I just read a rare Miyazaki interview with Newsweek that came out a couple weeks
back. He said that he was deeply influenced by the U.S. War on Iraq while he was
making the film... obviously he was very anti-war, which just puts all the plot
changes to the original book (according to my friend) into context, and now I'm
starting to consider it more seriously as an anti-war film than a simple happy
children's story.
Miyazaki's an interesting director though, he often espouses environmental
themes in other works like Spirited Away with the river god, and also obviously
with Nausicaa... very political in subtle ways. ^.^
Other highlights of the interview included a description of him as dressing in
dark colors (grays and blacks I think) and being a chain smoker. Also, the
director of Ghost in the Shell accused him of harboring secret thoughts to
destroy Japan, but Miyazaki laughed and said that they knew each other well and
they like to diss each other, although occasionally he does make comments like
"when's the next big earthquake going to hit Japan." Lol.
Just wanted to share with you guys ^.~ I found it really interesting and...
cheers to Newsweek. I've always liked it better than Time but now it's approval
rating in my mind has increased by a couple of points.

Strange. But I guess it does add some depth into things. Miyazaki's a really eccentric guy.
I really don't like wars though, so mcuh innocent people killed for nothing.
thank's for sharing, you're right with newsweek, I'm a fan of Miyazaki's works very eccentric but I like such a stuff....
