Can anyone recommend any good dark anime besides Serial Experiments Lain and
Hellsing? I'm looking for another good series to get into but don't have any
real good ideas. If you have any ideas about any good anime besides the obvious
main ones (Eva, Cowboy Bebop, Nadesico).
Dark would be one with endings that aren't always happy and have a dark bent ot
them. Like in Hellsing where the hero is a vampire or in Lain where the evil is
hidden and eventually take control of the main character.
That depends...does it have to be bloody? If so, i'd recommend Blue Gender. Otherwise, how about Key the Metal Idol, or Figure 17 or- not quite "black-dark"
but definately not happy endings.
If you don't mind a stand-alone dvd, try Alien
Nine the time-investment is minor, and boy, is it unique!
Thanks Blondie4Ever. I doesn't have to be bloody just not on the beaten path.
I've had too much mecha, magic, and cute anime. Just looking for some
"different" anime.

I dunno, Blue Gender does involve mecha... Well, there are the latest
ultraviolence pop-faves: Gantz &
Elfen Lied...
Or...
For an interesting mystery/thriller/horror title you could try: Paranoia Agent.
For an "inkblot test" anime (you can into it as deeply as you'd like
or just take it's surface humor) there's always FLCL.
Witch Hunter Robin [good animation, nice atmosphere [goth] but it's abit
boring], Gilgamesh [little jerky animation, nice gothic atmosphere and a good
story with earth destructive forces]. Elfen lied is one of the top series in the
genre but don't let the "kawai" girls fool you.
Elfen Lied is really cool and GANTz totaly rocks but you could try Basilisk or
Trinity Blood. Gunslinger Girl and Saikano are must-seen. But personally I
always recommend Vampire Hunter D: Bloodust
Elfen Lied rocks. But I'm not really sure about your concept of...dark anime. How
dark?
I think Petshop of Horrors is my type of a dark anime - horror series.
Plus, there are many types of "dark" anime out there - don't really
know which you want. How about a cup of coffee, everyone?

hm......i guess "Blame!" is pretty dark too.i don't think that one has
been mentioned yet.
it's also kind of weird and confusing if you're doing something else while
watching
(i learned that the hard way )

I still dont understand the concept of "dark" anime...

I loved flcl. Is Gantz any good? I have thought of getting Elfen Lied but don't know if its any good.

Elfen Lied (Okay not that much dark, but more of a gorey feeling)was dark at times and so was Neon Genesis Evangelion.
evangelion....i think...

I like Gantz. well i prefer the manga gantz rather than the anime.
Does Bastard!! consider to be a "dark" anime?
you can try full metal alchemist or black cat <-- really good
as mentioned above Elfin Lied , Trinity Blood and Basilisk are good series if your after "dark" anime
another series that i found interesting was Wolfs Rain and Gungrave
FMA, Wolf's Rain that's about all I can think of at the moment
Oh yes gungrave to the bone. You must see it. Well not so dark but cool like hellsing. Brandon rocks. Watch for the overdose ova.
Evangelion. Ayashi no Ceres.
Alien 9 has a wierd ending.
Im sure Elfen Lied has already been mentioned, also check out berserk...if u dun want a happy ending that Berserk will be great for u.

I'd have to say X-TV was a "dark" anime, and a very good one, at that.
Elfen Lied, Gantz, Witch Hunter Robin, Blood the Last Vampire, Basilisk, Wolf's Rain, Gungrave, X TV and/or Movie.
Sorta Dark: Chrno Crusade, Spiral, Gunslinger Girls, Argento Soma
If you like dementia: Boogie Pop, Tehxnolyze, Paranoia Agent
Hellsing and Chrno Cursade surely. Dark and awesome.
