MAN!! it's taking me toooooo long to figure out how to block websites!! Does anybody here know how to block websites permanently so you can't access into them at all????

Well don't rely on IE's security features if that's what your using. It will only "resrict" websites. Which really only refers to strings of data sent to your computer. You need to download some sort of program such as Cybersitter if you want to permently block websites.

Well I use Mcafee's Privacy to block sites.

well, if you really want to block anything
just modify the host file like this

put in the website URL then a space, then "127.0.0.1 local host"
to search for "host" file, just do a manual search, it is usually found in c:\windows\sytem32\drivers, etc,

what this will do is anytime it tries to access this site address, it will look as if you are trying to access your local machine, which is unavailable (127.0.0.1) is the designation

for example, some viruses will modfiy your host file this way, so you would not be able to access certain antivirus website such as symantec or mcafee
but you could use this feature to your advantage to block certain websites from loading on your computer
there are programs to assist you on this, however i feel the simplest way is do it manually yourself
hope this helps

If you're using Opera, you can do it far more convenitently with filter.ini.

which is true, but if you want to block it regardless what applications tries to access it, whether it be your web browser, email client or ftp, the easiest way is to edit the HOST file

Ummm...how exactly am i suppose to do all that? Think some one can show me the steps?

thanx for replying back

Start>Run>Search
HOSTS
locate the file, there are usually two of them, open them up with notepad, you should see the line 127.0.0 1 local host
what you want to do is put in 127.0.0.1 www.yahoo.com, for example, if you want to prevent access to Yahoo right under the initial local host line, then save it

i use zone alarms privacy for that

i highy recommend ZA

it contains

firewall
antivirus
anti spyware

and so much more but it costs 69us$
