There are around 170 animated episodes (including OVA's), plus 3
movies.

i catch Doraemon from time to time on TV, but i was unaware it started in 79.
The reason Dragonball Z was so long was that it took forever for anything to
happen. Like those tow consecutive episodes that consisted mostle of 'powering
up'.

gonna end up with trying to get a hold of all the episodes (which im sure would
be way too expensive )

after reading all the previous posts and from my own knowledge i believe the
longest anime series would be:
1st place is doremon. couldn't find out exactly how many eps it was but it's
been running for like 20 years so it has to be highest.
2nd place is dragon ball with about 500 eps (DB 153 + DBZ 291 + DBGT 65)
3rd place detective connan with 400+ eps could be 2nd place soon
4th place Gundam, not including ova and movies only tv series has about 300+
eps
5th place pokemon with 270+ eps
6th place one piece with 250+ eps
7th place sailor moon with about 200 eps
don't know of any more anime that have broke 200 eps. but here are some that are
close:
Prince of Tennis with 178 eps
Inuyasha has 167
Ranma 1/2 has 161
Naruto 150+ eps
Fist of the North Star has 109 eps from what i can see not in 170s
Macross if you add up all the tv series and robotech it adds up to about 160
eps
So far i have seen about part or all of most of the series i have listed and
there are only a few really good animes here, because it's so long theres alot
of side story or 1 ep story line shows here. I think the ones that have done the
best is keeping the show entertaining are one peice, naruto, and prince of
tennis. Gundams were good but they were different stories. dragon ball and
inuyasha have thier good moments although thers alot of filler in between,
naruto is starting to get that too. and i think every asian person has seen
doreamon at one point or another even if you don't think you have. Does blue cat
with special items ring a bell?

It's definitely all the DB series let alone it's 20 years old. From memory it's about 300+ eps.
The people that listed Doremon and Sazae-san would be correct. They both have well over 1000 episodes to date.
Ranma 1/2 is not as long as Rumiko's other series Urusei Yatsura which has 190 episodes, 218 if you count them by titles, 6 movies and 11 OVAs.
So every one except those that listed Doremon and Sazae-san are wrong.

I would say that Pokemon is the longest. I mean there are still new episodes being released in Japan.
i still tink its the db trilogy... more tahn 300 episodes and 13 ova/movies arent easy numbers to reach...
