So I was just thinking about it and wanted to ask that how many of you guys use
Unix OS..
If you do , what Unix...like Fedora core etc... I myself use Spectra 1.2.
So if you use:what and why.
Debian Sarge here. I don't quite see how staying on the bleeding edge all the
time is worth the effort, it does everything I want it to, so I'm happy to wait
a few years until I try out everything new that comes along during those few
years.
Im on mandrake 10.1 and ive stalled on this ver as i dont have time to always
update. its for ppl that want less thinking and more surf/music/video watching.
great for new ppl.
ps anyone know how to install kde3.4 on this ver?.
Nice to see that even some use Linux...
It's now days getting more and more common especially among servers.
remember computers are like air condioners- when you open windows they stop
workintg
Gentoo ("Jackass" install built with NPTL support and gcc3.44) and
Slackware Current. Also had a play around with Debian, Fedora Core 1,2,3 and
LFS. First ever distro was Mandrake 9.2.
I use mepis. I'm in the process of learning Linux, so I'm a dual user: mepis
and xp.
i chose mepis because it was recommended by a distribution-chooser site (you
take a quiz and it tells you several recommendations for you); and it was one of
the distros that allowed you to try it from a liveCD. I was suitably impressed,
so...here I am. Even though it's giving me hell trying to get it on my wireless
network. ;-S
I'm currently using Debian Sid on an Athlon 3200 with 1gig RAM. Running Gnome
and rg
composite effects (looking bloody sweet). Have been using Ubuntu in the past.
First version of Linux I had was SuSE7.2 PRO. It was good fun dabbling with that
on an old p166.
btw, thanks Archer79> i'm definitely joining the MT LUG!
all depend on the mood of my PC :P gentoo, knoppix, fedora core, mandrake... I
try to know a little by little all of the possible distro so I'll be able to
choose one that comply to my needs (so far, gentoo - but a pain to install )
At the moment ive been sticking with Mandriva Linux (formerly Mandrake). To me
it has the best options, comes with a lot of add-ons and is easy to use.
Basically why i love it is cause the less commadlines i have to type in, the
faster i can get work done. That and Wine runs excellent on it.
well, I had no problems with knoppix, debian was hard to install whatsoever, but
I heard it is really stable and good to use, once you got it installed
I often switch my distro as i'm curious about the changes between the new and
the old versions of them. I currently use SuSE 10.0. IMHO it's the best version
I've used so far and quite fast too (even through it's SuSE. )

Using Kubuntu 5 and Debian Sarge.

I use Debian Sarge on my server. However, if I had the time and motivation, I would probably use Gentoo.
I use Fedora Core for my project, but normally I just use Windows.

Check out the MT LUG http://groups.minitokyo.net/mt-linux-users-group/
Well, not quite Linux as Unix, but out of my houes we run a FreeBSD box for a webserver.

lol. if u wan't to get at windows tell me what u thinks of this if u haven't seen it already: is windows a virus?
Windows isn't a virus... it's a bug.

knoppix, damnsmall linux are pretty cool. i think my brother put damn small linux on his ipod
I used already knoppix, Suse, RedHat and , but I stay on Windows because I'm a gamer and Linux does not support much of them (sadly)
knoppix is abit hard to use... but very usefull in programing
well, I had no problems with knoppix, debian was hard to install whatsoever, but I heard it is really stable and good to use, once you got it installed
i use unix/linux often @home and @ work
@home: SuSE/Novell Linux, FreeBSD, Debian
@work: SuSE/Novell Linux, FreeBSD, Debian, a little OpenBSD,

Since I have to get use of UNIX system in my current studies, I'm using different versions of Linux. Im currently using Suse 10.0 and Mandrake10.0
