I really am corious to know why some of you ( those that will answer) chose
anime and manga inspired art as mean of expressing. Or maybe it ain't that deep,
maybe you're just tallented and this kind of art suits you? Or maybe it just
started as a fan thing? Me..........I was declared to be lacking any tallent ant
drawing up until I decided to join my best friend at the time at an artschool
just so we could spend more time together. Then I started to love anime and
somehow my hand worked on it's own accord......... I really want to know what
drives you to be on this site and submit.
Ah tough question. Well I love drawing for fun, and the only reason I submit my
work is to get constructive criticism on how to improve. This site is so
awesome. There are many talented artists here and I feel like I can learn a lot
from you guys! Including you Irina! You are amazing in your ability! As for why
I started drawing anime, well ever since I was little I liked drawing girls and
clothing. Then I started watching Sailor Moon and that inspired me to draw
anime-style. I used to draw from my imagination but after starting to watch
anime and to play video games (rpgs) I started doing fanart. Now I feel like I
am fake. *sigh* I just wish I had more time to draw and get better. Anyway, I am
rambling here.
Good question!
Mmm, sometimes I draw 'cause my friends ask me to do it and some times, when I
see a very detailed picture(most of the times a
beautiful girl, he he) I just can't resist to draw it. I chose manga
style 'cause, in my opinion, the characters look better, more stylized and you
can play a little with proportions.
Hmm.. well this is hard to answer!! I love art in any form from music to
drawing, anything that a person can be passionate about is awesome, and
everyone has something they absolutely love to do.. for me its drawing manga. I
started because like Silvandragon17, my cousin got me to watch Sailor Moon on
tv once.. I loved it, the characters were so pretty! And then I saw an SM book
at a bookstore, my first manga was Sailor Moon vol. 3. I had no idea what I was
reading about but I loved the beautiful art and the story... i guess it all
started there. ( I collected the whole SM collection over the years, I was and
still am a moonie, since i credit my love of mang to Naoko...) So I created a
character that I could develop and call my own. (Candy) I love experimenting
with the clothes hair and everything, but my abilities are'nt limited to manga,
I'm currently taking art classes in high school and am loving every minute of
it!! wow.. i wrote a lot did'nt i...? sorry for blabbing your ear off
but.. you asked! lol!
My weapon..er...I mean tool of trade is photshop. Since I cannot make realistic
backgrounds in photoshop, then a realistic charater in front of an unrealistic
background would look weird. On the other hand, anime characters don't look
weird at all so it would fit right in ^^
I think it started out for me as a fan just wanting to doodle some of my
favorite characters. I remember teaching myself how to draw when I was little.
It statred out with horses. I drew hundreds of horses by the time I was ten.
Then it proceeded to scifi/fantasy drawings, mostly dragons and other mythical
creatures. I believe anime appealed to my simple, yet expressive style of art.
well, i try to draw anime/manga simply because i love it , recently ive been
working on a manga with a friend of mine so ive been drawing lots and lots :P
(good thing my drawings go to coursework for gcse)
Well eyes are very expressive and look at what anime/manga focuses on. It's
kinda surreal so you can portray people in a much more expressive way that would
look stupid on a real person. Plus I just love the artistic style.
I both love art and anime. I've been drawing since I was still a toddler;
meaning, even when I was a kid I loved art. Art is my passion, music too. Art
led me to love anime because of the graphics. A few years later, I got
interested into computer graphics and to singing. My art is mainly concentrated
in making anime graphics. I love it because it puts stress away from my list of
burdens and problems.
The only I could to say, is that anime reflec emotions and feelings, they have
(the good ones), something that make you feel part of that world you're seeing
well ... that's rather simple ... when i started drawing i began copying
characters from the manga i had until i understood a little bit how it works.
and that's the good thing about manga, if you are a biginner it's easier to
imagine the picture because it's not in such a detail but just outlines and big
eyes (if you want to put it like that). but that doesnt mean that it's easy to draw manga-ish. it's very
easy to notice who is a beginner and who is a pro because when you look at
beginner-manga-drawings they look like manga but it lacks proportion and
movement because people get used to draw the pictures they've drawn already
because they only know how to draw a certain character in a certain position. as
you get better you normaly start trying to make your drawings more realistic
until you understand how to actually draw realistic, because the form of the
characters you draw has to be quite different.
so after a time you know how to draw manga-ish a little bit and you've learned
how to draw realistic and now you start to draw manga-ish again and there will
be a tremendous improvement and that's the awsome thing about manga or any kind
of comic style. you can start drawing with this style because you get a feeling
for drawing in general and when you are a pro you can come back to this style so
you can simplify your realistic drawings so in the end it looks even better when
you draw manga-ish then before.
i hope the point i've wanted to make is clear because that's a very important
fact, i think. i dont believe that a person can draw only manga-ish and improve
because you don't have the feeling for realistic proportion. the best example
for me is akira toriama. everyone knows his style he uses for dragon ball or dr.
slump but that doesnt mean that he's not able to draw a realistic picture and he
even proves it by drawing every now and then a realistic looking picture of his
characters. a person who has drawn only manga cannot do that.
to sum it up: start simple, improve to hard and simplify ... that's why i
started drawing manga.
I think manga has a infinite way of expressing your feelings and the fact is
it's more easier to draw manga than make a serious realistic drawing, you can
extend and polish your style in many ways.i'm atracted to manga because it's a
part of japanese tradition,it's verry sentimentalistic, full of spirit,it brings
on paper the golden sunset of that land.dunno, makes me dream...m-as fi exprimat
This is a very nice question Ir-chan^_^ Manga is just an easy form of the real
human I gues. And when you see anime form when you're little (wich was with me)
You get addicted to it and want to draw your heroes in the same style
(sailormoon was that^_~) I just forgot about other drawing styles and got really
caried away with the Manga styl 0_o Until I got addicted to something with REAL
people wich made me see that manga was just an easy drawing style. Drawing real
humans is so much harder.
I've always been into drawing, but before i started watching anime and reading
manga i kinda lacked imagination when i was trying to draw outside art class in
school. And when i started watching anime i loved the way they drew the
characters and that made me want to make something like that myself. And now
it's one of my dreams to become a manga-ka. I'm not good enough yet but i'm
wokring on it
I enjoy drawing manga/ anime style pictures.
Proportions can be played with. Hair can be crazy.
Also, it is easier to do than realistic drawing.
I reallt don't like drawing realistic.
I can do it, but it takes me a longer time to do compared to a manga drawing.
Although, drawing manga style is not always as esay as it seems.

great question! Now that i think about it.. i also started drawing in
manga/anime style after watching Sailor Moon (my first fav anime.. and the one
with the best art i had seen by then).. Anyway, i love drawing since i can
remember.. (i duddle in all my notebooks, etc), but after beginning to copy
Sailor Moon, the next thing i knew, all my duddles became manga/anime like..
it's like my hand has a life of it's own! When i'm in a boring class.. i always
start drawing doujinshi (u know.. just girls and boys that come to my mind) I do
draw portraits of people once in a while.. but for me, to draw in anime style is
almost automatic! And it's all because of Sailor Moon!
I'm a writer...and well Anime and Japan they are just freer and it is easy to
gain inspiration from. You don't have to be afraid of offending someone because
there is probably something more shocking then your little fan fiction or fan
art out there. I just love it and the freedom it gives me.
