Hey how are you guys doing. me and my friends are always watching and talking about AMVs and then we get into fights about which one is better. so I ask the question what makes a good AMV? well to me I really enjoy videos that have my fav song and lots of action. I mean that videos that goes with the song and hit every beat I love those kind of videos. I also like the AMV that use many different animes. but my friend hates those kinds of videos that have lots of anime he says that their not good and too random. so what do you guys think makes a good AMV.

r q g

For me a good AMV is the one who got a really good song, like rock music in my case and is about of a only kind of anime. Like example the AMV of Chrono Trigger with the song Scum of the Earth of Rob Zombie.

I never like the AMVs with too many different series

r q g

One of my favorites is tainted doughnuts. It combines good music with a cross of two different music...

But a good AMV needs to have right music for the scene, such as rock for battles if possible use character appearence of talking, such.

1) Music
2) Beat/lip/lyrics synchronization
3) Editing, effects

Usually I don't like the amv if there is little connection between the visuals and the audio. Of course, most of the time the use of footage from only a single anime is a plus, but there are some amazing AMV's that make use of diff. footage(i.e. AbsoluteDestiny - I Wish I Was A Lesbian). In my opinion pulling off smth good while using loads of various footage from different anime is harder<_<

Music
Efects
Synchronization betwen theme, music and the anime

When it's well done it's hard to find someone that doesnt like it, I know one with Asuka from Evangelion with a music of Hamstein that even ppl who doesnt like this band loved it.

Agreed. Tainted doughnuts, the song was in japanese, you had no clue what they were saying, but the voice in the song matched perfecty with the characters talking, and the beat of the scene...It was simply beautiful...

there is one thing I cant stand where people got and get random chunks of clips, spal them together in Windows Movie Maker and call it an amv. Its all about timing to the music and the overall feel you wanna express with it.

And I agree with Tainted Doughnuts that has to be the best cross over amv I have seen specially since they got it to fit together so well even with the lighting. One of my fav amv creators is VicBond007. I got addicted to his work after he made Excel Saga look like one of the most tragic anime ever created

A good AMV is really the culmination of many elements into one homogeneous product. Everything has to has to be compatible and well matched or it will just become a bunch of random clips set to music.

The best AMVs tell a story with the song and the clips. The music and lyrics need to go with the anime(s) used. I generally prefer AMVs that use fewer animes, but action/comedy videos often make good use of many series. If the song & story told by the AMV extend or relate to the story of the anime, it can really increase the impact of the video.

Technical aspects such as timing, beat matching, lip syncing, and transition effects need to be used properly. A good effect matched and synced to the audio can really make a difference. While not necessary, a large number of timed elements can really drive in the beet / rythm of the music.

Ultimately the video has to be enjoyable. Every aspect of an amazing video seems to have purpose; every transition, clip, lyric, effect, etc.

Some outstanding videos:
One Piece - Captian Hampton
[Suberunker Studeosh] - Football
[Suberunker Studeos] - The Wizard Of Ozaka
[Suberunker Studeos] - Still Preoccupied With 1985
[Indifferent Productions] - The Chibi Things (That Kill)
[Indifferent Productions] - Stop The Rock
RahXephon - Euphoria [Koop]
Evangelion - Engel
Evangelion - Soul of an Angel [ErMaC]

First of all an AMV should NEVER be made from an anime that had subtitles. I have made a few myself and i believe that one anime should be used and that you shouldn't use a variety of series in the same clip unless it's just different seasons of the same series. You need to be very talented and know what your doing to successfully make a good cross AMV.
Of course song is important but any song will do if you have the right plan for it. I think it's good to try to pick a song where the words can be heard and try to match the clip to the lyrics...It's more fun that way.

I think the main thing that makes an AMV good would have to be the sinc between the music and the anime. If it didn't have that you would basicly just be watching some video clips while listening to you favorite music. The other stuff like the choice of music and effects are still importants though too. When it came to effects and editing i would have to say the two best videos i've seen would have to be Euphoria(RahXephon), and Whispers of the Beast(Naruto). Weather an AMV is good or not also depends on the person. One could think a video was the best there ever could be while the next person thinks its the worst.

cool cool cool I love all of the comments thank you but also when it comes to the music do you think that only rock music is good for making AMV?

Nope, many types of music can be used effectively. It becomes tricky if there are long quiet periods in a song, and may require editing. Slower music is tough to use effectively compared to music with a good beat and some bite to it. I find that I enjoy AMVs with songs that have lots of variation in the music, whether it be beat, tempo, lyrics, rhythm, etc. Rock, DDR / dance, alternative, and techno tend to work well.

But there's no real limits, it's all up to the creativity of the person making the video.

Good Quality Picture
Good Sync
Good Matching Music
Good Effects
Good Transition
Good Sound Quality
No Subtitles Where they aren't needed

r q g

i prefer a well matched amv and a single anime or 2 anime that blend precisely

r q g

the perfect combination of MUSIC, LYRICS and VIDEO

r q g

i like AMV that combine music and video only from the game or the anime, a song or a theme with action for a battle, fro example.

I´m sorry, but i don´t really like AMV with songs that doesn´t have anything to do with the game or the anime.

r q g

A good song, music-video sync (!), smart use of effects (nothing worse then overusing them or making xx sparkling-leet-shit). And ofcourse good quality of the video, without subs and not pixelated...

:o I agree with dobri and its not only that. WHen people make AMVs with different anime shows in one I can't focus on the mood of the song and go with the flow. I mean it works for parodies, I guess but when I'm listening to a love song and watching a vid about Inyasha and Kagome I don't suddenly want to see Sailormoon and her dude. They're different and only relate to the idea that they are couples ~_~ so in this vid, no thank you, haha.

r q g

1: The song has to fit...i mean really fit the story or character in the video
2: The timing. It has to flow...can't be choppy or it loses major points
3: Not be done to the same song as 50 milion others

(yes that does mean that too many music videos have been made to linkin park. I like them, but enough is enough.)

r q g

Wich one is better?
Nightwish - 10Th Man Down + 08th Mobile Suit Team = roks! :D
and
Rammstein - Engel + Neon Genesis Evangelion = awesome (don't know how many hours of work are in there but it must be at least 30!)
and a third:
Michael Jackson - Thriller (?) + Trigun vs. Cowboy Bebop

r q g

for a good AMV the music has to fit the anime
rock music with ah my godess uh uh
synconization of the music and animation is also important
and personally i would preffer an AMV about 1 or 2 series
any more and it makes it a little too confusing

r q g

ok so all of your seem to like AMV that have sync and flow with the song. Oh then there are two videos that you guys have to see one is called
Naruto's Technique beat by decoy ops and majin kenshin-toushi by zero tolerance. both of those are really cool Naruto videos.

r q g

Mmmm toushi, the best one I've seen so far. I think that a good AMV are one that makes the veiwer feel some emotion; excitement and sadness are the most common and easiest, in my opinion. If the video makes you feel something, it's good. Of course if this happens have to do with if you have seen the serie or not.

r q g

Well... AMV... for me it means a good combi of music and video. The music must be able to bring out the feel of what the video is presenting, and what i'm seeing must make sense with what i'm hearing too. Of course, if it's a song that's in some language i do not understand, then the tempo must be good too.
