I prefer firefox since it gives me much more control over how the browse works than IE does. I can specify exactly what javascript is allowed to do, how cookies are controlled, etc. Extensions are really where the true power of firefox's customization lies. There are hundreds of extensions that add all kinds of features to the browser. One of my favorites is AdBlock, which will filter ads right out of pages; including javascript, banners, flash, etc. Speaking of ads, browsers with built-in popup blockers work insanely better than addons for IE. Normal IE blockers usually block about 70% of the pop-ups while also blocking many wanted windows. With firefox and AdBlock it blocks 99.9% of pop-up ads and almost never blocks requested windows.

Some extensions: https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/

If you're looing at browsers, check out Opera as well. It's really fast, but not as customizable as Firefox.

thanks for the info i been reading up on fire fox and im going to give it a try as like you said i get lots of probs with ie.

I use Firefox, I just had so many damn problems with IE it wasnt funny. Now I dont get those problems. Firefox has made my browesing much better, and you dont have to worry so much with Firefox as I did with IE.

In addition to Firefox, the Avant browser is also a good alternative to IE. It is a tabbed browser much like Firefox. You can customize the skins, it has a built in pop-up blocker, and it doesn't seem to eat as much of your memory as IE does. One of my favorite features is how it can save the address of any open web pages when you close the browser. Next time you start the browser, it will prompt you and ask if you want to re-open those pages again. Its great for pages that you don't want to put into favorites but can't look at right now or just haven't finished looking at. Here is a link to the avant browser homepage:

Opera has also rid itself of all banners and is now free of charge,

I value firefox of ie, I prefer keeping the number of open windows to a minimum, the gekko engine is marvelous and the extensions godlike. The only things I see to prefer with ie is that it initially loads faster and various plugins, such as java, tend to run better.

Firefox is better, cux in IE somethings couldn't be used.

Firefox.

Firefox is the best, too much complications with IE. Stopped using it long ago.
Opera is decent as well.

Firefox and Opera are both very good browsers, I've been using firefox for longer so I tend to use that more often, although I do believe Opera is much more stabler besides some rendering issues (I think it's more to do with the pages coding more then anything).

IE does have its uses, such as for many 'form' websites that do not render properly on other browsers (because, they have been designed with only IE in mind :P ). From what i hear (and this is very much speculation) IE7 will be much much improved over IE6.

Fire is the best for me

I've been using Firefox for a while now. Adblock helps keep the pages clean of ads and it's easy to browse with. Just recently, I clicked something in IE and caused my friend's computer to be infected with viruses and spyware..which were soon fixed. I believe that using Firefox would help prevent much spyware and unwanted pop-ups.

As Alchemy101 said, IE does have it's own advantages..but I still prefer Firefox, mostly because you only need to open one window. Hence I've been using it ever since I first started using it.

r q g

firefox is better than IE6, IE7 is necessary to see when it will leave.

r q g

Firefox, extensions are the most useful thing ever in a browser.

r q g

Firefox is customizable (extenstions and themes), pop-up blocker, faster browsing for me, and is not Microsoft.
I.E. is just...plain.

r q g

The Cool thing about Firefox, in my opinion, is the tabs within the window itsetlf.

r q g

Firefox is better due to the tabs. It's so much easier to use that way. I'm am however looking forward to the new IE coming out with Windows Vista.

I think you should use firefox because is better than ie 6.0
in firefox there's so many extension and themes that could help you browse more safe than using ie 6.0.. the disadvantages using ie 6.0 or lower are so many bugs,
you have to download the accumulative security update for i.e from microsoft,
no themes, no extension and you need sp2 for better security...

anyway if ie 7.0 has been released you would better make a comparasion
within firefox and ie 7.0 and decide wichone is better and safer.. ^^

Avant is only a IE shell so it will still have all the bugs and vulnerablilities of IE

I prefer Firefox. Not because it is safer, which can be arguable(mostly because of the false sense of invulnerability most people have with it) but because it is the most flexible browser I have ever seen. It comes clean with nothing to clutter it up then you can add almost anything you could desire on it. If it doesnt exist, you can make it.

For me, the biggest factor that inspired me to start using a browser other than Internet Explorer was the constant bugs and security fixes that were plaguing the latter, not to mention the tons of plug-ins that took over your browser. Changing your homepage to some paid advertiser, or adding a toolbar that does the worst job possible when searching.

The majority of these spyware and vulnerabilities are commonly programmed for Internet Explorer being that IE holds over 70% of the internet browser market. There are other browsers out there that can compete with IE, but Mozilla Firefox is a complete browser filled with tons of features that’s only light in size. From a built in pop-up blocker that works better than many commercial pop-up blockers, to tabbed browsing, these are just two of the factors that contribute to making Firefox an internet browser’s dream.

Download managers allow you to manipulate and take control of your downloaded files. Mozilla Firefox’s download manager contains just the essentials to allow you to control your downloads. You can pause your download and continue it a later time, something which is not possible with IE’s download manager.

Mozilla Firefox is able to keep the html format when copying from a webpage to a text file. For example, when copying html formatted text from a webpage and pasting it on a note pad, the text copied using Mozilla Firefox keeps the format yet the text copied from IE doesn’t.

When right clicking on a page, selecting “page info” will pull up a window displaying vast amount of information for the webpage. General information as well as a Link tab showing all the links that the page contains.

well it looks like everybody said pretty much everthing. but heres my thoughts; why pick firefox?

1:themes let you change how firefox looks (try doing that with IE or any windows program for that matter)

2: extensions hundreds of them exist and vary in purpose three of my favs are: adblock with this you can block alot of things on a web page even some annoying ads, forecastfox: display weather conditions in the status bar (pretty handy) and sessionsaver with this you can close the browser and reopen it just the way u left it (good for when things crash)

3: tabbed browsing dont have to have 10 windows open when you only need one

4: safety in a week i had over 100 spyware junk on my computer with IE. using firefox...next to none

5: some people might not use it but you can have multiple homepages with the tabbed browsing feature

6: if IE is hacked your whole system is pretty much the same since IE is built into windows. wont happen with firefox if its hacked its only firefox the rest of your system doesn't go with it.

7: extensions were mentioned b4 but with the IE view extension you can open any pages that are "IE only" or just work better in IE with a few clicks and you can set it to always open in IE so that take care of alot of worrys

8: quick to install les than a 5.0mb file i've seen bigger IE patches

9:best of its all FREE! though it wouldn't hurt to donate to them ;)

if i missed something let me know please

Why are we even debating this? This is a no brainer, IE all the way........*burst out laughing* Gotcha! Firefox owns. Safer, has themes, extensions, upgradable, and more felxable.

r q g

most prefer firefox but i use internet explorer. the only problems i really have about is the pop ups but then again i also have my program to stop them but sometimes the stupid programs doesn't do it so i usually have to live with it.
