only thing is that i dont recommend using a screenshot or another scan for the
bg.
maybe stick with some brushwork or some grunge effect and you can make it
better
It's not too bad, but I would lose the outer glow.
Yellow and purple are also opposite each other on the colour spectrum so I would
avoid using those two colours together. I would suggest more oranges perhaps and
yellows- as long as they are not too saturated. If you get good at it you can
start to instrpduce some greens, then blues, then purple- but these should be
colours used less or more
subtlely at a lower transparency.
And yeah. The background face is distracting and the little... lightning effect
(?) is the effect is okay- but I think since you're going with the lightning, it
should either be a scenic (draw or vector a building behind) or- even better,
abstract. Abstract is a pretty good way of conveying power I'm not an
expert on abstract, but try to use filters well and not randomly It could
take some time just getting the right effect, but the end results should be good
Using larger images of the chara on low transparancy for the bg is a common
practice, but not very compositionally sound, so I have to agree that an
abstract bg is probably better. Looking at the lighning effects, it seems that
you're already halfway there.
Also, you may want to lose the lighter bar at the bottom: it cuts into the wall.

would be better without the lightning yellow thingy, put some different effects
and style^^ grunge sounds nice too
