I know this particular link has nothing doirectly related to what the thread name is but:
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/11/04/suicide.internet/index.html
After reading this, it almost seems as though theres gonna be a war waged over the net against some websites. Considering the tone of the article, i reckon that a batlle might start and then more and more people will join in and it'll just escallate to the point where its WWWW1 (World Wide Web War 1)[hehe, made that up myself ^^]

Didn't know suicide was illegal...

it better not be against MT.....

Heard of this before. Don't have any opinion here, but I would like to say that suicide is not the almighty solution. It is to the person who suicide, but it will create other problem for other people. Just my two cent thou

Suicide is illegal, even the attempt is. This is a requirement for taking care of potential suiciders(?) against their will.
Encouraging, on the other hand, is not.

this is stupid, inacceptable stupidity.
consider she got a scholarship, mean she is smart, going to sites like this and then being convinced to suicide by people. and still proud, what the f*ck is she thinking, all that money for her studies, all that love and this she repay back, this is not a matter of the sites that offer remedies of suicidal promotion, it is these people, they don;t think with that brain of theirs.

hell i hope she burns in hell for such a big sin.
i mean, look, a science scholarship, i betcha her two cents is damn huge if she would have used it, bloody hell sh didn't.

too bad, no point arguing now aint it, she left enough destruction before she left and after. i betcha the mods and admins might get investigations online. since MT can be considered as an international site.

that is plain dumb not stupid. stupid being that you didn't know but domb wheeeee is a much better synonym for me :D suicide don't get you anything because you're dead. being alive will determine you're worth not you're dead.

this is not that manner, it is like all that brain right, how could you get convinced by people on a site to suicide?
that is like massive stupidity!

I think this is more for the legal system to go after people that assist suicide, like Jack Kervorkian (aiding and abetting a felony). People who are determined or have already attempted to die need counseling and help; directly prosecuting them in a court of law would be a ridiculous waste of time.

As for whether these "suicide" websites would or could come under attack, I'd say it depends on the legal definition of "assisting;" i.e. physically mixing the cyanide, providing information/recipes, hosting the server these recipes are on, making monetary contributions to webspace, fixing the server/computer? Paying the electrical bill for whatever building the server is in? Programming the browser someone uses to look up this stuff? You have to draw the line at some point, so if this gets to the point of a legal battle, it'll be interesting to see where a civil or criminal court draws the line.
