Actually, I check out reviews, and do a background check on the authors previous
works. And then buy it. There is a animestore that I know which sells products
at discount prices.
usually beside the sudden impulse of rushing onto the net to look for torrents
(which is recently Mai Otome), i usually not care much unless it is super
something i wanna see...
I usually try not to get excited. Calm and collected saves money. Researching a
show at places like animeondvd.com are really helpful in giving me more
information about the show. Usually I buy what I like no matter what the review
says. I stopped basing what I think of as "great" shows that are a
must buy when listening to public opinon. I ended up with the full boxset of
Evangelion and hate it. (Sorry peeps who love it. ) So now I buy what I like, even if the reviews aren't exactly giving the
show fours stars.
I try to make myself wait for sales too. (That and save the money up to pay the
regular price!) That way I can usually afford more than if I'd rushed right out
and bought it. It's even better when you can make yourself wait for the final
boxsets - especially if it's ADV titles. Those thinpax are cheap (especially
when on sale)! Oh-da-la-li!

if I saw a commercial or a new anime manga the first thing I do is see guy are
hot (I am girl here), the storyline have to be interesting. It must be action,
violent, a little romance (not to much), and comdy. If fit those description, I
do a little research and downlaod. If is very good, buy it.
if the comercial looks super super cool then i would go out and try to see one
episode
of it. otherwise i would find out what it is about. ask my friends if they seen
it and
also try to find some review for it. if it is good according to my friends and
review then
i would buy the entire series

Yeah I background check stuff. If it is good enough I'll give it a volume or 2... and then decide whether I want to really get in to this anime/manga.
