Bittorrent! Someone told me Irc is dangerous (not sure how exactly) and it's
harder to use.
I only used it to download Rose of Versailles because there were no torrents for
that anime at the time - I think Bittorrent can be just as fast or faster if you
have a good connection, because you at least don't have to wait for the people
in front of you to finish downloading first, if the person seeding in Irc has
set a limit.
ifu ppl have reliable (i mean raelly reliable) IRC servers for anime, then tell
me. bit torrent is good enough for me. i jus leave my computer on all nite to
d/l the file. i usually get 20kb/s, which is fine with me. and like, uhhhh, the
person above me said, bit torrent is easy to use. just d/l the torrent file,
open it, choose the dir to save to, and done! itll just d/l. its safer than IRC
cauz bt is peer-to-peer. thats my opinion (sorry again, the person above.. i jus
cant read ur nickname :S)
No, it starts: "f i r n" and I explained its meaning in my user
profile (you'll see it if you click on my username) and also in the thread about
where our usernames come from. It's one of my elf names, I'm sure some of you
are sick of this story by now so go ahead and click my username, gregii. ^^
IRC anyday. I find that I can easily max out my connection (at about 900kb/sec)
on several CC bots. BT may be easier to use, but the speeds are nowhere near as good (the
max I've ever gotten is 120kb/sec. Of course it depends on the amount of
seeds/peers and their connections, but I have better experiences with IRC.
I'll have to try IRC. I've used BT a couple times for simple stuff. One time
the files flew by, the other took hours for simple small feed. Haven't used IRC
for anything other than chat (what a newb, I know) so I'll have to go to a
server and figure it out sometime.
I use both extremely activly - it all really depends on the group and who is
serving
BT
Good for new releases
Great for whole seasons or animes that are completed
Great for Set and forget
Bad for many things over 4 weeks old
Bad because it really depends on who's sharing
Bad for instant gratification
IRC
Good for individual older eps that are hard to find
Good for obscure anime
Good for instant gratification of new eps
Bad for whole season (you have to individual queue each file and constantly
monitor it)
Bad - you have to constantly queue up and maintain connection to continue
downloading
Bad for resuming - you usually have to requeue and start over again
For the record i have leeched 2 TB fansubs in 15 months and these things are
what i have figured out (i have upped over 800 gig in return via both irc server
and BT) I also do timing and Typesetting as well as edit scanlations. Its a
judgment call one way or the other every time - generally speaking i try to find
out about the group and look at what i am trying to get and then decide which
way is better. On a secondary note because you can go from irc and switch over
to BT midway sometimes if i am not sure I'll start on IRC and if that doesn't
work i'll switch to the BT (usually just by changing the filenames).
i used to go on irc a lot... chat with people n stuff while downloading... but
lately i've been uber busy with stuff, and no time to chat online as much... so
i use bittorrent now cause it's easier to queue up days of stuff in a few
minutes and just let it run. i can get ~700 kB/s with bt. ^o^
For anyone who really knows that IRC and bit torrent are both excellent
programs, one I prefer over the other (IRC is better by far), but I also enjoy
bit torrent due to simplicity (uhg and taking my bandwidth). Anyway- For those
who know that they're both nice, and shouldn't be put over eachother, because
they're completely different, check out this website.
It has -Both- Bit torrent and IRC searches, goes through X-DCC so it's simple
and fast, no fserve searches. No @find's, nothing. And on top of that, it's one
of the better Bit torrent searches out there.

Which do you perfer to use?
I choose Irc because even though you have to wait alot, you get good speed and you don't have to upload. ^_^
i prefer irc if anime are in xdcc because fserv it s low. i can speak during the download
they're both hassles, i think.
bt is mad slow. irc is alright, but sometimes you run into jerks.
i prefer direct download. ^^
I guess I prefer IRC, if only because it's a little bit faster than Bittorrent.
i prefer bittorrent coz i think its less of a hassle compared to irc. plus i dont know how to use irc
irc is so much better... bt is a pos when u have shit seeders
i choose bittorent eventhough sometimes it getting lag, or bad tracker, and another probs follow
I would have to choose bittorent over Irc. It a lot easier to start form what you let off.
Bittorent as main and irc as secondary

Lol uhhh it's ok.
I wish
I'd picked a different username but it's too late now.
is ur name f-i-m-t-h-o-r-o-n-w-e-n? if so, what does that mean?

Definitely mirc... 500 Kbps downloads own BT anyday.
Plus you can find archive bots for older anime, whereas only the newest stuff really have any decent numbers of seeds on BT.
I prefer Bittorrent, it's easier to use, I can max out my connection easily (a lowly 25k
), and IRC never quite caught on for me.

I like Bittorrent - because my firewall doesn't allow my to use IRC
