I'm thinking of visiting Japan at the end of sping - early summer. I found this
new website about traveling in Japan on a budget. It seems to be quite new, as
there are a bunch of features still in the making. It looks to be very useful,
and visitors can have their own inputs on reviews of hotels and restaurants
there. Check it out.
Are there any other websites on travelling in Japan (especially Tokyo - that's
where I'm headed) that you guys would recommend?

website. There is a bunch of info, but what it is really good for is providing
discounts to visitors. Get your hands on a discount rail pass if you
can!

Here is the URL of the hotel I stayed this summer. It was quite cheap. You had a
place to sleep and a TV. Bathrooms and showers were shared. Still it was quite
clean and the staff could speak good english.
I've been to Japan a few times. If this is your first trip then I recommend that
you visit during spring rather than summer. Summer in Japan is very humid.
Secondary consideration is that airfare is most expensive during summer.
If you can give a little more information on what you want to do in Tokyo then I
or someone else might be able to give you better suggestion based on your
itinierary.
Websites are great sources for info, but if you plan to really run around Japan,
I'd advise getting a travelers guidebook, the one I got was from the company

I recently went to Japan late September for 2 weeks, and I had the most amazing
adventure in my life, and this guide helped. I'm the type that likes to plan
ahead of time, but also a spur of the moment kind of guy. So many times I found
myself at a planned site, whip out the book and say hmm this looks fun and
detour myself there.
Also I'm a huge map guy too, and there really isn't any GOOD maps out there if
you want to explore all over, but the good news is that you can grab a map (many
times in English too ^^) and plan your adventure on the spot.
I'd love to answer other question you may have, I'm definitely no expert but I
am a Japan enthusiast ^_^
P.S. Japan was so fun that maybe I should go again next year and visit a Baka
Bat (MT friend of mine) I did have a dream of helping her move in maybe it'll
come true ... *side note - hmm wonder if she'll find me here, better not be
today you should be studying all day Baka )

and, I'm not even in Japan yet o_O, it's not even a sure thing
but, if i ever go, i'll remember about those websites links for sure, so thanks
to everyone who put up one ^^ sorry, i don't have any to share, coz' i didn't
start looking for those yet i do have a guidebook, but it's in French, so I don't think it can help many
people here
i wonder what places to check out, or things to try? very broad question i know.
hopefully over winter break, i'll look more into this. so far it's just an idea
of going to tokyo, i haven't really planned much yet. thinking of visiting some
family during that time as well.

Within Tokyo there are plenty of things to do and see. Check out Harajuku on
sundays, Akihabara for technology and anime/game goodness, Asakusa for a popular
temple, Ueno for some lovely museums, Shibuya for shopping, Shinjuku for dining.
Yeah, there are a lot of things to do! What are you interested in seeing? I
highly recommend taking the river cruise from Asakusa. They have some tours that
stop at a beautiful garden, and some that go down to Odaiba (a popular date
area). The river boat gives you a FANTASTIC view of Tokyo.

I also recommend talking to people that live in Japan *coughhinthintcough* or that have been there and see where their favorite places are.

I agree! Summers in Japan suck. I live in the mountains and it is still humid. Do yourself a favor and come in the spring or the fall.
