Anime collector alike, when you buy anime do you buy it to replace broken or stolen DVD's, becuase it comes with a gift or goodie, or just becuase it was shiny. Please respond i need to know if im the only one that buys a DVD just becuase it is shiny lol JK ^_^.

well most anime its pre thought out, well bar the first 5 volumes of Yu Yu Hakusho, that was purely due to 50% off due to a sale ^_^;;

i bought Ah My Goddess the movie just because it had a pretty cover. Some ones I bought just cause they were cheap, some I bought just because I heard they were good. It all depends on the situation. Mostly I buy them now cause I love the series but I wait until the boxsets come out because it costs too much buying them individually. I usually buy the anime if the cover is appealing to my taste as in the art, colors, and storyline.
Then I will judge the price, if it is worth buying or not. I usually buy anime that are below $15 US.
Then if I have to chose between just a DVD and a Collector's Edition/Box I will decide if the Collector's have extras that I like, if not I'm not going to waste the extra money for the Collector's edition, I'll go for the DVD itself.

Hey, I'm a poor girl...

usually what i do is this
i dl the fansub, and watch it whole, maybe a few episodes to determine the quality.
Then i look at the price and the overall reviews by magazines, they usually contain things like contact detail, release dates, pre-order discounts and so on. There, I will decide. I will also look at the overall value, i will never buy single pieces that contain 3 episodes because they are not worth it. So what i will do instead is to buy the complete ones (i usually make a list of all wanted item and check) once done, the list is cleared one by one which one is puchase worthy. And depending on my funds, i will buy them even if they do not meet the criteria for beautiful boxsets and extras.

Well thank you all for your comments i hope to hear more from you ^_^ I feel that if the art looks good and i well admit to Dl'n some anime to preview weather i want to unload a few hundred on some series then yah lol. for the most part ill watch some with my friends then ill go and buy a copy of it and then end up never having time to watch the awsome series agian lol

Price, shiny, collectability and other reasons are really only forshadows for many other evils like fan service and educational value plus moral stuff lol

I'm not all that rich myself (I only get $100 a month to spend a month after bills, and that's my money to live off), but I manage to save up enough. That's all from 1 year though, it makes me proud.

I also have almost 200gb of anime on my HDD too, stuff that isn't licensed in Aus yet. Basiclly, if I like it, I'll give the company who made it the money they deserve. I never thought twice about buying Chrno Crusade when I saw it on the shelves XP. Went hungry though....

Lol yah same here except for love hina lol i just started getting DVD's i only have the ones that are on sale lol no time to buy them no time to watch them lol to busy with life! lol *sigh* well if you know of any series that are not known let me know I would love to go and buy some anime after i pay for college and get my debts paid off ^_^ anyways thanks for the responce and well i hope to talk to you around MT and if you need/want to talk my Email is listed on my User page lol ^_^

Box sets

Save money and more importantly save space. Because between all the reading material, video games and movies.. tere's only so much space for eveything.

I voted for box sets/collectors editions. As said previously, its alot cheaper than buying the anime, one dvd at a time. I also usually watch and finish the fansub first b4 buying a dvd. I seriously do not like wasting money even on one dvd where the anime is complete garbage.

I'm a die hard collector... I've got over 300 series in over 500 dvds (1TB+ worth of anime spread over all my harddrives and dvds), I struggle hard enough organizing them. But if there's something japanese out there that I don't have, i'll buy it.

That said I have at least one new series downloaded/bought a day, so I'm quite well off :P - manga, soundtracks and merchandise included

lol nice comments all i agree with most things said here but becareful mods are watching me like a hawk and they are very picky about um "comments inside of threads and yes Buying anime is good *nods to alot of air*

I also have a lot of series so to try and get more space I'm building shelves in my closet since there is a lot unused space. I measured about seven feet of shelving, times I'm thinking seven levels so that's 49feet of total space. That should be enough space to last me for a few years and it'd be even better when I get all of my DBZ VHSs converted into DVDs. After cleaning out my closet however I can take my time putting up the shelves since I won't need them until March of 06 when I get the boxes for both My Hime and Gundam Seed Destiny.
