how does the people of your country see anime?

for an example... in Portugal, few are the ones who heard of anime, most of the people also think anime cartoons are for children and they don't even translate the manga... I have got to read it in french!
When i come near a friend of mine and ask him if he sees any anime, he would problably ask me "What's anime? Is it for eat?" and, for an example, my parents always thought anime was for children, until my dentist, who's a person who know anime and manga, told then that anime is the kind of cartoon for teenagers and younger adults.

Is it anime seen by your country with good eyes, ot just a play ground for kids?

Same here in Mexico anime is seen as cartoons for children X(

I dont know about the rest of the U.S but in Florida when i mention anime most people seem to think of hentai or large breasted girls in skimpy outfits :(

In my state it has very little presence, with is still slotted into the back corner of EBGames or some import shop. However on my holiday I saw a hell of a lot of it with whole dedicated stores and it was for sale even in department stores.

Well it see in some non-big brand stores, but u can't find the certains anime u want at both stores, unless u go online.

Here in North Dakota (U.S (a little, not so well known mid northern part)) it is still not so well known but little by little I have noticed more and more people and stores started carrying anime. And not just the really popular anime but some of the not so known as well.

Here in Nc, USA anime is seen as a fantasy art because the artwork here is very different from anime. A lot of the features on the characters are drawn more widely for example the eyes and I think it makes the art stand out more.

Alberta, Canada. Anime certainly has made its way onto YTV, which is basically a children's tv station that airs the latest cartoons, anime, and funny british comedies very late at night. The younger generation has really bought into it since these days you can find translated manga on the shelves of your local book store (Chapters), and go home and watch some on tv (mainly the mainstream animes). There are Shounen Jump magazines around at the local convenience stores around too. Its the older generation/s that's hard to get drawn into the world of Anime.

In Poland where I live, things are loking exactly as Blueheart and smoon says. Anime is for kids and manga is just a stupid comic for retarded teenagers _-_. But I must say that there are some lights in a dark tunnel of anime/manga discrimination. For example a monthly magazine witch comes with DVD movies came out with Ghost in The Shell first Movie and it was a big succes. So big that tomorrow the are releasing another immortal classic - Akira :).

In germany many people think that anies are just pervert pornos for ...perverts! Or the same reason as before: They think it is just for children! I really hate this but what can I do?
Lucky me that there are places like MT where I can talk to NICE persons!^^

lol, ya over here in GA....its chock full of these stupid and i mean just plain retarded rednecks that dont know what it is, nor really give a damn....they just think its a kiddish cartoon....my mom is from El Salvador and she thinks that its a kids cartoon also...i had to explain to her that if it was just a thing for kids...why would they make hentai? im sure a 5 yr old would be beating his meat to some hentai at that age....people are just so stupid over here!

In Finland manga is very popular. Every over 2 year old know what it is.
And thats true. Not that everybody are reading it or waching anime but only
1 from 1000 hates it. So it's really populared.

well a person before said that in germany people think that anime are prons or stupid cartoons for kids. that's right but i want to add that the anime that are shown in germany (like dragon ball z, sailor moon, yu-gi-oh, pokemon, this anime with those spinning-thingys ... something with blade) are (at least in my opinion) made for retards and commercial purposes. no wonder why everyone gets a wrong opinion about anime when you are only shown the bottom side of anime.

on the other hand there are a lot of communities like MT that deal with this topic and are a lot more open to the culture of anime. when it comes to the mass of people i believe that it's the same in every single country, but on a different scale.

in my country(Malaysia),there is a lot of anime fans but for general like parents, they still think tat anime is same like cartoons, for children view, but that can be change soon...I hope.

eh. in america or just the states i've been in (california. vegas & virginia) its seen about the same as everything else. of course alot of teenagers my age have a prefixed idea of what it is and ask if its cartoon porn. this is kind of hard to explain in alot of ways cause yes, there are titles out there that have a more pornographic use, but i'd rather they not group the entirety of anime into porn.
i haven't seen any good or any worse about anime in the long run anyway cause, in america they promote it as teenager cartoons and theres no real problem getting it translated into english. although it is kind of sad that not alot of people fully appreciate anime as much as they could. so, the states are pretty much mixed opinion when it comes to anime here.

In Hungary it's quite saddening...not that many people knows what it is exactly, and whenever I talk about it, most say "What? anime? that perverted cartoon?" or "did you say manga? that pedo-stuff?!"...I could punch those idiots...
Although recently a new channel started broadcasting animes after 8 pm. (name's A+ which is short for Anime+), so now it is starting to get more fans.

But few people know about animes, which is not on the programme (and usually the channel only buys anime series which has been licensed or whatever by the USA).

in Indonesia, many of them think tht anime is only for kids...but now a days, some of them appreciate it...we even held coplay party, manga exhibition, there's even a manga school (where we can learn how to draw manga...the sensei is from Japan ^_^), even there's a lot manga published (even though yaoi/yuri still lightly forbidden)

but for anime...they so take it easy, i don't like the dubbing (in Indonesian) one >.< n they nvr showed it till the end, always cut in the middle of the show >.< there's a lot of anime VCD/DVD here....but i nvr got to see one...cause my mom doesn't allow me to >.< T.T

In Germany (my country) the people do not speak a lot about anime....or I am deaf against it because I do not want to hear terrible things about it....
all the persons I know respect my manga/anime fever...
Only my parents say that I should not hang up so many posters
(I have only 37 hang up in my room and there were hung up many more a time ago ^.^)....

well i live in romania , not too many people heard of manga or anime , but there are a few romanian forums about anime and stuff and i have a lot of friends who like anime/manga , anime its not that popular and i hate it grrrrr , dammit.Well ill just stick with downloading from torrents thank god fo that :D

In Ecuador, you can watch them in the nime channel(ANIMAX) or buy the DVD.

In remember in the past (in the US), I never heard anyone talking about anime. I don't even remember hearing the word until the Pokemon seizure incident. Some people in the news (though I don't remember this) made anime a bad TV program. That didn't affect anime a lot; in fact, I believe that anime wouldn't have been that popular if the Pokemon incident didn't occur. Even 4 years ago, when I started High School, the Anime Club was just created in my school. Back then, there was practically no one that knew what anime was (with the exception of Digimon and Pokemon, which already lost its popularity in my school). This changed drastically during the past 4 years and now, almost everyone knows what anime is. It's not just that; many people in my school watch more anime than American cartoons (with some exceptions). That's just one example of how anime popularity has grown.

Here in the States we have Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, which are both on the same channel, the Anime Network, which I don't have XO and let's see I think the last is the Tech Channel, which I also don't have XO XO . Then of course there is also OHHHHH! There is also the WB too that is were we get to see shows like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon. And then there is of course in DVD form at our local Video store/Music/Book store and well that's it I think. If I missed anymore then please my fellow American Otaku fill in for me. ;)

even though anime is not so popular here in Canada, i still order it from an Anime store here which ships it in my house.

Anime is pretty big in Texas, at least in the circles that I run in. But we mostly download fansubs or watch DVD's out friends bought to start out with. I can see how people could get the wrong idea of anime starting out on Yu-gi-oh or Pokemon....

Oh and a good way to get anime is to go to Otaku Conventions and buy from the Dealer Rooms, it may be pricey, but you can get stuff that you won't see anywhere else.
