With the complants of how todays video games have become way too graphicly
violent and sexualy suggestive with such titles as Doom 3, The Dead or Alive
series, Bloodrayne, The Suffering Ties that bind, Leasure Suit Larry Magna Cum
Laude, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, and it may have negative affects on
society's young is this really the case?
yeah man what do you mean too far... and besides dead or alive is suggestively
for men anyways... just like grand theft auto and that one playboy sims game...
yeah i know... people should refocus their attention on reality... but if it's
fun... they're only doing it to be relaxed
I ask this because parents are up in arms that certain video games maybe the
cause and the blame for their childrens acts of murder, theft, fights to emulate
certain video game sequinces or to obtain these games illegally. Ceirtan parent
started anti- violent groups states that they warp the gamer's perseptions of
the world around them such as the notions of right and wrong (Performing
crinimal acts to win an obective in Grand Theft Auto), bluring the lines of good
and evil (the popular choose your path theme featured in games as Black and
white Fable, Ultimate Spider Man, Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic series,
) sexulally overstimlating content (whitch can shown in the exploits of a
certain adult magazine manager in Playboy the video game, the sexual antics in
Leasure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude, the very skimpy costumes the female fighters
wear in The Dead or Alive series, the questionable touch and feel gameplay in
Feel the Magic XX/XY, and the infamous hot coffey sequience in Grand Theft Auto
San Andreas game ), and the ultimate taboo, the act of graphic killing (Which
can be seen in The Suffering, Mortal Kombat Deception, Doom 3, Resident Evil
series ), and so on.
I say they haven't gone far enough! =D Sure there's lots of violence/sex, but
it's all pretty NORMAL violence and sex. They need to branch out! Start
contreversies that are actually CONTREVERSIAL. Ooo... sex and violence...
nothing you can't see in an action film or a good porno. So what? Let's see some
imagination!
I don't think that video games today has gone too far. Sure some games at
explict and some are not. But thats that game indusrty work today. They give
what people wants. I personally think some games are a little over the boarder
line. The ones that make games explict are just desperate for money and will do
anything to get it. But that's why we have rules and regulations when buying
games or selling games to other that are 17+.
Yes and no. There are several games that, I personally feel, could use to be
toned down a bit. But the vast, overwhelming majority of this
"controversy" is nothing but media sensationalism. It's a good story.
It gets ratings. So, they play up on it even more to get even higher ratings.
There is no real crisis, only a manufactured one, and the small danger that does
exist would be alleviated entirely if parents just took more care in raising
their children. Sure, they can't be with their kids 24 hours a day, but if you
raise your kid right, you don't need to
be. I've seen it happen many times. A properly raised child doesn't need
supervision because they were taught to self-supervise. Any spillover (hey, peer
pressure does have an effect) can again be dealt with by more parental
involvement.
Seriously, it's all just the media looking for a good story. Video games aren't
evil...they are inanimate, they lack the necessary qualities to be either good
or evil. They haven't gone too far or failed to go far enough. They are exactly
where they should be for this time and place. The only failing is in how they
are seen by the public.
i really dont think that games have gone to far simply because so many different
forms of entertainment have alot of the same stuff that uptight parents are
against. i will admit that some games can get extremely intense and some do show
more blood than can be in a human but its entertainment.
there are ratings on the games to deter younger gamers but the parents are
failing to follow them and then get pissed at what they see. If people can pay
attention to ratings for movies they should be able to follow the game ratings
(they arnt brain sugery). Im playing Killer 7 right now and it is one of the
most intense, gory, and twisted games i have ever played, but i knew that the
game had this because i read the rating.
in short games havnt gone to far, if people can see violence and sex every where
in thier lives (sometimes without realizing it lilke in advertising) than why
should games stay dumbed down and become childish because some people are to
lazy to read the back of the box
I agree with you Caboose. Video games have a rating system. This allows the user
to see what they are getting into before they play the game. I have told my
child that he may not play M rated games and that I would need to approve of any
T rated games he plays. However, It is up to his character to abide by these
rules when at a friends house. It is the same as any other item that would be
taboo. Before ratings were in place all you could do was look at the cover and
guess. It is the game makers responsibility to put the content on the box and
the Parents respsiblity to educate their children to their rules.

On second thought, there is something we are doing in the movie industry that we
are not doing in the gaming industry as far as I know. Does any stor chain check
an ID when someone is buying or renting an M rated game?
Yes. Very much. I do not think that a game has to be bloody in order to sell.
Its starting to be important that you have blood in a game in order to sell!
A video game mag even has a 'gore' factor. The more gore say, the better it is
they say.
no they have not gone to far if you think about it games do no more than imitate
life don't people get killed in real life, don't people sell drugs, have sex,be
violent?not to mention if blood and gore was all that sells how does final
fantasy sell, ddr, sims, kindom hearts these are some of the top games.i mean
honestly if you think games are to violent crawl back in your little cocoon and
avoid the real world because most games are based on real life so suck it
up.thinking about that if games are too violent i guess you think it's okay for
those people to kill people and blame it on games, music and tv right
I don't agree. Maybe the people who make & play these games just want to
escape this reality by stepping into another. Although they have the same
elements such as violence & such.
Different games, whether violent, gory, itty-gritty, colourful, & whatnot...
are made for various audiences.
They may be fun & games for many, but for others, they're more than that...
they become an obsession. Games will always have their share of fans &
critics. It's anyone's choice to play a game & be influenced by its
contents. Ah, bittersweet freedom...
I don't think games have gone so far....It all depends on the person who plays
them. Some people go for sexual and violent games like Doom 3 or fear, others go
for sports like madden 2006 or Tony Hawk games, some go for fighting games like
Soul Caliber or Capcom Vs Snk 2, and it keeps going and going. Maybe some games
went over board with the gore and violence like the Suffering, or Fear (which
scare me like mad), but some games like Mario Kart or any like easy going
simulation games didn't go so far. They entertain the a youger people. Although
some simulation games such as Fate/Stay night, or Shuffle! On Stage are meant
for people like 14 or older. Yet again it's all about what people are in to
these days. Personally I like RPG'S, like Xenosaga 1 & 2, the tales series
and the final fantasy series.
at least not until they release that jack thompson idea for a console.
and for the record, LS Larry isnt "new" that series been around for
awhile
im for the rating system. its there for a reason. i've seen store clerks not
sell certain games to kids because of the rating (but then again that wasnt at
someplace like best buy or *insert store chain here* ).
i know GTA messed up, but in all fairness, i think complaining about that game
because of sex is just wrong to begin with.
i dont think blood means much in games. look at mortal kombat. that was such a
big thing in the mid 90's. street fighter still passes it without needing blood
(or am i just staring at chun and cammy too often to notice).
I think blood in viedo games is alright, it makes it more realistic. But, they
do go to far with some gross, gorey, slimy, YUCK scenes. I like a viedo game
with a mix of violence and peacefulness. I cant stand games with no story to
follow, that just consist of blowing things up.
If there's any relationship between violent video games and a crumbling society,
its because of both the video games and parents of the kids who get them. I knew
a second grader who talked about playing Halo 2. I'm getting really tired of
people blaming problems with kids and society on video games. The parents have
the authority in the house, not the children. They can tell their kids what
video games they can & cannot buy or have.
oh bah people blame video games for kids being violent...only stupid people do
stupid things...if this kid is a jackass and thinks its OK to bash someones head
in with a pipe then well take his game away...and the parents shouldnt buy
little kids M games...my six year old cousin has GTA:San Andreas...my grandma
saw he was playing it and took it away and said he couldnt have it til he was
18...
Any videogame that only has sex and violence randomly inserted FOR NO REASON at
different parts and is the main theme of the game is going to be a crap one.
Just like how if a videogame has random pictures of some guy's cat for no reason
but is the center of the whole game. Sex and violence are attractive, they go
against the grain. They stir up contraversy. Asking a question like this is just
going to encourage more production of the same.
Grand Theft Auto has a fun idea for a game. A free roaming world that you can
steal cars in, but I say its a bad game because it essentially has no depth.
I'll play any of the new age GTAs for about 20 minutes until I become completely
bored. Maybe if there were events that happen in the city, or the cops weren't
so dumb. Or work off of the internal clock of the PS2 to have holidays or
something. GTA is just too boring, even if you play the storyline.
I guess my stance is VIDEOGAMES HAVE NOT GONE FAR ENOUGH! If you can add tons of
sex and violence in a game and still make it enjoyable for more than an hour
then I'm sold! I don't care if I'm a tool... At least tools are usefull.
As far as parents are concerned, this is why they made the ratings system for
games. Also game stores have also been checking IDs and verifying people are of
age when buying or purchasing games. After that, it is up to the parents and/or
guardians to keep watch over those games that could and would influence others
with violent impulses and criminal-like intent.
So long as the games are still fun or bring about new interesting elements and
the gameplay doesn't tire or get boring, then im fine with it.
Gone to far and done what exactly? Could you please clarify as to exactly what you mean by this.
With the complants of how todays video games have become way too graphicly violent and sexualy suggestive with such titles as Doom 3, The Dead or Alive series, Bloodrayne, The Suffering Ties that bind, Leasure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, and it may have negative affects on society's young is this really the case?
Comments Welcome.
Too far...?
Can you name some negative effects games these days have on people?
Not all games made in the present are sexually suggestive, or too detailed in violent scenes..
No.
