I'm looking for a good, cheap and reliable web hosting service.

It needs to be

Able to direct-link to other sites for sigs, bgs, bgms and whatnot

Good, reliable spacy E-mail service (preferably 1+ gb)

Fast!

Easy to use control panel and overall simple interface and management

Constantly up (never any down time, or little bit)

Good message board service/chatroom

Excellent customer service

No pop ups and ads

I'm currently looking at 1&1, Lunarpages and Bluehost. Anybody got any suggestions or at least some feedback?

freewebs is decent for its free content you dont get e-mail service...but it's easy as hell to use, there are ads but just a few. You can get premium service where you can get email and other things and i think it's pretty cheap!

www.freewebs.com

I use dreamhost.com and i'm pleased with their service.

I was on a comunity on lunarpages and they kick us off the server, very disapointed, but if is for personal use i don't think you'll have any problem.

NEVER use powweb.com the worse service (downtimes, slowly servers,...) i've seen ever.

I agree on the don't use Powweb front - bad downtime, hard to use control panel/management, bad customer service

I've been thinking about switching to Dreamhost when the time I've paid for Powweb is up.

You might look at
HostReview's power search - you select what options/price range you're interested in and it shows you what's available.

I got paid hosting at http://www.online.fr a few years ago. It's cheap, fast connection, domainname, ftp, php, mysql, cgi-bin, email etc.
Unfortunately I had no time to maintain the site anymore.

Anyway, they also have a free version. http://www.free.fr/

You get 100mb, PHP, MySQL, IMAP, POP3, CGI. If like me, you keep something active over there, you can get 1GB after a year. It doesn't cost you a cent and it's fast. No ads, no hidden fees or whatever :)

I'd give it a try :)
