For those who dream of getting Sony Playstation Station 3. It's time
for your to really start saving or come up with a very good
excuse as to why your parent should get you one of those consoles.

for my budget). also i'd most likely order it online and considering the weight
and site of the console the delivery price may be well above $200.

goods. The PS3 will not be more than 400 dollars if sony expects to gain

This is rubbish. It's a well known fact that when new consoles come out, the
companies sell them at cost or at a loss, and make money through the sales of
the actual games. When the XBox first came out it was selling at a large loss
per console. As technology and production methods improve, the price to make the
consoles decreases and so the companies don't make as much loss after some time,
and may even start profitting. Although by that point they usually cut the
console's price to get more sales than competitors.
The idea that anyone would release a console for $800 is ridiculous.
I'd say that they'll sell it at a loss. Their marketing plan involves tons of
people getting the base console and buying a lot of games. Their income will
come later from the games that they will sell. Think of printers, the
"hardware" if you deduct the ink cost is almost free.
^ Sony is already making huge losses, evidence coming from the cease of
production of AIBO, the Robo-Doggy, I don't think they could afford to cut costs
anymore.
But I believe the price will be high, because fewer people would buy accesories
to go with the console, and most of the revenue of the games sold will go to the
producing industries, which does not only include Sony.
Just because some one says they have the inside scoop doesn't mean they do. I
don't think anybody except for Sony knows the actual price, and Sony is really
good at keeping stuff in a wrap and keeping their mouth shut. Besides why would
they put a huge price on it, nobody would by it and they know it.
I know what you are going to say, it's because of the blue ray drive. I'm pretty
stuck on the matter myself, because when the PS3 comes out it will be the first
ever BRD (blue ray drive) player in the world on the market. Believe me I have
read alot (like every report and rumors as well) about the BRD. Even though the
reputation of the BRD is unbelievable, I don't think such a hefty price is a
good idea for Sony to make.

processor ever made for a gaming console. *Catshing$$* This CPU isn't gonna be
cheap to build.
Then, like Shinangels said a few posts above, the new BRD is really kick-ass new
technology. Sony's the first to put it on the market? They're the first to put
the prices... *Catshing$$* BRB is new, production cost will be high (at first)
and they have the market advantage (for now)...
I know it ain't fair for us customer, but a company's first objective is
unfortunately: PROFIT (I hope SONY is more socially
oriented...Anyway...)
I also think they won't put an excessivly high price, but prepare yourself to
pay 300 bucks + !
FINALLY, high prices will not stop companies from selling their product... Just
take a look at the Xbox360 from Microsoft! Gee... That's really high prices too
and some weird people seem to want it soo much they're ready to ruin themselves
to own it!
But also, Sony has a great reputation, have many cutomers, MANY fans/devoted
cutomers and they're one of the best company I've ever known. I really hope they
don't deceive us, their privileged customers...

Doubtful Sony will release at that price. They will even at a dramtic loss keep
it close to the Xbox360 price to compete. Not saying it will be 300 or 400 or
even 450. I'm predicting the price will land anywhere from 500-700. I'm guessing
problably 550-600 as a selling point for Sony's price. Sony has been known to
take even bigger margins on their Launches. Ie PS2 was I think, don't quote me
on this at least a 15% deficit per unit.

That's a lot of money, but at the end, they say that it'll probably sell for about $100 less. But still, that's quite a lot of money.

Firstly, that's not official. Secondly, Sony is part owner of Blu-ray and Cel.
The PS3 will probably cost a lot, but it's all hearsay until Sony makes an official statement.
That's the cost for the parts, but they're not going to sell it for that. Price estimates on the actual retail unit are around $400-600.
