Well, I got this Idea because I have made a little journey tio france last
month.
When I was there I realized that may people think even after 60 years after
Worldwar 2 that Germany is a country full of nationalistic and dangerous people.
It seems like the germans are all monsters because I was kicked out from a bar
only because I am german. So many other countries did horrible things during
their own historical life but the subject "Nazi Germany" seems to be
very "popular" to the people. This leads me to my question:
Do the people in your country think that Germany is a country of Nazi people or
do you know in general how the people think about this theme?
I relly want to know cause not only in France many people think that way....
Well... Here in Chile there is a big diference between a nazi and a german, in
fact, in my class, back then when I was in the school, I had two classmates that
were german,
and there was never any problem...
I think that the way a french act is related with the fact that France was
occupated by Germany in WW2. It like the hate between greeks and turks.
Well, I live in France, and unfortunately, it is true that some people think
that Germany is still Nazi... I'm ashamed of this country, especially since the
french actively collaborated with the nazis, and some politicians today like Le
Pen behave in startlingly similarly to Hitler, i.e., throw all the Arabs back to
Africa, the Muslims and Jews must be killed, etc.
I recently saw a ludicrous poster: "we'll stop being racist when all go
back to Africa" Gods, I really need to get away from France, hypocrite and
racist.
People in my country do dealings with many germans, so we really don't think
that way. I mean have our own nazist group in our country to boot, germans are
exclusive in that regard.
And I understood that first comment, I just have to say it paints quite the
picture. (refering to schwindelmagier) Es war sehr interessant, dass sie das so
fuehlen.
And on another note, I don't care if are that way or not. I am also quite fond
of germans. (And not just their cars.) I also spent an entire year infatuated
over an exchange student here. They are quite nice, just people fear of
nationalistic notion that people refer to as "nazism".
Es war gut dich gehoeren, bis dann, Auf Wiederhoeren.
Well, here in Germany (^^), I was startled to see a few people who still seem to
be guilty for being German and feel responsible for Hitler - at least that's the
impression I got.
Before I came to Germany I lived in Estonia, and I don't think anyone in Estonia
still thinks of nazism when Germany is mentioned - thank heaven. ^^;
I am also from germany and I also heard often, that germany is still occupied
with nazis. Ok, hitler did a lot of bad things but does that mean that now, two
generations after that, all germany still believe in his noncene? NO! During WW2
there were groups who fought against him. think of "die weiße
rose"....
One time I was in Poland in an museum where some older women watched in the
rooms. And they saw at us as if we are going to steal something....
One told me that some think in America, that Hitler is still alive and has the
power. Don't they know history? I can't understand that, really!
Well, Hilter is not German, he is Austrian. And Nazi is not a nationality
concept, rather a ethnic and political concept.
That being said, I know a lot of people who one way or the other, project
Germans to be Nazis. The deep psychological hurt that the Germans placed on
Europe was too big to overcome in 50 years. There are two main groups who
exhibited this behavior
a) Survivors -- suggestion: go see a psychologist
b) young people -- many cases, it is just children talk, so I would not get too
concerned about it.
The only way to heal this is to put forth a strong economic collaboration
between Germany and the rest of Europe. It has already begun to take shape these
days, so it is an encouraging sign
I live in the Great Kingdom of Poland
(it's true!De facto Poland has never
stopped being a kingdom...but someone forgot about that little detail :-D
).
In my country, there are not many ppl such dumb to think that every german is a
nazi... but the mass-media (internet,
TV, radio, press) are just sensitive to FAKING HISTORY.
Once upon a time, on the 60th anniversary of the Attack on Normandy, Herr
Schroeder said, together with Monsieur Chirac, that Germans were fighting
together with French soldiers against the 'bad' Alliants.....but Germans are not
so bad in this issue...Soviets are worse
Some things should be forgiven, but not forgotten.
Germany is a normal country, there are stupid people, there are populists, there
are thiefs, politics, alter-globalists, nazi, just like in every
nation.
Quote: One told me that some think
in America, that Hitler is still alive and has the power. Don't they know
history? I can't understand that, really!
Some people in America believe in The Bilble, but literally.... they do not
believe in the Darvin's Theory... people believe also in Aliens in Government,
and many, many other things...
I'm from the netherlands.. and i have no problems at all with german people.
the people who waged war in WWII were 2 generations older then me and in my
opinion it's not worth all the hassle anymore to keep bringing old feelings
up.
I don't care if someone is German, French or English - the war happened a long
time ago... perhaps its time for people to move on. To that end, kicking someone
out of a bar purely because of one's nationality is seems overkill to me.
Anyway, as to where I live (New Zealand), I don't think anyone much cares here,
either. We had two German exchange students at the school I was attending 2
years ago, and they were made just as welcome as the excange students from other
countries.
even though im 1/128 german (keeping a german surname still) people still think
i should hate jews, but most people i know german is like a depressed place with
rules like mentioning the word nazi can get u a fine
Here in the US the only people we are conserned about are terrorists becouse of
the stupid president. Actually I am part German, but I am not racist at all. Did
you know that Hitler was jewish? Weird huh? Have you heard of Matisyahu
(pronounced madtis yahoo)? He is Jewish.
I been living here for about three years now.....I live in a town called
Arnstien and its okay, I guess; considering I am an American Soldier and Black!
From what I have learned, they are like other people; some are prejudice, like
some Americans, and some are curious, they never seen a black guy before, and I
guess I am not making a good impression, I used to cut through town, music
blasting during the summer.
I live in the U.S. and for the first 16 years of my life, the family next door
to me was German. The entire family spoke fluent German and English and they
also displayed a great love for their new country. Having people in your life
who come from a different background than you is wonderful. I never thought of
them as Nazis, nor did anyone else in my neighborhood. In fact, the father of
the family next door always threw a great big party on the fourth of July and
everyone in the neighborhood was invited. It was like a big block party You see,
not only was it Independence Day but it was also his birthday.
I guess what I'm saying is that not everyone thinks German=Nazi. I bet there are
some people who think that way, but certainly not everyone. Don't judge an
entire country on the basis of a dozen or so encounters.
I hate this kind of crap, its bloody everwhere. So many people in England have
this thing about Germans, I've been there, I've met plenty of Germans & they
are uniformally lovely people in my experience & should WW2 ever come up,
they are uniformally ashamed.
People shouldn't have to feel like that, people shouldn't have to live with the
mistakes of others, sure we all need to be taught about it to prevent a
recurrence, but so often I feel so bad for Germans because its just, the people
there now, they did not have anything to do with WW2 & many of those who did
were just following what they were told & in the circumstances of Germany at
the time, I can totally see how people might come to act as they did, not
because they're bad people, but because propaganda & threats are powerful
motivators that blind even good people.
Unfortunately a similar stigma exists against Japan because of WW2, prior to my
coming here there was a discussion on another forum where a few individuals
described Japan as racist & felt they should still be made to pay for WW2, I
honestly couldn't believe it, why do people feel that the actions of completely
different people from a completely different time should be carried by those who
follow them?
Thats like saying to me "Oh, you're English, so chances are someone you're
related to killed SOMEONE in the past, so you need to repent for
it."
It sickens me how this kind of stuff is piled onto people by the ignorant
majorities, especially Germany, honestly, along with the Japanese, some of the
nicest people I've ever met.
in canada i have never seen any problems, and personally think that what
happened in the past is in the past, i've got a crush on a girl who hails from
Germany.
Here in Poland, it's not the matter of thinking about Germany as a nazi country.
That's just a plain stupid thing to think at this time and I'm really surprised
some people in France are like that... It's more about the history, some people
still can't forget and just don't like germans. But time passes and everything
gets better from what I can see, the atitude changes. Personally I think the
past can't be forgotten, but people have to remember that almost everything
changed from that time and thinking in the same categories now isn't a very good
idea.
well when i went back to bulgaria la year ago, i found an interesting vibe. see
we are allies of germany since the german federation. the interesting part is
that our king(currently RIP) went to talk to hitler about the treatment of jews.
now what the fact are is that he went there came back and 3 days later he
died...no one could findout why he died...so naturaly some bulgarians blame the
german intelegence agency for poisoning him.
but people i know dont hold that grudge against germany for that, they hold
bigger grudges over serbia and romania for attacking us ...so from that part of
the world i wouldnt worry about it
I'm from Poland and I have to say that many people still don't like Germans,
especially older people who lived through the war. It's different with younger
people, but those influenced by their grandparents' stories are strongly
prejudiced (like me, unfortunately). Also, they don't like Germans as a nation,
not as individuals. People also tend to think that Germans still pose a visible
threat to them, e.g. by returning to Poland and claiming the land that belonged
to them before the war.
Nazis, then =Germans, started the war and it should not be forgotten. I don't
like when people say it wasn't their fault and they were manipulated by Hitler.
More than 90% of Germans chose Hilter, and I don't think it was only
manipulation or fear. They must have used their brains too to follow him. They
just chose what was the best for them.
Well if one really knew about the history between France and Germany they would
see that it's more thenjust WW 2, but that is the most recent thing between the
two countries. You have to remember that most of the French population was
killed in the first World War by the German army. And before that France and
Germany were fighting for control of the Rhineland (a secotion of land that runs
across the German-French boarder). But this doesn't mean it's ok for the French
to act this way. They need to forgive Germany for what has happened and move on.
The governments of both coutries are moving closer to that goal all they need
now is for the French people to support it.
Quote by Silverwolf12Did you know
that Hitler was jewish? Weird huh?
Just a note for some of you watching at home. Hitler was born in an antisemitic
village in Austria. He was born into Catholic family. It is rumoured that an
ansester of his is Jewish, a fact yet not proven. People say he was Jewish to
make him sound eviler (if that is at all possible). Another thing that should be
noted, years after the war the Roman Catholic church declared that Hitler was
not Catholic, nor was he ever one. Just thought you guys should know this and
remember to check your facts before you state them.
OK, first, I'm French, from north-eastern France. When it comes to German
passing through, 'nach Paris', I guess you could say we had more than our share.
During the first world war, 2/3 of the younger generation in my family died in
the trenches. During the second world war, others spent some time hidden in a
barn or in a camp (resistance). Now, does that mean that people around me resent
the German? Well certainly, just after the wars there must have been some
resentment, but as time passed, things changed. Things changed really fast
actually. German and Nazi are two extremely different notions. There have been
nazi in France, but also in every other country. And it's also true that there
have been German people who opposed to this regime.
Just for information, my great-grand-father (who spent half of the war hiding
and whose wife came back from the camp half mad, because he had been making
forged papers and had been betrayed by French ppl) met a former German soldier,
just after the war, who finally decided that he liked France more than Germany.
He didn't want to get back there. My great-grand-father, the local town mayor
did his best to get him papers and so on...
Some French people may still think that Germans were Nazi, but those are not the
majority, at least not where I come from. You find idiots everywhere.
Damn right. I am from Mexico, and even here there are some so-called
"Neo-Nazi" groups. But they are a minority, like in many other
countries (at least, that's what I know, for I like to investigate about Nazi
Germany and Hitler history). In general, Mexico is totally againts all kinds of
anti-semitic National-socialism. Me and my family too, as well.
But I'm here just to say it is not a matter of country, it is a matter of social
facts and culture. Think about fascism and other ultra-exclusive social
factions. Germans did boast about their "german blood", right, but we
must think about the many of German people who watched their country fall down
for some crazed Natioalsocialist. Some German people were not Nazi, they
understood the sickness of their ways. Nevertheless, I also understand that
French people's point of view: they were ravaged in 2 bloody wars by German
regime soldiers. They will never be able to see them other way, probably. That's
why we must promote culture, to make know the truth about those kind of people,
like Nazis.
I say, as long as there is still people who hold this indiscriminally general
grudge against all Germany or another country's people, there still will be
conflictive society.
Well, I got this Idea because I have made a little journey tio france last month.

Nazi's are more of a political party/militant group than a country.
