Ultraviolet is a new sci fi motion picture set in a futuristic looking world
where human "weapons" are made. I guess over time they become too
dangerous and now they are being destroyed by their creators. Violet, the main
character, survives the hunt. Armed with a sword, guns, intellect, and her
enhanced inhuman abilities, she has no choice but to fight back. The action
looks cool and visual effects looks nice.
This movie is like a mix of Ghost in the Shell and Kill Bill.
There seems to be a sudden rash of these sci-fi/fantasy thriller movies (Aeon
Flux, Underworld, etc.)
I always get excited when I hear about a new one coming out but as far as I can
tell...not enough time is spent on the plot/scripts of these type of movies and
they rely too much on flashy action sequences
I saw the trailer for Ultraviolet in theatres and it reminded me too much of the
Aeon Flux previews (which totally didn't pan out when it was
released)...
Plus...the fact that the girl's name is Violet and the movie title is
Ultraviolet just struck me as a tad ridiculous...my friend and I started
cracking up when we saw the title flash on the screen
For some reason taking what could have been a cool name and tacking
"ultra" in front of it just sounded rather corny
Still...despite all this...I hold out hope that it will be a good movie...there
just aren't enough good sci-fi/fantasy movies
The movie looks SO stupid! i will not be going to see that movie! i love movies
that show alot of blood, guts, ect. not some stupid movie like Ultraviolet.
Just watched the trailer. At first I was thinking Aeon Flux rip-off, then I saw
the action scenes and thought Matrix/Equilibrium rip-off? then I heard the song
by Rob D (Clubbed to Death) and I thought "yeah, definately a rip off of
most cyberpunk films and possibly Resident Evil too". Some of you might
remember the opening line in Resident Evil 2 (the movie), when Milla Jovovich
says "My name is Alice, blah blah" and in the Ultraviolet trailer she
says "My name is Violet, bleh bleh" (you get the point :P )
Milla Jovovich seems to have been type-casted again as the generic ass-kicking
vixen (not that I'm complaining). She can move quite gracefully but
unfortunately she can't really act that well... she trys too hard to put on a
husky voice (or is that just the way she talks?) which IMO isn't sexy. Milla was
amazing in The Fifth Element, which I reckon is still one of the best sci-fi
films ever, but I haven't really enjoyed any of her other films.
I'd watch this film just for the sake of it. I usually enjoy cyberpunk films and
this one seems to have bucket loads of action and even samurai swords! (Kill
Bill ripoff! )
I went to see Ultraviolet friday night... I must say, it's gotta be the worst
movie I have ever seen. Crap story/plot. Crap special effects. Crap acting (poor
Milla). Score was decent at least. The action/fight sequences sucked, I don't
care how they come across in the trailers. Not only did I waste $10 to see this,
but I wasted 1 1/2 hours or so of my life. I can't properly express how bad I
though this one was. I DID give it a chance by actually sitting through all of
it (many in the audience left halfway).
As a film critic (writter) it looks like a standar Sci-Fi production.
Lately Sci-Fi movies (even those from experienced producers or filmmakers) are
not getting so good fav points as for going to the cinema or a screening.
That's why I haven't gone to watch Ultraviolet. I just can't believe how some
screenplays still so void and empty, and are made just for releasing a product's
picture.
I'm looking for a really good Sci-Fi motion picture.
Sorry!
Yeah it looked horrendous, just the cutting in the trailler pissed me off. All
that recycled matrix effects and bland ideas, "NOW SHE HAS TO FIGHT
BACK!" i can imagine some overpaid studio executive that thought for a
whole 3 seconds about this. "Ultra Violet!" yeah her name is violet
and shes ultra! with nice ass in leather and machine guns and swords! plus guess
what?! SHE HAS TO FIGHT PEOPLE WEAKER THAN HER SO ALOT OF NONDESCRIPT GUYS CAN
DIE!
i saw the movie and i thought it was ok, i really like the action though. but i
dont like how movie critics make it sound soo bad. i understand movie is big
enterainment, and critics like to point out every error they see, but i think
long as it entertains you its fine. i read bunch of movie critics review. and
one of them comparing the fights in the movie with pokemon battles, i mean where
the hell does he see pokemon in that movie, and some says lines like
"ultraboring" or ppl saying action sucks. but really i think they
tried to copy the action in the comic. so action wasn't same style as all other
action movies. and i guess ppl dont like changes:P and i agree with plot being
crappy. but i think action in the movie balanced it out, so i wasnt bore through
out the movie. but overall i think movie was probably made for ultraviolet comic
fans and probably reading the comic would have help understand the movie better.
Quote by shoujoboyI saw the preview
trailer for it and it just looks like another movie of some action but no
substance, not my cup o' tea.
It looks like another AeonFlux to me short story with some twist and lots of
butt kicking then the rebels wins.
Not gona weaste my time. Equilibrium was better then this.

the future in it looks bleak, similar style of Equillibrium, which was a good movie. i dont think i will like it.
i intend to see this movie. i really enjoyed equillibrium, and i think this movie reminds me of it, which is why im gonna see it

Yea, I was looking forward to the movie too...but it got a horrible 5% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
whoa that's almost as bad as Uwe Boll's films! Maybe I should reconsider watching this....

Guess what? The reviews are in. Ultraviolet ranked number 4 on the box office hits. It earned 9 million dollars nationwide (U.S.).
The guards in the buildings looked like rip-offs of the Police from Half Life 2, especially since they had stun sticks
I thought that there was too much computer animation in it, and it took away from the movie
