Guys/Gurls,Ladies and gentlemen......I have a problem here..Ow do u actuallly
remember stuff? To make it more specific,it's like remembering the terms
,words.......yada..yada..yada..I'm having difficulties memorising them alll
since I have a head like a sieve and I'm really serious.FOr thos who has this
problem too, please help me cuz I'm scared...My grades will fail if i don do
smth..ANd FOR THOSE who take physic form 4,ow do u actually learn the chap 2
stuff about accelaration n stuff..it's confusing to me... :S Hey,thx...
It's really hard to give THE solution to memorizing problems... I'm not a
specialist, but if I'm right, everybody has his own way of memorizing things.
You have people who can remember almost any spoken discussion they had in the
last few days. Others who can remember almost anything they read. Everybody's
different.
I heard that some people would remember a really impressive number of things by
"seeing" a landscape they like and putting things to remember in the
landscape. For example, there was a man who could see the street leading to his
grandmother's house. It was a really important place to him when he was young,
and now, whenever he wants to remember something, he puts it in this street. I
have to remember a phone number? I look at the flowers and put the number
there... So one way to try remembering things could be to try linking things to
remember with images that are important to you.
Usually people tend to remember things they find funny. Based on this, you can
try linking things with funny stories or images. You can try to memorize
formulas by inventing small stories around them, or by silly puns on words
linking to the formula.
If you're more into an auditive memory, try to create small songs or stuff like
that.
However, no matter what, I guess understanding what you have to remember is the
most important part. Even more so for formulas.
And once you've mastered the main idea, don't forget to train, to actually gain
some experience by repeating the process of actually USING the things you have
to remember...
Sorry if this does not provide easy solutions, or if it's not a magic formula
for improving your memory, but that's all I could do. And don't forget that you
have your own way of memorizing things, so don't forget this: what matters is to
know yourself.
Well if you've got problems memorizing things, it first could be because you
either don't sleep enough, or don't have a good diet.
It is more or less admitted that the brain needs sleep to memorize what has been
done during the day (though the exact process has been unclear for years ). Also, i
find it usefull to make physical efforts before learning anything, because the
tiredness of my body gives me a more acute sense of things (i don't know if it
has any scientific basis though).
Also, about the diet, a few things you should eat are fruits and veggies (yeah
always the same), black chocolate (cause it's got lots of magnesium in it),
dried grappefruit....
The process of memorizing implies a lot of cerebral areas, which are more or
less specific to different types of memories (names, numbers, actions such as
walking which you do inconsciously... etc).
But it's true that making puns with the formulas can help (usually, it'd be
something with a gross aspect to it.... that's how i remember things anyway).
Also, reading things several times can help, and having 'real-life' exemples
(which, in some courses like math, can be hard to find)
Just a suggestion, but when I have to memorize formulas and definitions I
usually just write them on a piece of paper a few times until I can finally
memorize them without looking at them. Although, there is another way to
memorize things and you're going to think I'm crazy for suggesting it, but a
very good way to memorize something is to say it loudly and clearly. That way
your brain can recognize it because it was not something that is normally done.
But I'm really not sure how well it would work for definitions... Another
tip is to get a good nights sleep right before your big test and a good healthy
breakfast!
i usually read something at least three times and then i can remember it. but i
need to get a lot of sleep or i just can't remember anything no matter how hard
i try.
well u can go over stuff, by writing/solving stuff over and over, read it over
and over, or get someone to explain it to u over and over, well thats what i was
told to tell ppl at the place im learniing to tutor ppl
An experiment was conducted a few years ago and found out that students can
remember things better by studying in the morning than any other time of the day
Understanding is generally preferable to memorizing. If you understand the
underlying concepts, you shouldn't have to memorize anything. For things that
you absolutely have to memorize, you can write down everything you need to
memorize, then just go throught the list over and over again. When you feel like
one of the items on the list is firmly stuck in you head, cross it out. You will
eventually narrow the list down to just a few things. You may need to repeat the
process a few times to make sure you didn't forget the stuff you crossed out
earliest.
I like Mikenox's idea. Plus, you have to have some
notes and stuff if you want to remember anything too difficult. I imagine
Physics is pretty hard. I'm taking Trig right now, first thing in the morning,
and I can never remember anything... I always have to take my notebook out and
look at it.
Of course, during first period, I haven't
biologically woken up yet.
School = 8:00
Time I wake up biologically = 9:30
I should
be taking classes later in the day... it works better with my
system...
Oh, another thing: 5-6 hours is FAAR from enough
sleep. For an adult, it doesn't do as much harm, but teenagers need around 8-9
hours of sleep.
I generally remeber things I read 75 - 80%of the time without actually having to
study it but I have seen with my sister who is not as lucky but in the end does
better than me a studies is she drills herself, she makes summaries and then
studies her summaries it takes alot of time and work but in the end it seems it
is worth it!
By basically studying most of the time she gets between 90-100% for her subjects
where lazy ass me who reads it through once gets about 70-85% for the same
subject matter.
Hope that helps! If you have trouble understanding try seeing some teachers to
help you understand the subject metter at hand!

Eat blueberries they help to improve your memory skills.
