I always change my OS, win98 to winX P, X P to 2000, etc. My computer is very old AMD K6-2 128 mb ram. I need my floppy disk to start win98 when I have boot problems.
Do you utilize you floppy disk to save data even?
Should the manufacturers continue manufacturing this device?
i think you should have to special order these things.
iono its an old device...i think its goin to die out sooner or later
i still use it cuz its easier
I use floppy disks very rarely... I heard that newer computers don't even have FD units! I think they're gonna die out pretty soon because they're unreliable, they have a small storage capacity and high access times, not to mention they're essentially ugly... X__x
just seeing this thread made me look at i remember i left a disk just taking up the slot (not in but just ejected) probably been there for a year now?
Wow who know how many times this has been repeated, lol
I still use a floppy drive when I need to update the bios on my
mobo and when I need to install my operating system (harddrives will not detect unless I install the controller drivers from a floppy disk).
Other than that I mostly use flash drives.
It is not necessary now...
I just got a flash drive. I used it until now to be able to take data to work or to kinkos. Now that I have a flash drive I will not be using it much any more.
I as well use a flash drive. Its so simple compared to the very fragile floppy disc... I've even sent my Flash drive thought the wash once by accident and it still works just fine... try doing that with a floppy and you'll be sorry that you stored personal info on there, it is interesting to know that people still use those though.... I thought that elementary schools were the only ones that used those, but apparently not
All the time on my 98 PC, however I rarely use them on my new machine, simply because there isn't another machine to put the disk into.
I guess the only things I use a floppy for is to
- Update my bios
- Install SATA drivers on installing of Windoze
- Memtest86
of course not
Although I don't use it everyday, the floppy drive is still in use for fixing a lot of critical computer problems, such as when the hard drive fails or when a mobo's ROM needs to be flashed (Not all manufacturer supports flashing through windows yet). Other than that, I don't have any other use of the device.
Peace! *nerd*

i don't use it except to make boot diskettes for work to use on older computers.
my computer doesnt even hav a FD slot...
floppy disks are obsolete but since i don't have a USB stick i have to use it for small documents or i just burn my files
I used floppy disks last time approx 4 years ago. I've been using USB sticks instead. Those are smaller, faster, and can store more data. And my computer doesn't even have a floppy drive (I do have an USB connectable floppy drive though - just in case)
Regularly the time b4. Now i use USB device and floppy disks are very bad way to save data.
Anything a floppy can do a cd/flash drive can do better. I have not used a floppy in any way shape or form for a couple years now. The only time I can think of actually needing to use one is when working on older (win98) computers.
i heardly even use it anymore, i just leave it there so my lil sister and bro can use it for docs and such.
I haven't even had a floppy drive in my PC for years, all the floppy disks in the house are bad. I totally gave up on floppys and use RW optical media or USB Flash drives in their place any time I need to use something.
I don't use floppy anymore, my mp3 is a lot easier and has much more room...and i don't even have a floppy drive in my comp anymore =\
I still have a floppy drive in my PC but I almost never use it. Floppy drives are just simply unreliable. You buy a new one today and it can be broken a few minutes later. Also, 1 mb is not up to date with the current sizes nowadays. I simply use usb drives or CD/DVD-RWs. = )
I have a floppy drive, but I only use it for stuff on CD that isn't bootable. Also, the drivers for my controller card come on a floppy disk, so whenever I reformat, I have to use it that one time.
