Some agree with homosexual marriage, some disagree. How do you view it? Explain why.

I believe that homosexual marriage should be allowed everywhere. I cannot understand any reason as to why it shouldn't except society's prejudiced views.

Some say that a God does not "accept gay people". This is bogus. Not only should religion not be able to participate in a debate such as this, but "God" never said that he does not accept gay people. He simply does not accept gay sex. Marriage does not even have to be a religious ceremony.

Marriage is the pinnacle of a relationship. It shows how one person loves another at the most he or she can. If a guy can love another guy (or a girl with a girl, for that case) to the most he or she can, why not allow the union of such people?

Some say that it is traditional for marriage to occur between a man and a woman, and why should such tradition be broken? Yet, aren't we supposed to be striving forwards to improve our living conditions? According to an arguement such as this, would it be better if we were to go with the old remedies instead of improved vaccines?

Well, I simply don't care about homosexual marriage. It won't prevent me from eating, sleeping, talk with my friends and do any other daily activities. Those that are offended by homosexual marriage need to get a life.

I think the homosexual population should have the same rights as everyone else, including the right of marriage. I would like to think that our society has come far enough to acknowledge the love between two people of the same gender.

If two people of opposite genders who have never even met can get drunk and married for 25$ in Las Vegas, then I certainly don't see what all the fuss is about. Marriage is no longer a concept of religion, it is a concept of law. Many religious concepts are outdated and irrelevant in most societies now, such as the notion that women are subservient to men.

Some have even gone as far as to argue that if homosexual marriage is legalized, two people of the same gender will commit fraud to obtain the benefits that come with marriage. How is this impossible for two people of opposite genders?

Those who are offended by the lives of people they aren't even affected by need help, In my opinion. Love is love, regardless of gender.

Marriage is a religious institution. Who can and cannot be married isn't something that should be within the power of the government to decide, under the first amendment, speaking as an american. Even if I wasn't an american, I agree with the concept of freedom of religion.

And freedom of religion under the first amendment doesn't just mean freedom to pick which version of christianity you like best. It means freedom to be an old-style mormon, polygamy and all, or a buddhist, or whatever else, and to observe your religious beliefs even if they're offensive to the religious majority. If someone made up a religion that said only gay people get to go to heaven, and only gay marriages were allowed in thier religion, it would unquestionably be a violation of their first amendment rights to tell them they couldn't be married. I'm a Christian myself and even I understand that's the meaning and nature of the law, and that there are historical and ethical reasons for it.

Anyway, if the government makes any distinctions at all between married and unmarried people, and if an institution such as common law marriage, that allows people to be recognized as married in the eyes of the law and government without any religious ceremony, it should be open to all people. That's my opinion.

It's not right man, not right at all... then again, I don't care for it...

Marriage nowadays is so *legally* intertwined and filled with paperwork behind the scenes, especially during a divorce. You gotta make each other sign a pre-nup agreement so the other doesn't steal your stuff after a break up before the marriage. Why would a gay couple want the headache of that, is it solely the paper stating that they *love* each other? Is that some sort of proof?!? It's mind boggling...

I guess it helps for discounts in certain aspects and looks better on a job app., but this society is just so flooded, a cesspool of people, that almost anything is possible as the numbers increase. Maybe it's a way of recognition by the *big brother* mentality of us, children, we always strive to prove something to him... lol

Whatever people choose, it doesn't matter, cause I am only one soul... what I say holds little value. ^_^

I personally don't care about homosexual marriages. You can't help the fact that two people love each other and want to celebrate their love. It's the religions that interfere with all this. Once again, it's always religion...

To deny homosexuals of marriage is to not only say they do not deserve the right to marry but to say they do not deserve the right of any other human being. Marriage is not just an instutinal ceremony, you can get married in a court house if you want. aAlso the state actualy gives money and benefits to those who are married so it denies them of human rights andd finacial compensation. Religion just keeps wanting to say that marriage should just be in there relm but that is wrong beccause many people are not even beilvers in god and get married all the time. It on top of that makes the United States look foolish and stains our civil liberties record. Even Spain has gay marriage and almost all of the population is Catholic.

homosexual marriage is wrong. Marriage is a sacred event between two people, and is supposed to prosper as time goes on. Why do they find each other attractive is a question we should answer. It is not right to take this lightly.

I couldn't care less about this issue. Giveing them the right of marriage is the quickest way to kill this boreing topic.

Its not right. period. Its sick, its demented, its horrifying. Homosexuality should be ban, it should be against the law, because God didn't put peopl on this world so they can be attracted to their own sex. Yuck!

I just thought it would be better to post a little more information, more and more evidence shows that people who are homosexuals are born the way they are and even if it is a decision it dosen 't make it right to say their choice is wrong. In fact homosexuals have better relationships then other a study was done recently about Which group is happpier in their relation ship and the winner was homosexuals even the divorce rate is many times lower in countries that allow gay marriage. I feel ignorance is bliss but denial of rights is intolerable and unaceptable.

Your arguement is flawed by the fact that, like I've said, God does not accept gay sex. As for love, he allows it.

And it is not yuck. It is just not common. It was yuck for interracial couples back many years ago. Yet, will you deny different races to get together?

Quote: Marriage can include legal, social, and religious elements.

Quote: Typically, marriage is the institution through which people join together their lives in emotional and economic ways through forming a household. It often confers rights and obligations with respect to raising children, holding property, sexual behavior, kinship ties, tribal membership, relationship to society, inheritance, emotional intimacy, and love.

Quoted from wikipedia, this shows that marriage "CAN" include the legal, social and religious elements but it isn't mandatory.

Why do opposite genders find each other attractive?

Why do opposite genders find each other attractive?

Because that's how we procreate.

I'm opposed to homosexual marriage, and I voted that way in the Texas election.
Marriage is an institution that has existed, and served us well, for well over a thousand years. We do not need a tiny sliver of society, ten percent at best, according to most scientific studies, and more likely a much smaller percentage, trying to overturn long standing social standards simply because they are not pleased by them.

In every single instance where it is put to the voters, Gay marriage is voted down. Even in a liberal state like Oregon, Gay marriage was defeated.

That should tell you something.

hm... if we allow homosexuality to spread, sooner or later the human race is going extinct. but still, i think love between 2 people is acceptable, and marriage is just by the name. let's just treat these homosexuals as best friends, not couples.

it is fine with me tha tit happens eveyrone has a right to be married to me.

I hate homosexual marriage! Here's some things why: >=(

1. For me, It's not that God said so it's just that it's disgusting! Yuck!

2. They could be carrying Venereal diseases! I dont wanna be sick in THAT WAY!

I personally have a friend who has just admitted that he is gay and it doesn't bother me in the slightest his talking about is love life. I have to admit i found it extrememly strange at first and probably wouldn't want to witness them kissing but the idea that it isn't pure lust for the same sex it's still love, to fall in love isn't wrong and to want companship isn't wrong is it their fault that they are programmed to feel this way. it's not something i think someone can decide conciously it is just who they are. I believe my friend wants to marry his boyfriend it's their own choice. The only things that I wondered about was who would take whose name and who was being the bride.

So love is based on procreation? Marriage has nothing to do with children, but the two adults -who love each other- involved. It's only considered to be disgusting because it isn't common.

Tell me, what disadvantages to other couples come from allowing homosexual marriage? Marriage is a declaration of love, how two people want to share their lives together, yadda yadda. Why not allow the union in the highest standards come from two people? It's pretty much like not allowing a promotion job-wise because of an unimportant trait.

That is largely because of prejudice. Let's not allow black people to get married and see what chaos is created then. Racial prejudice is slowly declining and with it allows blacks more rights. Since there are still a lot of people who are acting out of their prejudice against homosexuality, it is inevitable that such polls will end in a gay marriage defeat.

Homosexuality is NOT a disease. It doesn't spread. However, it is slowly being accepted more and more. This results in there being more homosexual couples and less single homosexuals. Therefore, the heterosexual community does not decline and the same number of people are being born.

And, if you haven't noticed, the birth rate is increasing globally which is inversely proportional to the increase of homosexual acceptance. 10 billion people estimated by 2050 with 6 billion born in the 1990s. Extinction? No.

As can normal, heterosexual couples. Do you really think that stopping homosexual marriage will stop them from having sex? Do you really think that you can catch a disease because homosexuals have sex, you not taking part whatsoever?

My opinion on the matter may be kind of one sided due to upbrining. I was raised in a normal marriage household until the age of 8. My parents then divorced, which isn't all that uncommon. It wasn't until I was about 15 that I found out the reasons they married and had kids pretty much is pressure from both of their parents to live "normal lives" all the while BOTH my mother and father were gay. I ended up growing up with my father until I left the house at 19.

My thought pattern is simply this, what effect does it have on me? If two guys want to marry one another, what difference is it going to make to me, and besides that who am I to tell anyone that what makes them happy is wrong? If people have a religious belief that is against it, then let that effect their lives, not others.

I'm not sure, because I am a Catholic. though homosexual marriage goes against my religion....... well, we can't STOP it, can we? Besides, Im a two year fan of Yaoi, and yuri is totally tolerable to me.

I dont know. I havent seen enough of the world to think about these kinds of things.

Its not a matter of 'spreading'or anything. People are formed asexual, and are gradually conditioned to love one, two, etc genders by society. Its this WORLD that's so against it, but there have to be restrictions. Chaos and madness without rules, you know.
If you want to get married with the same gender, try to accept other religions that believe in the same style, but welcome you.

I second all things said by Fluxiator. My opinion, exactly.

I don't get why being gay isn't allowed in the US (I thought there is a law in some states that forbids gay people to make love). How can love be against the law? The law should in matter of fact encourage love.
I do hate those prejudices about gay people. And all that conservative talk in the US makes me more sick. How can a country that states it's a country to realize your dreams and even more that it is a FREE country when gay love isn't allowed! Talk about being hypocrite. Even my own grand mother, who's 85 and was raised very catholic, isn't against it.

I guess I'm one of the few that lives in a country that allows gay marriages (I live in Belgium) and I can say that I don't know what's so wrong about it. I think it is just great that gay people can get married.
Some of my friends in college are gay and I wouldn't mind going to one of their wedding (if they would be planning one).

I'm not against homosexual marriages.
In Germany and many other European countries, it's
allowed.
And why? Because there is NO reason, why it shouldn't be.
Come on..
those who are complaining about homosexuality being against the will of god are probably the ones who doesn't care about his rules usually.
They just don't like it or don't know it or whatsoever
but they can be no reason for forbidding homosexual marriages.

So, you're basically saying that homosexual marriage is wrong because you think it's icky? Wow. Mature. I'm sorry, but a lot of your credibility is lost when you use that as an argument. Also, would you care to explain why you think heterosexual people are incapable of carrying venereal diseases?

There is no way you can say that love is wrong. What difference does it make whether the two people involved have the same body parts or not?
