I think it is expensive because i've spent about $1000 American dollars on anime
and manga, though i think it's worth it . A long term solution would to get a
membership to a book store like barnes and noble when you get ten percent off of
every purchase.
I've probably spent around 1 000 euros for anime/manga and other derivates...
but most of it was spent on mangas... since I like better read again that watch
again... even though I will like to save money for a travel in Japan.
Yes I think it's a quite expensive hobby but well anyone has his/her
priorities...
Expensive? Not so much. I guess none of you were ever into the R/C cars/planes.
Now THAT is an expensive hobby.
Well, I think if you put it this way, you can learn to manage your spending
habits and still get a kick outta your hobby - for instance, buy used
mangas/DVDs to fill the holes in your older series collections and stuffs.
There's always trading too.
If you see it from that perspective, yes it's not that expensive. But remember,
that there are a lot more people that see this hobby as an expensive hobby,
mainly because they're tight on their budget and or have other priorities higher
than to collect animes and mangas (as almina has said).
As for me, it is an expensive hobby. I always try to keep it down since I have
many other things topping off anime and manga dvds and books.
I spent a few hundred dollars but I download most of the time because I'm one of
the poor people, well sort of. right now I'm saving up for the anime convetion
this month so most likely I'll spend about a hundred or so.
Yeah, it was too xpensive hobbies...especially for student of course...but i'll
just picking up the good anime and manga or DL them. Anime and mangas killing my wallet. Plan a budget so i don't
feel starve.
I don't really care for how much money I spend on anime DVDs and music CDs, but
I keep most of it for important things like bills (I know how to manage how much
I spend). And I happen to work full-time, so it's not much of a issue.
(if so, I can try to save up for big hauls, mostly preorders, but I can limit to
buying 2 DVDs)
And anime DVDs are a bit costly in Canada... only if you find the right place
where you can get discounts. Personally, I prefer to buy second-hand.
Oh my God, its expensive as hell . I dont
got so much money, so I rarely buy something ^^'. Even though I dont buy so much
I rarely have money at all .
My siblings buy quite often. My brother realized that he have spent almost 714
dollars on his collection. I have barely spent... 100-170 dollars . So
ye, they buy often. And ye, its expensive .
Indeed it's expensive, i have spended about 5000 SEK(about 650 dollars) on manga
books.... And i also have how-to-draw books and such for 500 SEK (60 dollars).
But the most expensive is the drawing equipment. The black pencils and such are
not that expensive, but the Copic's are VERY expensive! My copics costs 1500 SEK
(200 dollars) and i'm going to buy new ones for 4500 SEK! (600 dollars) soon. So
if you are going to buy Copics, look out for the price...........
not if you know where to find your anime ^_~
well i guess if you live in the States or in Japan or in any first world
country, you'd probably be right. go to the Philippines. some mangas cost like 3
US dollars a piece (these include love hina and I's and slam dunk). why are they
so cheap? because these animes have not and most likely will never be licensed
here and if they ever will be licensed, they could never sell them at any higher
price because nobody would buy them.
Anime and manga are really expensive hobbies, wherever you go. Next to food and
other necessities, anime turns out to be one of my biggest wallet-busters. But
through time I got to find shops whose prices were lower of that of those in
malls or bookstores. There are also other alternatives, like borrowing from a
friend (and burning the whole thing if you liked the anime), or buying the
cheap, fansubbed, unlicensed anime, which i do agree are a lot cheaper in the
Philippines than on a first world country
totally expensive! i spent all the money that my parents gave to me for
anime/manga... im having fun so i dont hesitate to buy them...but i think i
should controlmyself and buy more important things than this...textbooks or
anything for my studies And
yeah, some anime/mangas in the phil. are cheap ... also other anime items...
most of the items i see is naruto... it's very popular there thats why...
yeah it is...the comic shop wants like 10 USD a manga if they are regular
length...nearly 20 USD for the bigger ones...animes run about 20-30 USD a
DVD...thank god for the Internet huh? I can't afford to buy anime or manga
anymore lol I have an apartment...and all the extra money I have I spend on food
normally haha
it is an expensive hobbie i basically use all my paycheck on anime and mangas.
especially when the store that has the anime you like and some other stores
don't, it always turns out to be the expensive store. i basically used about
$60.00 on two anime dvds.
yes very expensive i only have a few mangas, and one day my mother said to me
"How much money have you spent in those comics?" When i made the plus,
I said to me "from now only the on the tv or from internet"
yes it is a pretty damn expensive hobby for me ive spent loads on my manga n
anime n art books anime ost's at least 200$ a month and sometimes even more so
yea..its relli expensive hobby of mines
Because I have to import so much of the stuff, of course the prices rise, plus I
have a bit of a problem that I always want to expand my collection, even today I
received another £35 worth of DVDs and
Manga, and I'm already expanding my wishlist with some new series, damn you
Clamp, why do your stories have to be so damn good.
Considering I'm also a huge video game fan and own 6 systems (with a 7th
probably coming soon) and I love to read books, spreading out my finances
between the 3 is not easy. I dread when I end university and have to pay taxes.
Shebes isn't sure about the rest of you, but anime/manga isn't a hobby but a way
of life. Spending money on anime is as necessary as spending money on utilities.

I do not want to think about how much I have spent. I usually stock up when I find them on sale or a store is going out of bisness.
totally expensive! i spent all the money that my parents gave to me for anime/manga... im having fun so i dont hesitate to buy them...but i think i should controlmyself and buy more important things than this...textbooks or anything for my studies

yup, its a very expensive hobbie and i have completely lost the count of how much i have spent so i prefer to not think in that ooU...

Yeah I guess it is I forgot how much money I use all together but the last convention I was at I used over 100$ for what i wanted.
Because I have to import so much of the stuff, of course the prices rise, plus I have a bit of a problem that I always want to expand my collection, even today I received another £35 worth of DVDs and Manga, and I'm already expanding my wishlist with some new series, damn you Clamp, why do your stories have to be so damn good.

I dont mind buying manga... i figure if i watch the subs and its a good anime i should get the manga... I enjoy re-reading most of my mangas ^^
Shebes isn't sure about the rest of you, but anime/manga isn't a hobby but a way of life. Spending money on anime is as necessary as spending money on utilities.
Ofcourse it is an expensive hobby. Because of anime my electrical bill went high. *I watch anime via internet*
