looks like cosplay's really popular nowadays. people get to become their
favourite characters. but there's a trend, that is 'crossplay' among the
cosplayers, where girls dress as guys and guys dress as, uh, girls? ew. i don't
mind if it's a pretty guy, but imagine that someone with arnold schwarzenegger's
body(big and bulky) dressed in Yuna's(FFX2) costume, really looks insulting to
the characters he dress as.
well for me, that guy in a girl's dress better be real nice looking, so at least
i won't know it....
for example:
SERIOUSLY THIS IS A GUY!
At least this way i wont scorn them for spoiling my fav characters.
just a few years back there was a legion of pot belly bastards who went public
in sailormoon outfits...and all of them are hairy, smell like stale beer, oh
well you get the message.
Girls are ok, because generally a lot of the girls can do cosplay for male
characters like those from shoujo manga which are generally more beautiful than
manly anyway, I once saw a good example of Air Gear's Agito dressed up by a
girl, and she looks just like the real thing too. So females yes, males...you
guys better look like it or else....I will burn you alive.
I find crossplayers inspirational myself. They're making a statement that the
general society today dosn't openly accept people that crossdress. Which is
true, I myself don't see the problem with it. Girls dress like guys on a daily
basis, why shouldn't guys have the right to wear a dress or skirt if they feel
like it? I don't find it offensive at all, but then again I'm usted to it.
Cosplaying itself is artistic expression as I see it, and with that I don't
think that someone should be limited to how far they can let their imagination
go.
If a guy decides to crossplay and looks good or passible I'd urge him to
crossplay more often.
but i am all for supporting cosplay normally, just plain cosplay is good enough,
usually girls can do both sides, but when it comes to guys you can hardly find
one who is good enough to look feminine like the one i shown.
I like it when they are playing the roles that are their own gender. This way,
like this Renji, looks damn cool and real.
I prefer the real thing than cosplaying, but cosplaying is technically fun.
Haha. Ironic. xD
I've never tried hands-on experience with these costumes before, never even
tried and I really would like to do it.
Anyway, that picture that Devildude posted. Oh my a guy? X3 I cannot see the
difference! And that skin is so good~! Wow, I'm impressed, really.
Crossplaying's fun, I would like to crossplay too. But well, beer belly guys
wearing Sailormoon outfits are not a pleasant sight.
lol how lovely crossplay! I have gyu friends who cosplay girls and they're
really good O_o and me yes i do crossplay it's fun I like getting glomped by
girls....even though I'm a girl lol
More pics of our lovely crossplay
dude...seriously anyone knows the name of this fella? He is really helluva nice!
though i think i am going gay.,...lol
Now if you all noticed, he never posed in a way that reveals his adam apple.
Strange but believable indeed.
um, Devildude, i would be better if you send post pictures of other
crossplayers. so that there would be comparison between a good crossplayer and a
lousy one.
So the pink-haired person is a dude... @_@
Thanks, DD, that's just what I wanted to see.
*cough* I think I turned slightly green from jealousy. He looks better than me
as a female. *cough*
In general, I really cannot approve of the guys dressing up as girls aspect of
what julian1 has so cleverly termed "crossplay" because the practice
is as a whole disturbing. That the cosplayer that Devildude has so generously
provided pictures for is male is, in a word, disturbing. However, as any of us
who have ever gone to cosplay conventions can attest to, few males cosplaying
females do so nearly a convincing job at portrying females, and in those
instances.
that's a pretty darn good example, shisengumi... i really need to claw my eyes
out, then wash it. i also need some brainwashing, or else i'll be getting
nightmares...
my friend is a crossplayer, and MAN SHE'S SO PRETTY!
no one would think that he is a boy!
oh maaan... and i've seen a girl who crossplay very well,
i almost fell in love with her! oh maaaaan... world's crazy..

Case in point: the infmaous ManFaye.
Here, I don't think that "disturbing" cuts it. I would use something along the lines of "oh geez, I need to go claw my eyes out now."
that's a pretty darn good example, shisengumi... i really need to claw my eyes out, then wash it. i also need some brainwashing, or else i'll be getting nightmares...
To add more fuel for the "few guys can crossplay well" side.

ew. losers. they should play as barret of FF7. no offense, but they should be able to play barret well.
my friend is a crossplayer, and MAN SHE'S SO PRETTY!
no one would think that he is a boy!
oh maaan... and i've seen a girl who crossplay very well,

In general I don't mind crossplay because of the conventions I've gone to, but I do agree there is a line that people don't want crossed.
To shinsengumi-san, if ManFaye looks horrible in pictures, I hope you never EVER see him in real life. >< (first time at AX for 2005~~ T~T)
