Doesn't understand does not mean you can't listen to it. As long you enjoy what
you listen to that's enough. I my self listens to japanese music just like all
of you. I don't understand a single word that come out, but ienjoy myself.

amazing, i can smell your ignorance through my computer screen.
thank you for throwing out another ignorant comment about rap music without
probably knowing jackshit about it beyond the usual commercial spoonfed 50 Cent
and Chingy bull.
very true, not all rap is generalized as to what equinox has so blatantly
disregarded.
there are, and still do some rap artists that make decent songs.
Do not generalize music simply by saying it is "horrible" when you
know next to nothing of music in that genre.
Speaking of which, why should you not listen to music in a different language?
does it matter? What difference does it make if you listen to it? as long as it
is music
I listen to Jpop/rock all the time, I am currently in the process of learning
the language and listening to the music helps a ton! Though I've been listening
to if for alot longer than that.. Like what you like, and if people have a
problem with that, tell them to kiss your (o)shiri... Yep, think that means butt
:P
I love variety...and I really love to listen Jpop/rock. I do love to listen
Tagalog, Chinese, Korean and Thais song. But i don't mind listening English
songs too. I'm not too fussy abt other languages, as long as it good for
my ears .
Quote by RazorPhoenixThere are
plenty of reasons why i listen to Japanese songs...
I'm not Japanese but the main reason why i listen to Japanese songs mainly
because i just i like the language and would assist me in learning the language
better since i'm also taking class for it...Also, since i've lived in Japan
before, by listening to the words makes me feel nostalgic. Furthermore, being an
anime fan its kind of odd to not to listen to the songs...
:p
I agree with razorphoenix. I too am learning japanese and anime music is
a great source of information, not to mention pleasent to hear.
I listen to J-music because it's good and because it makes me smile. Even if the
translations reveal the lyrics to be sad, I smile when I listen to J-music. The
lyrics matter, but I listen to the vocals and the instrumentation, and if both
are good, I smile.
I get that question a lot, funny thing is the people asking me like english
musica without even knowing english so I don´t see why
it´s so damn hard for them to get it, we
don´t need to understand the lyrics music can be enjoyed
just the same, there are lots of songs with lyrics that make no sense, and even
if we understand the language, the whole song means nothing, just words being
sung by the performer, they ask it mostly cause of the fact it
ain´t common for them to hear japanese or korean music as
much as it is with other languages
j/k/c pop have some of their own cultural influences in the songs, i just listen
to those cause i think oriental asian languages sound the best in song, im half
chinese and i listen to canto/mando pop its also to pick up more chinese aswell
as enjoyment, but ppl always ask me why i listen to asian music, and if i can
understand..so annoying, but in hk and china, on channel v and mtv they always
play mixed music from singpore, korea, jap, hk/china, western countries
also when i listen to asian hiphop, like mchotdog, lmf etc, ppl always say it
sucks, but they are wrong and ignorant and just dont apreciate the hiphop that
isnt american
I listen to some music because of the lyrics and the other because of beat so i
know i might not know the lyric for Japanese music but some of them have a
wicked beat.
Quote by tandkzyThat a problem . though i
don't like japanese people , i like a lot of animals from japanese . Some thing
got no reason .
eh?
I find that Japanese music tends to be a lot more upbeat than Western music. I
got quite bored of the stuff that was being released in the US and UK, so I
wanted to listen to something fresh and I found J-music. Lyrics aren't really
that important to me, it's the melody and rhythm that make the song.
I think I see voices more like another musical instrument. So I don't really
care if I don't understand the lyrics if the song sounds nice to me.
That's why I don't have problem listening to j-pop. I'm also one that needs a
little time to like a song so being introduced to music by watching anime or
playing games increases my interest.
i dont really know why. i think most of the j-music is special and its hard to
find such melodies anywhere else. i just like them and it doesnt matter to me if
i understand the lyrics or not as long as the melodie is ok
and excuse me... have u ever listen to this quote?
"music is the universal language"
the fact of being of a country that doesnt mean that u should ONLY listen to ur
music. i think is kinda ignorant:S
music exists for a reason... is like free of expression.
I'm dominican, my country music is MERENGUE, merengue is in spanish, but i
listen english, japanese, french, italian music... no matter the music gender. I
enjoy listen to good quality music.
Becouse it's the best music and it's much better than any music that is in radio
in my country. You don't belive what kind of shit they can play and every
channel. To speak truth noone of my friend like it. There is a saing in my
school only "wannabie teinixs"(those who want to be cool and adolt
like when they are 10.) are listen that shit that comes from the radio and it's
truth.
It's totally true that people have double standards. I have had so many people
who I know have enjoyed Spanish language songs (and don't speak Spanish)
criticize me for listening to Japanese music. Like for example La tortura by
Shakira that song was so popular on the charts in America and I know most of
those people probably didn't understand what was being sung. They need to
realize that just because it's not a latin based language doesn't mean It's any
weirder for me to listen to than what they listen to... :/
for me it just sounds cool ... and the music they make is really cool ... you
could change the question to "if you're not american why do you watch
american shows?" its the same thing ... except we understand the language
... know what i mean?
Whoa, easy on insulting other genres of music. Like art - actually it IS art -
there's not single cast as to what defines it.
Music itself is a language. My younger sister likes classical, and I enjoy
listening to it with her. However, I know nothing about reading music, what a
fricking arpeggio is, or the difference between classical and contemporary. In
fact, you can say I am musically deficient!
This doesn't hinder my ability to enjoy it, though. It might help for a deeper
appreciation, but just having a quick-paced Jpop beat lift my spirits once in a
while is as 'deep' as I need it to be.
So yeah, not much of the stuff I've said so far qualifies as an answer.
So why listen to it? Well, why not?
Heh, fortunately for me the only one that has ever asked me this is my sister. I
usually just tell her, "Why do you listen to music about degrading women,
violence and drugs?" then she replies with a "Because I like it".
Think she answered her own question there
i think some people have problem with people like us (those who are into anime
and manga) litsening to japnese music and "pretending" to be a jap,
and i think thats just bias. many non english speaking countries listen to
english music, and no one have problems with that. is it because english is more
of a universal language than japanese so its acceptable?

ROFL you know what bro, i feel so sorry for you, cos youre missing out some
really good stuff, and even ignorance requires knowledge, for that comment, i
can tell you have no idea what real music is.
If it sounds good, I'll listen to it regardless of the language its in.
Most of my extended family live overseas, and many of them don't speak english
(especially on my Dad's side). Yet the last relative to visit was a big Robbie
Williams fan, despite not speaking any english.
Haha, sounds like something my parents would say...
Well, since I was into anime, I listened to anything Japanese almost. But over
the years, I'm getting pickier, I tend not to download OST's from Anime, I find
the music is usually lame, baby-sounding. I go to a lot of j-pop or asian music
forums, so I learn about the latest releases from Japan and Korea. Needless to
say my collection of music has doubled over the years. Every now and then if I
really like the artist (like Ayumi Hamasaki), I'll buy their album off YesAsia. I find most japanese artists have
class in their work, and a different style of music from what I'm used to
hearing. Sometimes they'll even have these 80's sound to it, like in Tommy
february6. (For some odd reason even though I was really young then, I like
hearing 80's music). Let's not forget about their famous jrock .. visual bands,
where they really go to the extreme of looking scary, yikes!
American pop sounds all the same I find, and the lyrics are really disgusting to
listen to for the most part. The music isn't great either, same old beat and
silly sounds. For the most part I like a softer kind of pop, Boa Kwon is a good
example. She does lots of pop and ballads, I find she has an awesome voice. Back
when, they used to compare her to Britney Spears, which I found ridiculous. I
mean, Boa can really sing, and her lyrics are so much better, not to mention her
songs. Boa was also known for her dance moves, though she still has it, haha. I
also like it that she dresses with style, not showing off all her body like some
... --cough-- you know.
Either way, I enjoy hearing music from all around the world. When I do listen to
English songs, it's usually from Europe. People just listen to what they like,
language now is not an issue, since we're more culture diverse.
Personaly i find j-pop is American music but a few years behind. That's not true
for all of it but for what i had heard for awhile, later i was able to find more
music that had been modifyed to the Japanese culture. One of the artists that i
know and have enyjoyed is, Ayumi Hamasaki. The best song of hers is "Still
Alone"...I've had that song for awhile now and io still love it.(if u have
ear buds and turn up the volume, u wount be able to get the ringing out of ur
for some time after ^^') Over time i've only got a collection of a gig of
japanese music...but i'm workin on it.
Doesn't understand does not mean you can't listen to it. As long you enjoy what you listen to that's enough. I my self listens to japanese music just like all of you. I don't understand a single word that come out, but ienjoy myself.
