i need some help here please!

I think you should try to clean out your files.. I don't remember because my uncle help me get rid of my virus two time.. it was called hound? somthing like that. but some viruses get to your folders.
But don't beilve me entirely.. I'm not a CPU expert. I'll try asking my uncle. He's a genuis! ahah he is!

You need to get antivirus software, not something that runs off a web page. You should pick up Norton or McAfee they should run autorun and do a scan before installing to remove any virii.

you can try Antivir before you go out an buy a program.

Antivirus/Antispy

If you have files on D:, reformatting won't affect those files.

Also, I doubt right now the virus will let you install any antivirus software. The best thing to do would be to download a preboot environment, clean the virus there, backup your important files, and reformat. Google for some preboot environments that include virus scanners.

you should just reformat the comp fixes everything hehe ^_^

omg i have 45 GB of anime in my computer it is on D: opening this forum is hard with this virus i need to DC my connection 1st and then click on this link then THE massage "Cannot find server" then i connect my ISP then refresh this site so i can view this page every time a virus see anything about virusesand its f..... hard darn it anyone after clicking this post it will be terminated i my comp darn it T_T life is hard for me but thank god the OL games is still working fine T_T i feel like crying

Ugh, I'm not a real expert, I just know this person... He said something about just refresthing the whole computer, and there is a way to leave your data... He did it to my computer, its working better than ever and I still have my old folders... If no one here can't do it, find a pro ^_^

AVG Free works wonders. Gets the job done in terms of keeping your computer virus-free. And better than Norton, which is a resource hog.

a) Anti-Virus Software and clean out the virus
b) Burn the "important" files on to a CD or DVD and format both the drive
c) Leave it and get a new computer

When your brother plugged in his MP4? What brand, model?

I find it amazing how some people get virii...I have been using computers for...I dunno better part of 15 years now and I have NEVER had a virus on ANY computer I have owned...and I very rarely have used any kind of Antivirus software. I think the biggest thing is, dont download software from strange places, dont go to web pages you aren't sure of scan emails before opening them (hell, I dont even run anything that EVER comes attached to an email doc.) You have to be really carefull with all the malicious software there is now a days, dont download any software that will automatically download or update without notifying you.

I thought Norton, when I installed it onto my computer recently, automatically booted off the cd and ran the program, scanned for any virii before installing, and put them into a quarantine so the new install wouldn't be infected. If that is the case like I said, I would still after you install Norton, backup all your files after you have scanned them all, and reformat your HD.

You can try to create a new administrative user profile in Windows. This can circumvent virii that ride temp folders and so on. Once you get the new profile loaded, try running a scanner of some sort on your drive. Do not use Norton or MacAfee, plain and simple. For a free online scan you can try TrendMicro.com. You may not be able to run it depending on the virus, so you can try the downloadable demo or AVG as suggested before.

mp4s shouldn't do anything to your computer....try restarting your computer ..that might help..

can't believe when people think their computers are kinda slow...it's a virus.....chill out...

try getting Adaware and start removing spyware on your computer....that might be the problem...

if that doesn't solve it...defragment your hard drive and run another anti-virus check....

hopefully that solves it

freyy, as an expert I will recommend:
if you are afraid of losing your data, you should try following:
- eject your HDD, install it into a health computer with installed antivirus as second disk.
- run operating system on second computer (not from your HDD), and check your disk with antivirus.

If you have no possibilities to do as described above - try installing antiviruses on your own computer. Some of them shurely will not be installed - virus will not let them to do so. But you can find antivirus, that your virus are not aware of: f-prot, for example. Panda Antivirus, Titanium Antivirus and so on...

If it don't help - reinstall your operating system, loading from cd-rom, and formatting your disk c in process. Then right away after installing OS, install antivirus and immediately scan all your disks. You should intall OS on C:, and format only C: - then your D: will not be affected.

ok i have the virus info if anyone know to get get rid of this please tell me

Virus Info:
Virus name: WORM_BRONTOK.DB

Aliasnames: None
Platform: Windows 98,ME,NT,2000,XP,Server 2003
First occurence: Not specified

This memory-resident worm propagates by sending a copy of itself as an
attachment to email messages. It gathers target email addresses by searching an
affected system for files with specific extensions.

The email message it sends out is written in Bahasa Indonesia. It has the following
details:

Message body

--Spizaetues Cirrhatus--
1.Penjarakan Korruptor,Peyeludup,Tukang Suap, & Bandar NAKOBA(Send to NAKUSAKAMBANGAN)
2.Stop Free Sex,Aborsi, & Prostitusi (Go to Hell)
3.Stop pencemaran lingkungan,pembakaran hutan & perburuan liar
4.SAY NO TO DRUGS

Attachmet:(Any of the following)

*CCAPPS.EXE
*KANGEN.EXE
*MY(...) avoids sending messages to email containing strings that are mostly
related to anti virus and security companies. This worm avoids addresses with such
strings to prevent its early detection on the compromised system.

On system running Windows NT , 2000 , XP , and Server 2003, this worm overwrites
the HOSTS file located at %System%\drivers\etc with an .HTML.file. The said action
prevents the affected user from accessing certain Web sites. Furthermore,
this worm restarts the affected system if it finds an open window with certain
strings in the tittle bar.

anyone who knows how to get rid of this please tell me thanks

tried an antivirus program? i think all antivirus programs (the free ones too) are able to handle that virus.

Quote by freyyomg i have 45 GB of anime in my computer it is on D:

Like I said, reformatting won't affect your D: drive at all. Installing a fresh copy of an OS on C: leaves D: completely in tact. However, if the virus has spread into D:, you'll have to clean it out from there too, possibly having to reformat that as well.

Uhm when you get a virus its important to disconnect all backup drives immediatly.
Next disconnect all networking hardware.

Then just lett your virusscanner kill it.
After its removed connect the backup drives again and also scan them for the virus.
Now scan all other computers on the local network and then connect them again.

Thats pretty mutch the only effective way to do this type of stuff.

Trash or reformat the HDD. And I don't think you can reformat the drive. The virus is embedded deep in your OS start up programs, maybe in your systems BIOS. When you said that your computer is running C++ programs before Windows can start is a clear indication that your OS is infected; no antivirus programs can run before your operating system. The only way you can reformat the HDD is to run you copy of Windows directly from the CD! There is a possibility that you can copy over your old Windows and it might delete the virus embedded in the startup programs. However, that might not work either. The reason is as soon as the new OS starts, it may start up that virus too. So that takes me back to what I said the first time: trash the HDD and buy a new one. If you use another computer (called Remote Assistance), chances are you might infect that computer too, just as that mp4 did to your computer.......

MP4? He must have a video player..... do your computer have the software program to accept his MP4 player? Do you have any antivirus programs at all on your computer? (some antivirus programs will scan external plugins for viruses) I ask this because if he has this player, then his computer may be infected too! If not, then the player somehow affected Windows......most players comes with software that allow Windows to function properly. If not the system will lock up.

This MIGHT help:

If you can get Windows to start, go to Safe Mode by pressing F8 (i think cause mines is different) From safe mode, go to your Task Manager by pressing ctrl+alt+del. Now there is two ways you can go:

You can go to the Processes tab and scroll down each Windows function. In safe mode there should be only three or four process running; System, system idle process, explorer.exe and possibly rundll32.exe. Anyway, look for the .exe files you mentioned (CCAPPS.EXE and KANGEN.EXE). If they are in the Processes tab then end the process (you know, highlight and click on "end process").

Or you can go to your search function (it still might work in safe mode) and do a search for the file %System%\drivers\. If it finds the file, delete it completely and restart Windows. It might work.....might. I found two Adware programs that my anti virus program can find but couldn't delete. These files were embedded in the cookies of the computer. I had to dig through a lot of folders to reach those infected file and delete them.

Actually their are AntiVirus programs that can.
Like F-Prot. Try to remove malicious entries from autoexec.bat in your root drive.

And formatting should help. Just make sure you remove all the partitions and not just erase them in the partition table.Shred them.

Most BIOS chips can protect themselves from a virus tough.

there's an open source anti virus it is called clamwin
http://www.clamwin.com/

There is another way , kill virus in dos .

As for brontok, search for the internet: "Brontok Washer". Made by Indonesian ppl, like me.

Searchin the virus won't work if the virus deleted the antivirus (such virus exist, i'm not joking). The best way, is to make a HDD to 2 part. Back up the important things in the second part, and reformat it if any other methods didn't work.
