Too popular? No. Over-rated? Good lord yes. I've tried to read them, I've tried so hard to like them, but the woman just can not write. Besides, children have no business reading some of the themes she puts in those books...large portions of text are written for teen+, but that's shoved in-between drivel that an eight-year-old would find boring and formulaic. It's nice that it gets kids to read, but so does Dr. Seuss. And, no, people who think it currupts kids with the occult have no idea what they are talking about. They aren't evil or anything, they just aren't any good. Maybe my standards...and those of my neice and two nephews...are just set too high.

Harry Potter is too popular. That's why I don't like it. And I've never liked fantasy/magical thingies...

I HATE HARRY POTTER SO HE CAN GO TO HELL !

In Russia he is popular enough in us
You go in the underground in institute so you see that many him I read
I have read all books
And that very interesting book

I personally hate that jerk! hes such a fag if he hasnt made out with that babe hermioni yet i really qestion his sexuality!

I'm not a big fan of Harry Potter, I'd have to say....but still, I think that it's being overcommercialised (eh, is that a word?). Way too much.

Quote by RebuThe people who hate Harry Potter are usually believe kids using magic is the work of the devil, but they ignore the number of kids and parents who are learning to read in order to read these books.

i hate harry potter. many ppl say i look like him, and i've given an autograph to a little kid once (he was like 8). anyways,

"magic is the work of the devil"

i think you should see my room. i think that devil once dwelled there and just gave it to me.

"but they ignore the number of kids and parents who are learning to read in order to read these books"

I dont know exacly what you mean there but i dont think that parent are learning to read, or if they are learning to read then they shouldnt start with a harry potter book.

and to respond to the thread. yes harry potter is overrated and overused. i think that one book and one movie was enough.

Hmmm... the bible is almost as popular as Harry Potter.
Yup it is popular allright.

I was a little obsessed with Harry Potter only when a movie or book came out. I think it's popular only when a new movie/book comes out cause it's in stores and like big poster signs everywhere...yeah.

I really hate the movies. They are shit because:

A. Daniel Radcliffe (the little snot that plays Harry Potter) can't act to save his life
B. The films are so poorly done that you pretty much HAVE to read the book to understand what the hell was happening in the film.

I enjoy reading and I was a fan of the earlier books, but the most recent ones disappointed me a little and I'm finding the Harry Potter character a lot more annoying now. Way too much teenage angst... I get enough of that from anime shows and my younger brother :P

It's OK. I just think Harry Potter is overrated.

It's not TOO popular. It just goes to show that everyones an idiot. Harry Potter allways has, and allways will suck. :)

Never got into it.

And I happen to dislike Harry Potter mainly because of the over-ratedness, movies (ONE is just enough, thank you) and merchandising.

It does seem that it's getting a bit too popular. It's really kinda annoying for some diehard fans to hear one of those people who have only seen/read the first or second parts who claim that they 'know everything about HP'. I don't hate the series, but I hate people who claim they 'know everything' about something they hardly hear about.

i hate harry potter well thats my opinion =] i dont mind if other people like it, it does seem a little too popular .. kinda makes me wonder

I think that ever since the Harry Potter series became super hot and popular, there has been a bunch of HP products showing up on the shelves of stores. I personally don't enjoy HP as much as I did back when I first picked up the 4th book. It feels like J.K.Rowling is letting all this fame and fortune get to her head so now she feels that she does not have to write the series as good as it was compared to the previous books. To me it feels like with each book, the story is just getting more and more ridiculous and even bizzare. It's a pity that such a great series started going downhill when it got too popular.

oh That HAIrY POFTA. PFFTTT he is well known but not in my books.... stuff you harry pofta freaks....

Theere are many good but not popular books - why not populat cause no one( except few people) even knows that such a book exists. Media ( internet, tv, newpapers) are writing, saying only about Potter cause in my opinion Potter is like a Pokemon Young children love Potter and their parents must buy everything that includes Harry( just like Pikachu).

Eh...the Pot Man is a bit overrated.

the movies are definately way too popular and overated. id rather watch some crappy soapy on tv. but i reckon that the books are decent. i read a lot more complicated stuff now but still like to read the books.

Too popular? No, it's either good or it isn't, popularity is a non-issue as you can determine it's quality for you and you alone. Is he overrated to you? Of course, if you dislike something and many others like it then you're going to see it as overrated regardless simply because you're in a minority and don't see eye to eye with that majority. "Overrated" and "too popular" are just simpler ways of saying you disagree with a majority, why should it matter if others like it or even "make you wonder"? I'm sure many people look at anime fans and it makes them wonder, it's simply a matter of tastes, they differ from person to person, one ofthe beautiful things about having free thought.

I hope the new book will have at least 600 pages ^^

In the beginning, it looks like a kid's story. But, since the fourth book, is a teen story for sure. Violent, sometimes. But really nice. I really like HP. And there are kids who likes reading because of that book. So I think Harry Potter, kids stuff or not, is a good thing. If a book can make kods get interrested in culture, I thinks it deserves some credit.
