I honestly have to know, does anybody besides me get just plain annoyed with the
overuse of chat symbols, acronyms and that freaking '1337' crap? I know that the
acronyms were made to make online chatting easier and quicker, but don't you
think it's just to the point of overused. LOL has no meaning to me whatsoever
anymore, as I see people all the time who use it after every line today. You
could honestly say "Yea my mom died today and I found out I have incurable
cancer", to which they would reply "that sucks lol <.<"
Maybe I'm just a bit to proper when I talk online or post even on forums. I'll
admit that sometimes I don't use the proper punctuation or capitilization, but
at the same time you aren't going to catch me using ROFL all the time either.
Isn't it to the point where its just becoming a nuisance as opposed to fun
anymore? It makes it almost unintelligible.
Seriously am I the only one that this just annoys or are there others out there
who want to stand up with me and say "I will not say roxorz my boxors...
EVER"? I want to know other peoples thoughts on this and to know if you
agree or not. And I swear if I see a chat face or 'Pw3nd' usage that isn't used
for legitimate conversation, I will hate that person forever more.
As for people actually using chat lingo in real life conversation, that is a
whole other beast....
Hmm... I can see your annoyance with this. While it doesn't really bother me
that people use symbols and acronyms online, I must say that I don't always know
what they mean. Sometimes I feel out of the loop because there's something funny
going on, and I'm completely lost. I think they're used so often because it's a
faster and quicker way to say what they want. Personally, I try to spell
everything out and talk as I would in person. However, occasionally I catch
myself using them once in a while. I admit I overuse the smileys...
I don't use the LOL and 1337 speak, cause they're just plain stupid. I hardly
ever use shortcuts in typing either (u instead of you). How much time do you
really save by typing out u instead of you?
It kinda does get anoying if ppl use these symbols and their "LEET"
language so frequently. I dont even use it and I think its that bad. I'd rather
talk or type normally as if I was actually talking to sumone. I wouldn't go up
to sumone and say "dude, dat game roxxors" or "dat's
l33t(leet)!" there are times I use abbreviations though like lol kuz I get
lazy and dont want to type out the whole laugh out loud thing on the keyboard.
Don't blame the 1337 and their un-intellectuality. Saying lol is what they do
regardless of the situation, although I do find it repulsive, if not obviously
stupid. I think it's the new 'like' or 'OMG', one of those words that always has
to like be repeated like.
I must admit that I'm guilty of using lol just
because it's hard for me personally to convey whether I'm happy or not but
that's about the only short-cut I take. I try to capitalize every first word in
a sentence, maybe it's because I learned how to type in a class rather than on
my own. I do understand the majority of those shortened words but when it's
really late and I'm tired, talking to someone who uses it all the time, I'm
always saying "What?" And of course they get all mad when they have to
type out the entire word. I think it also has to do with how well they type too
because I talk to a lot of people who type really slow.
Hey it's not a crime and ppl started to use this because it's way more faster to
type in chats and it's more entertaining than boring eng. Except for the number
parts like 1337 i only use short forms and some normal emotions like cuz u
can express urself more wit these symbols.
While I rarely use flawless grammar and punctuation online, I write in such a
way that people aren't reading a veritable stream of words with no end or break
in between. I figure that seeing as I can type fast enough that putting as much
in as I can, I may as well do just that. It irritates me to no end when people
start shortening words not to make them faster to type, but simply because they
think it makes them look "cool". Who knows, maybe I'm just an elitist.
I like symbols like ^^ >> and
so on because they espress the feelings of the person that is writing!
When you talk to a person he can understand better what you say because he can
listen to your tone of voice and see your face! But when you write you can't
really make the other person understand how you feel!
For example! A person asks: do you like my new wall!
If you answer: Is ok but the background is too simple!
The answer lools very hard and rude!
If you answer: Is ok ! But
the Background is too simple !
The person understand that you are saying it in a nice way !
Leet used to be cool, back in the day's of Usenet, the late 80's, before the
internet got stupid. It originated as a way for real hackers to bypass government text parsers. Ever since AOL
it's just gay.
AOL-speak really gets annoying if people use it too much. People use it a
shortcut because they can't type well, but in reality it's just slowing/stopping
their acquisition of typing skills.
Leet is less annoying, which may be in part because I see it less. Some terms
like warez and own are very useful in talking about computer stuff. I used to
make a point of making fun of l33t all the time and still sometime sat
"____ is t3h suck", which is more of a parody on the common typo of
teh instead of the which seems to be a common joke on IRC.
While I use that kind of speak very sparingly, I seriously think that shoujoboy
needs to reassess his priorities it these are the kind of things that you let
bother you. Sure they're annoying, but if you start hating people over little
things like this I doubt you'll ever find anyone you'll like.
Lol is the most overused acronym on the net, and it does irritate me from time
to time when every second word is lol, but I don't go whinging about it to
everyone else. I agree that sometimes it does come across unintelligible, but
maybe there is a good reason for that.
So I pretty much would have to say that excessive AOL-speak is a pain in the
ass. L33T on the other hand isn't as irritating, mainly because it has a
seperate meaning to its english equivalent unlike AOL-speak. For example w00t
can't be used sarcastically, so it is often a good substitiute for 'way to go'
if you don't want to be misunderstood.

Do you mean that it's carefree or that it's homosexual? Because I can't quite see either.
I don't use it not anymore, once in a while i will but i feel stupid when i do it's just.... childish, i don't know.
