I think the 2 bands that have the best drums/drummer are Slipknot and Nickleback. Slipknot because they got that double base thing going on, but i also think that they can turn rage into the beat of the drum. I saw Slipknot in Concert last year and their drummer did a drum solo in which he made some pretty sick music, all while the platform he was sitting on was moving up and down, side to side and upside down!
Nckleback got good drums simply because their Canadian, and well their drummer is just naturally talented. When i saw them in concert they had a sweet drum solo too in which the drummer's stage moved forward and shot fire and fireworks while he drummed for about 3 minutes straight XD this guy rocks

I agree that the Slipknot drummer is pretty good (I think in one concert he and the drumkit were attached to a sort of crane that turned them upside down while he was playing!) Impressive but not the best.

You should listen to some Dream Theater and Tool. Both Mike Portnoy (drummer for Dream Theater) and Danny Carey (Tool drummer) have insane timing and skill. Tool is a very progressive metal band and so they use a lot of weird timing in their songs. Listen to Parabola for a taste of their songs. Dream Theater is more old school but still has some progressive metal elements and will rock your socks off. BTW the Dream Theater guitarist, John Petrucci, is a god on the guitar :P

Yeh, i listen to Tool, the one album i own is AEnima (which is a pretty sweet work of art) and i think they got some good skills XP

the best drums?

MARCHING BANDS OF COURSE! ^_~ (polyrhythms ftw! XDD)

(/band geek)

I think Anders Jivarp ( Dark Tranquillity ) did a remarkable jod in the album "The Gallery".

I also like Yukihiro's style ( L'Arc~en~Ciel ) a lot.

Those are my favs.

OH, and Dave Suzuki's ( Vital Remanis ) playing in the album "Dechistianize", i still dont know how a living man can play like that jejeje.

best drums.... Phil Collins is really good, but one of the best drummers is guy from "King Kobra"

Best Drummer?

>>>Slipknot
is the one i'm thinkin' about!

dont u agree? their beat is powerful
Cuz da sound of their Drummer

I Love their beat

Yeah, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater is awesome, it's much more interesting listening to the drums than generic arpeggios and the like ('cept it songs with less that, oh, let's say twenty minutes). However, take a good listen to Shinya from Dir en Grey, he's pretty kick ass (and pretty).

Dream Theater because simple.. MIKE PORTNOY!

Tool's Danny carey or Rush's Neil Pert..nickle back? slipknot? sorry i lol'd

Danny from Tool.....hands down. They've got a new CD coming out next month (which I've got a copy of hee hee). Listen to the song Vicarious.....simply awesome.

Nirvana....Dave Grohl in a landslide....or should I say Foo Fighters....you know what I mean

sweet can't wait till that comes out. I've been pretty bored of the stuff I've been listening to recently. I'm looking foward to a new album to listen to. What's the new album called?

Heya,

Hands down, Neil Peart from Rush, and let ya know, that's Mike Portnoy's Hero, BTW. =P That should tell ya something. Despite, I think Peart is more of Percussion type of person. Still, I think he is on the better ones that is currently alive.

There is a lot of good drummers out there, so it's hard.

Buddy Holly, Ginger Baker (I think they started the long insane long drum solo's, well, Cream), and a few others that I can't recall off hand. That's where I said it's hard, for everyone has different style, and it's hard to choice besides coming down to fave thread. =/

My thoughts,

To me it's more about the drummers ability to come up with a suitable and original beat for a song rather than an ice age long solo. Portnoy is a true musician through and through, he co-writes a good portion of Dream Theater's songs and always comes up with great drum riffs.

Edit: I just watched a bit of the Neil Peart vid... dayum! he's a great percussionist! I'd say he's better than Portnoy when it comes to solo performances since Portnoy tends to just bash the drums when he solos whereas Peart actually plays a song. Fantastic stuff, thanks for sharing

Travis Barker is pretty good though I don't really like Blink 182 now.

Dream theater for skill
children of bodom for talent
opeth to replace tool
wintersun for speed

listen to "the grand conjuration" by opeth. tis a cool song

Heya,

Yeah, told ya that Neil Peart pretty much wipe the floor with most current living folks out there. Not sayin' he is the best, but he is one of 'em, that is for sure all right. =P Kinda funny, for Geddy Lee (Rush's Bassist) is like a personal hero (I'm a bassist) and they meld really nice together musically, if you hear other stuff. Granted, it's not as complicated as the solo of course. Still work lookin' into, espically that he that they are pushin' 50+ and been together for 30 some odd years.

Kamelot's drummer isn't to bad, Casey Grillo, but there is a lot better than him. For Portnoy, I agree, he has talent, but I just wish he would play off of it more since he does just tend to bash. Despite, a lot of people makes a good drummer is speed. IMO, it's making a song, just like any insturment that's what shows the talent. =) He has it, just needs to ulitilize it.

I know there was a 12 year old, can't recall his name. But he was like flippin' sweet for his age, and that time. I'm sure he is a lot better now. Anyone know who I'm refering too? BTW, your welcome for the video sharing. =)

Laters,
Ali
