Hmm... hardest RPG? I think I'd have to go with either Jade Cocoon 2 or Dark
Cloud 2.
It's a pain trying to level up your monsters on Jade Cocoon, and it's hard to
get the right egg in order to merge them. I have yet to beat it because I can't
get the ones I need.
Dark Cloud isn't really hard, but I'm a player who likes to get everything, so
all the side quests get in the way of beating it. There's taking pictures,
collecting medals, raising and racing fish, and inventing. So that game will
take a while. XP
But I don't think any are really 'hard'. The battling in all the games I've
played never were too much of a difficulty.
honestly, the newer rpgs don't seem as hard as older ones. have you ever played
Vagrant Story? way too time consuming. unless you use the book, which i hate
doing because it takes the adventure out of a game, you will be frustrated with
trial and error in fighting enemies from your synthed weapons. i haven't beaten
it since i bought it back around 2000 because i have so much to study in college
(chemistry major) and then when you put down a game like that, or say xenogears
or chronocross once you're on the second disk, you spend at least an hour trying
to remember where you left off from a year or more ago, and you just get bored
and put it down.
I say it be Legend of Legaia seriously even if you have the most godly gear and
spells you can easily die in two turns from the last boss. Really pissed me off
how easy it was to beat Legend of Legaia 2.
Likely Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne. It really felt good at the end when your
team is full of godly powerful demons and everything bows at your might. Unlike
actually going through the game where you are one instant death spell away from
seeing the game over screen for the hundreth time today.
probably be umm finalfantasyX..wasnt that the game was hard..its just most time
i dont think ive "finished" a game until ihave completed evry single
of the sidequests and gotten every single item there is..and that for me can be
relli time consuming..especially wen i have no idea where most of them
are....but i finally did finish it..the games really arnt "hard" for
me to beat..there just time consming...the battles were pretti easy for me
though... XP
I think the hardest one was Baldurs' Gate II on the PC...It was so hard to keep
everyone healed up and not dead. Some spells were ruthless as well! Finger of
Death sucked!
Final Fantasy Tactics on the PS1 was definitely one of the hardest I have ever
played. Next would probably be Magna Carta not because of it's difficulty
playing but instead the difficulty of wanting to keep playing it. Don't get me
wrong. I love the CG and the storyline was ok. It was just too boring at times
FF tactics was hard, but not ultra hard as every1 thought it was.FF7 through 10
wasnt that hard either. im talking about games that was even harder on your
second way through them.any 1 in here ever tried the no equip, summons, items,
sphere grid challenges from 7 through 10? now THEY WERE ULTIMATELY HARD! i did
the non-sphere grid challenge and beat the game.......after over 1000 game over
screens.
Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter. Hands down. It makes you think, and if you
even screw up one time, you will pay for it eventually. If you've never played
it, I recommend you doing so. ^_^
Newer RPGs are easier than the old ones. Hmmm...let me see....I say that the
hardest RPG I've played is Chrono Trigger. Even though I've never beat that game
cuz it's very hard. I wanna beat it.
Maybe I'm waaay too old-school here, but I gotta go with FF 1. Yes, the very
first one for the 8-bit NES. I say this because boss fights are hard on most
games, but there you had to pay close attention in even random encounters-
mindlessly hitting the "attack" button just got you killed pretty
quick. Just my $0.02
probly .hack//infection, because there would often be difficult boss battles
after a long dungeon, with no chance to save in between. particularly the final
boss. i never got around to playing the other games though.
to me one of the hardest rpg series is Wild Arms (1-3), it was difficult because
it always have this puzzles u need to figure out in order to continue the game
which sometimes pisses me off trying to figure out how to solve the problem.
Sometimes it took me hours just to solve one puzzle. Wild Arms 4 on the other
hand was a little different though which is not that hard.
the hardest RPG i ever played is a 3-way tie between shining force neo, star ocean 3, and xenosaga episode 2. whats yours?

hmmm I had problems with Lunar 2 lol that game was pretty difficult...those dragons were hard!
Final Fantasy 5 was the hardest for me, especially that damn final boss
haxed FFVII w/ 2 sephiroths at my side and AERITH does not DIE ^_^
Yeah, Final Fantasy Tactics is hard. I can't believe I didn't think of that one!
i think the most hardcode RPG i ever played is legend of mana 1 *y helo thar no savepoint*

hmm need to really think about it.. since theres so many..... but its either the last stage of vagrant story... or shin megami tensei: nocturne....
i think vagrant story is pretty hard too if you don't customize your weapons nicely. if not, you might do 1 or 0 damage per hit to an enemy.
I think Golden Sun and Golden Sun : The Lost Age are quite hard too
