Which do you like better, the Lord of the Rings trilogy in books or in movies?
I prefer the books because they have more depth and have a better character development (especially with Gollum). Movie special effects are nice though, sigh...
I would agree......the books did have a lot more character development.....I especially liked the Faramir and Eowyn story line.......but I liked the battles in the movies.....it seemed to emphasize it a lot more in the movies...which I didn't mind....
First off: I am an avid book reader. Secondly: If I could have managed to have gotten through the books I probably would agree that the books were superior, however, I had to trudge through so much description that I got bored with the books after page 100-and-something. The hobbits hadn't even made it out of the shire by then! So I prefer the movies, and I am totally delighted that very decent movie versions of the books were made so I could finally enjoy the story! Tolkien was a linguist, and not a story writer...which really shows in his story presentation and development, which was very well thought through, just not presented well enough to keep my attention.
i rather watch a movie than to read a book. books are horrible in my opinion. you should see what i do to them. the movie had really good special effects. they movie summarizes the movie into the most important parts and it will definitley keep me more interested.
i like them both!
the war! awesome!
Well I read the hobit it was relly good but I have only seen the movies I have not read the books.
Your reasons are the same as mine, that's why I say I love the movies as well as the books. The movies (at least Peter Jackson's) summarize very well the contents of the books, and with the effects and the music it gives them the depth and the feeling that the books have. In the other hand, the novels are the main essence of this, they explain a lot further for the real and true fans of this story.
This saga is real classic for me, I like both. ^^
Personally, I'd have to say that the books were better, because I like reading so much. There's just so much in those books that I loved! First of all, it's an allegorical fantasy; I like fantasy well enough, but there were so many hidden meanings that some people might not catch in the books, and so many paralellisms...*happy sigh* The descriptions and characterization were so much deeper in the books, though quite accurate in the movies.
But as far as book-based movies go, I'd have to say that the LotR trilogy of movies is very good. A lot of the book-based movies I've seen changed the plot, added in more drama, overplayed on the whole sexuality stuff, portrayed characters in a different way that the book...yeah, overall, they kinda ruin it for me. LotR, however, was quite accurate, minus the whole dramatization of Arwen's role in the stories. Of course, they had to leave some scenes out, and that made me sad, but it's also necessary in order to keep the movies an okay length. Still...I'd like to have seen the battle for the Shire, or how Eowyn and Faramir met (in the healing place), you know what I mean?
You can like the movies without having read the books, but reading the books make the movies seem all the more...I don't know, alive! The music was really cool, I must say, and I loved seeing the characters come to life on the screen (I love Pippin!), and hearing the elvish actually spoken...yeah, definitely cool.
Anyway, I obviously like both a lot, but I'd have to say that the books are, in my opinion, better than the movies. There's somethign about being able to form a picture from the words in my mind that I just love...
I loved the books much better ! J.R.R.Tolkien had definitely a handle on the realm of Middle Earth. While the movie (TLotR) was very good, gotta give Peter Jackson (director) and the actors/ actresses and every one (all deserve a "10" for their efforts !"
While the movie was really good, just remember, U were served "TLotR" on a "Golden Platter" by Peter Jackson. To me, the books are far superior, because when U read a book, U can imagine many things. The movie left out approxiamely 25 %. To me, this was just as important as the other 75 %. The movie was the best works on the "TLotR so far.
I did read the books before the movies, and I know that I love reading so much that the majority of the time, the books will always be liked by me more than any movie, since so much more detail can be put in. However, I do also know that all that detail couldn't possibly have been fitted into the Lord of the Rings movies. I was really impressed with what they did put in, and that they adapted it really well for a modern audience (keeping in mind that the Lord of the Rings books were written in the 1950's). Even that aside, I just really enjoyed watching the movies as a whole, even had I never read the books before.
So for me, I voted both equally good.
I like books and movies too, they are good.I think that the movies were very good made, and I just love Legolas ^_^
I think the film and the books are both equaly brilliant, cant really say ones better than the other. The book had a lot more details and character and events, that were left out in the film, but cant deny the fact that Peter Jackson did too perfected the plot and made the fantasy come to 'live' (really, if he was to put every single encounters into the plot, he might as well resides in New Zealand for the rest of his life.)
i like the movies for the visuals. otherwise the books are better
J'ai vu le film avant d0avoir lu le livre, donc j'ai les images du film qui me reviennent souvent en tête ! Mais j'adore les deux quand même ^^
I saw film before to have read the book, therefore I have the images of the film which return to me often at the head! But I adore both nevertheless ^^
Kisuuuuuu and LoR Powaaaaaaa~
Books are better, Jackson movie is ok, but the book is still one of the very best.
Books, books, books and once again - books! The movies with their beautiful landscapes and spectacular battle scenes were of course very enjoyable to watch, but as far as the plot is concerned... Well... It got worse with every part.
In my humble opinion, that is
I agree with everything you saidç;;book is kind better...
mehhh... I didnt read the books... I only saw the movies... so I like the movies better
... im not into readin books much... so... I dont now if im going to read the
books...
Back when I was a hardcore Tolkien-fan, I used to say I preferred books.
In retrospect I must've been one stupid dumbshit. The books are simply horrible. Not that the movies are that much better, really. I'm having a hard time figuring out why RotK is in IMDB top 250 movies of all time. It's even ahead of Casablanca! What a fucking sacrilege.
I saw the moives and I love the battles scene. I actually like the Nazguls. They were jus so wickedly evil. Anyway after the movie I read the books and I actually finished it all of them. The image I had in my mind when reading it went with well with it. LOTR jus rocks.
The lord of the rings it is classics. It(he) should be loved.
I re-read the book of time 3, but films have looked one time.
That that has thought up Tolkin it something, this imagination the world simply charm.
It seems to me that each person is simply obliged to read it(him).
I prefer the movies. I think the books can be a bit long-winded from time to time. They are nevertheless quite unique though ^^
But I think Peter Jackson really succeeded in making a film of these books. I especially liked Aragorn ^_^
i like th movies, cause i dont have to spend long hours reading the books:), and you actually get a scenerie going on
I prefer the movies. It's really good and plus the acting is awesome. The books are good but they take a LONG time to read.
