The majority of us love the idea of using fancy desktop themes on our PC,
beacuse it looks a lot more stylish than the boring windows default. So just to
add in a little bit of spice. I also like to change the startup sound. You know
the sound that plays everytime you turn on your pc.
I do not since I only reboot the system ever 2-6 weeks. It also doesn't play
startup sounds since the E-MU patch mix software isn't loaded yet during startup
(and sound output requires it). In some ways it's a bit annoying, but that's a
tradeoff of having a HQ soundcard.
normally i just put my compuyer on standby mode insted or turning ti off. save a
lot of time on start up. but from time to time i do need to turn to off or
restart it because of and update or something. i don't really mind the sound,
rather i like it a lot. short simple and a real nice sound. i see no need to
change it.
Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Sounds tab, then scroll down to
Windows Logon or Logoff, plug in whatever audio file you want.
Funny, on my old computer, I used to have Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat going
"you weak pathetic fool!" on Windows shutdown. (I was like 17 then) I
don't have that sound file on my drive right now, but it could probably be
Googled easily.
I don't use startup/shutdown noises. First they slow down the booting/shutdown
process and secondly all they do is wake people up when I forget to mute the PC
before I shutdown, as I often am still on my computer after midnight.
I use no sound scheme, and I suggest you to do the same, 'cause sound schemes
eats processor cycles. It's a matter of savin' machine power to browse the
Internet, crunch numbers and hear The Offspring.
I also use startup sound. It doesn't slow down my booting process what so ever.
If you have a fast pc, then you won't notice a difference. It's a matter of
taste in my opinion.
I'm not using any right now since I want my PC to be more standard on it's
style.
I used to have Boston Legal's theme (short version, the best TV show ever) to
start my pc, and a Stargate short music for shut down.

So i was curious, does anybody else here use a alternate sound, and would like to share?

By the way nice start up sound you have there.

I'm with TSPhoenix. In fact, I have all sounds shut off as I find them quite annoying.
