I tend to think that it pretty much is dead. I don't really know that it died
for any reason other than changing times. Life really doesn't seem to call for
it on a daily basis nowadays. Common courtesy seems to be all that people really
call for. I tend to think I still have some chivalrous qualities about me, but
who knows.
Really shoujoboy?. Everyday I see people holding doors for others (including
strangers), I see people's respect for others, I see people who refuse to let
their principles slide to do the easy thing, etc..., etc......
Dead? I don't think so.
No, I don't think chivalely is dead. I think its sometimes harder to find or
harder to see, but dead implies gone, finished, the end, no more forever. And
everytime someone apologizes to me for spilling a drink (I waitress) and offer
to by me another, that's chivalric. Everytime my boyfriend opens my side of the
car door with his keys before he opens his, I see chivalry. There are so many
people who have that sense of respect that I can't possibly say its dead. Just
buried sometimes beneath cynicism.
I think chilvary itself is dead but the idea of chilvary is very much alive
today because of our actions. Just being courteous to one another is already a
sign of chivalry. Sometimes though, not to be sexist or anything but
"new-age" women dont like this idea of chivalry because it seems like
it undermines their sexuality or something... but besides that, I think chivalry
is still alive
i think true chivalry is pretty much dead. ideals like loyalty, honor, justice,
and such are pretty much corrupted with deceit and greed. Though i agree it
still exists to some extent in common courtesy.
some aspects of chivalry remain, but the whole code is dead because it is
incompatible with the world we live in now, where you must be ruthless to get to
the top. However, that does not mean it is dead in an individual's heart. It can
exist if one tries to carry out those ideals to the fullest extent allowed in
this world. Obviously, there are no longer any fair maidens to rescue or lords
to swear fealty with, but those ideals of loyalty, honor, justice can be
discombobulated into modern times on an individual scale with interactions with
your family, friends, and even to strangers.
It all depends on your POV. It's not that chivalry is dead, it's just at times
we aren't able to see the chicalry in certain actions. Supporters of evil men
see their leaders as chivalrous people. Take a gander in someone's shoes and
understand why, then you'll see the chivalry, but you just might not like it...
i agree with lirinthas although if you have a neutral point of view then you see
the heros as being chivalrous and the evil dictators as being under-handed and
sneaky
It depends on the kind of person you meet; if they have been raised or taught
properly, then chivalry is being/should be performed in small acts-not just the
whole 'fighting off dragons, etc.', but in the way you speak to people, how you
regard them, wether you respect them or not.
However, chivalry is, sadly, dying out with today's youth, particularly with
boys, at least, many of the typical boys I am forced to attend school with.
People may claim it's the testosterone that makes guys "shallow, inane,
angry, etc.", and on the anger bit, I get it, but guys as well as girls
have a lot of issues as they grow up and mature-hopefully-yet they should be
taught at an early age to at least watch how they word their sentances when
speaking to their elders, or at least speaking in general.
I know a few people who are surviving in the modern world, and are still
wonderful, polite, chivalrous individuals.
In a sense, chivalry is dying as long as parents and children decide the simple
behavior of respect for others is something they're too busy, lazy, selfish,
etc., to bother with.
I wouldn't say it is dead just rare. You hardly see anyone being chilvarous
anymore. I held a door open once for a lady with a stroller and she told me I am
the last of a dying breed. It would depend like everyone said who's point of
view you are looking from.
Well, chivalry literally taken is dead ofcourse, since we aren't in the middle
ages anymore. But taken as a metaphor, it is alive indeed. Just depends what
people you meet. I myself respect others and try to be kind to them. And I see
some people like that around, wish there was more but the situations isn't bad
yet.
wow, all of these things r pretty interesting in other points of views! hmm...4
me, i think i see it everyday in some way, i know it may be the modern day 21st
century 2dai, but it aint that rare *4 me anyway, muhaha* so u ppl dont think
its dead, its just rare? ok, i can understand that. with the guy friends im
always with, there is only 2 guys that act very *i'll call it*
knight-like...^_^' i was thinking they both like me, LOL!
I am not sure if its dead.. But I myself practice Samurai Swordsmanship and
Ninjitsu. And sure, I do even though its not an excepted thing. I just grab my
sword (My wooden one, Metal would get me arrested lol) and go down to the park
where there is a lake. and I just practice and train. Amazing on the attention
you grab. Unfortuntaly Chivalry or Bushido, isn't needed any more, because war
has become rather courwardly. U still need to be rather brave and all, but ure
not often getting in there. Your shooting from ages away. So with guns u don't
need to be close, and if sumbody brought back the way of Chivalry then people
would get more a less... wiped out with the power and cowardness of guns.
It's definately not as lively as it use to be. I don't think it's a matter of it
being dead, rather it's just fading as more people become lazy and selfish. As
ignorance goes up chivalry will go down. I enjoy situation where you see the
level in each person such as a bus stop, when the bus comes you can see who
jumps to get on first and who's happy to get on last. A worse test is when i'm
at work in retail, when i get called to open another register in busy periods
you'll see one person run ahead and skip 5 people in a line and you'll see some
people both saying 'no you go first'.
I think chivalry should be taken for granted, rather selfishness should be
noticed. What was once common courtesy has now become a noble act and selfisness
has almost become the norm.
Quote by davidh01The code of chivalry,
with its formality, gallantry, and rigid expectations has fallen aside within
contemporary society, only to be replaced with someone helping someone else
becoming the exception rather than normal behaviour. A bit unfortunate,
that...
True. I also find that girls are more likely give their seats up to oldies than
guys. Just an observation.
chivalry is gay.
it is pretentious.
It is something utterly trying to be cool and so on.
especially if you are practicing to score with the ladies, which does happen in
the "high society" I think it is not necessary, better leave it
dead.
However, it is no way to say I think it is a good pretentious thing, I mean, I
do help people, old men, old ladies who get in the bus looking for a seat, I do
give them up. (I usually stand anyway, I like that rumbling feeling)
and then there is the case with opening doors and so on, I do practice them.
However, it was out of sole education to be good and moral, I find most of
today's practioners of chivalry is no longer honest. Or they are expecting some
sort of reward.
For example, even the service industry, especially of late in the UK, there are
workers in my section (restaurant) who actually hangs around waiting for
tips!
What the hell is the wrong?! I think there is a problem. When people start being
unnatural, something like this should have been left dead.
Chivalry is about spiritual and mental condition that separates a person from
others by his actions, both internal and external. In this modern world, one out
of a billion may have such nature. Well maybe a few more! But it is dead in a
sense. People with no common sense and people with no selfconsciousness are the
types filled with this planet. They just do not have the innate quality to hold
onto chivalry.
By the way, chivalry is just a way to live honorably, as all of us know.
However, the truth is, it is not being chivalrious that matters, what matters is
if you follow the rules that are righteous or not. That makes you kind of like a
chivalrious person.
now i want an honest opinion! just 2dai, it really came out of nowhere
so i was
just thinking!

...But that's just my two cents.
;
Nah, i dont think its dead, its just that the world today has forgotten all about such things...
I sometimes fell afraid of doing such things and sometimes when i do do it it goes unaccknowlendged

It just hard to find these days.
