I just found it in the conner of an old shop yesterday, and after that I
absolutely have no regret...It was...I can't find any word to say.It was the
first time an Anime has made me cry.Yes,the time when I saw Seita holding
Setsuko in his arms,already dead...I just couldn't hold it.Maybe I 'm the
slowest one watching it this late(the orriginal Japanese version was in 1988)but
it's alright,I 'm still happy that I have such a best Anime I ever seen.
Sorry for the long story(actually I want to say more but maybe next time) and I
have a favor to ask:Is there any more brilliant work like "Grave of the
Fireflies"?Just give a tittle or a creator,I will try to find as hard as I
can too.Thank for the help.
It's alright you saw it "this late", I actually watched it this week,
for the first time too. I didn't know whether to love it or hate it, but it sure
made me cry like a baby. It was ... beautiful. I just hoped that they would've
stayed alive. They were so.. so.. Uh. Well, you know. You just grow to love
them.
My brother didn't cry at all, tho. That cold-hearted bastard. ;_;
As I already said...
"One of my favourite movies... it is really, really cool. That poor
child... when I saw it for the first time, I almost cried. Thinking about it
still make me sick. Definitely... one of the most beautiful movies I've ever
seen, but also one of the most cruels."
Seita... Setsuko... T______T
Movies like that? Mh... let's see... what are you searching? I really thought
well of all Ghibli's movies...
Boring, the movie...how can i say this, it seems a little fake and it didnt hold
my interest long at all i had to like force myself to even finish it. So to
finish lets put like this it aint no true Miyazaki film even though he was
associated with it and all. Its was a great peace of work. Well thats that !
Jaa
It is a very sad, movie, TeoAmagari, I serious hope that you considered what the
movie was really about. Not all animes are going to have big meechas and girls
running around like bimbos. This was meant to be a very intense movie, more like
a real war movie rather than just a anime. Its by Miyzaki flim, so there is
meaning. If you want other movies by him, they aren't the same. They run more
toward the common theme of anime. But some of the movies that he did was Spirted
Away, Princess Mononoke (Very good movie), Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind,
Proko Roso, Laputa: The castle in the sky, Totoro (very cute movie), and more, I
just cant think of their names. But if you are looking for more animes towards
this type of theme, its very hard. Most out these days are really all mainstream
in the plots, maybe take a shot at some real movies out there. There are some
excellent movies out there.
I agree, this movie is beautifull.. it actually made me cry when i saw it
aswell.. and no, you are not forgiven for watching it this late! ><
However, for other similar anime movies, um... not gonna happen..
yet.. Studio Ghibli has released great movies by the years.. my favorites is the
following (wich I can advice you to watch):
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind [1984]
Laputa: Castle in the Sky [1986]
Grave of the Fireflies [1988]
My Neighbor Totoro [1988]
Princess Mononoke [1997]
Spirited Away [2001]
Howl's Moving Castle [2004]
They are all somewhat tuching, however, no one matches GotF in the tuch of
creating the ultimate climax ..
(maybe Princess Mononoke will give some effect on you? aswell as
Nausicaä?)
i really like the movie.. it made me cry too...
there are many more anime movies.. but i dun think it like that one
u can try watch masamune shirow anime movies.. it just brilliant...
like the spirited away and howl's moving castle.
u can find the dvd almost in evry anime shop..
It was a powerful movie, and I see what he was trying to do with it, but overall
I really didn't like the movie... it really seemed to lack a lot, or at least
it left a lot to be desired.
i didn't cry at all with Grave All The Fireflies [and think that i'm crying
almost in every series i'm watching!] and i didn't like it either. i don't know
why.. maybe it's the war [i hate wars] but i wasn't really impressed after i
watched it.
i'd heard good things about it... so i decided to watch it...i mean it was ok...
yes very depressing...but not one of my favorite ghibli films... as for
recommendations: yes, almost anything miyazaki, but especially princess mononoke
or nausicaa of the valley of the wind... those two are by far my favorite
miyazaki works.
(and don't think i'm cold hearted b/c i didn't cry, i teared... and i did
understand the movie, it's juss i've read so many books and watched so many
movies on the topic...)

The movie is based off of a book; the actual book is a true story of the
author's childhood and how he lost his sister to malnutrition in the Kobe
bombings. And, of course it's not a 'true Miyazaki film' - it's an Isao Takahata
produced film. Miyazaki is not Ghibli's only producer. I think everyone who
think the movie is 'boring', 'fake', or 'bad', don't actually feel the need to
pay attention to things like fleeting human kindness, the cruel realities of
war, death and hunger, and many other heartstring-pulling conditions. The movie
is not about some whiny teen with a sick sister, as I have heard:
It is a beautiful, bittersweet story about how war can effect the people not
involved with it most of all; innocent children. And, if you don't see that, go
get some emotions. It is a masterpiece that belongs on the list of one of the
best war films in history.

Its a masterpiece. Its beautiful how they can turn something like a candy box into something so sentimental.
i think this is the most touching ghibli movie made.
Spirited away.. wow., I didn't realise -.-
