I would suggest that you just go to a bittorrent tracker and go from there. Otherwise, you might as well just do a search here for 'favorite/best anime' and look at people's responses.

Berserk if you like the kind of the old school animation with lots of blood. Get Backers is a good series with great humor. I have a long list but I wont bore you with it so I'll just stick with these two for now.

Gundam Seed. I think thats the best anime I have ever seen.
the reason :
1. Strong and very logic storyline.
2. ( almost ) all of the songs are very good. I dont like only one song.
3. touchy scenes.
4. good animation, especially when mecha's fight each other.
the scenes are detail enough to show the fight.
5. many conflicting characters, even between friends.
this is very realistic, and oftenly happen in the real world.]
