the sword's blade

okay, looking at everything that has occured in the last 3 years i kinda realised that i really dont think our world is gonna get better...
i dont just mean this in a political way but also in an environmental and ethical way...
i know for a fact that no country in power remains in power for ever and that problems >no matter what they are< can only be solved once the big boys start helping out.
what are your thoughts on the matter, as the next generation?

Well, that's a really interesting question. I think there will be economical problems because computers and machines can work faster and better than humans so there will be more unemployment.
I also think that the climate in moderate climatic areas will become more extreme especially in America because they produce 40% of the world's air pollution. The political situation is now quite unpredictable so I don't want to make a statement to this.

I'll tell you that within only 3 years our world could be jacked up because of the US president, Bush.

well, within 10 yrs, global network which we have right now will be so tight up together that nobody can control their economy as well political choice. I mean that the world would be a domino that if one falls the other will fall with in in economic terms as well as political terms. And government with the spy technology that they have will able to track and trace anyone in anywhere.

in a way you're right but there will always be more qualified person asked to design the machines ... i think the machine sector can also hire a lot of workers. Even unqualified ... machines aren't a so sad thing ^_^.

i'm afraid in ten years there will be a huge conflict to control oil around the globe. I heard that there are some replacement methods which are developed. For example it's possible to turn turkey's excrement into refined oil :) these are fun solutions. I also hope the pollution problem will be taken seriously by the usa and that they won't be that egoist for the rest of times ... i also wish they won't confuse religious and political affairs again ... they play the same game as the radical islamists ... our world is rather ugly but let's see the positive and let's try to make a better world with our litte tiny force ^_^
if the world was like mt everything should be ok

Hmm... seemingly the outlook for the world dim. However, I believe that this won't be the case. I see violance, pain, suffering, poverty and war games, now... among other things... but I believe that there will be a dramatic stop to these evils. Afterall, our generation will one day control the world... keep believing in truth, justice and freedom and these things will come. The world has shed enough blood and filled entire oceans with it's tears... it needs to start turning again... it just needs the right push. Oh, and I think we'll see a greater increase in health, longevity, homosexuals, bisexuals, athiests and agnostics and a severe drop in prejudice. An opened minded and intelligent world awaits.

In the end, all there is, is what exists and what we believe or perceive is true... and there's no distinctions between the two.

I think i speak for most americans on this forum. That if china, japan, taiwan, cut our supply of supplies off i think america would fall so damn fast you wouldnt know what hit you. The main reason i say this is because you cant look on the label of anything these days and not see that it was made in china or one of those other countries. And if bush continues to do what hes doing then oil will be depleated by the end of his term in office.

Go to the battlefield firmly confident of victory, and you will come home with no wounds whatever. Engage in combat fully determined to die and you will be alive; wish to survive in the battle and you will surely meet death. When you leave the house determined not to see it again you will come home safely; when you have any thought of returning you will not return. You may not be in the wrong to think that the world is always subject to change, but the warrior must not entertain this way of thinking, for his fate is always determined.

I think in ten years time, we'll have the AIDs problem in Africa nearly under control, a cure for cancer will be available, AI will have basic human rights, the Amazon rainforest will be on the rebound as more trees are planted and there will be a lot more energy coming from Nuclear energy. Fusion energy will be under research, protesters will have found something new to moan about (they always do, just so tehy can bunk off work) and two more dictators will have fallen from power, one from natural death and the other assassinated.
The last bit was a bit specific, but the first stuff is liley to happen.

Porn spreads through the internet even faster because there's no such thing as "dial-up" anymore. No more violence in the middle east 'cuz it got nuked (by its own inhabitants or the usa). North Korean govt fails and is assimilated into South Korea. India has largest population . UK and USA conquer France just for kicks, and just leave. China takes over Taiwan. US economy is in shambles and the preferred currency of the world now is the Japanese yen.

I don't CARE about destiny.

I see myself in it, living in a nice house, nice car, and uhhh..... Uhhh............... I dunno...

But I believe that the world will get better... Just because George Bush is president, he might do something such as a miracle, and actually get us out of this hell hole... I mean come on... The future ain't that perdictable... Gotta take stuff the way they come. :P

10 years time...

Well, there will obviously be another World War in the future, at least with the current flow of events, that seems the likely outcome to me.

I do not think it will take place in the next 10 year though, it'll probably take longer than that before the West (Europe and the US mostly) lose the power to fight their wars across the border and have to fight on the homefront as well. Society is becoming more grim, harsher, there will be hate, perhaps not unlike the hate directed towards the Jewish people in the 1930's-1940's.

There might be a fake peace established by Sharon and his insincere attempts at showing goodwill. (After all, taking back 5% of your settlers, and letting the other 95% stay on occupied land is not really a serious gesture.) Even if the Palestinian leader would accept such unequal terms, it would fail to satisfy enough of the (justly) enraged Palestinians to ensure a true and lasting peace, which in turn will serve to continue disrupting stability throughout the rest of the Islamic world.

China will grow further in power, and India will also come out of the shadows. Nuclear weapons will be far more widespread than they were before, the West will probably eventually realize their inability to restrain this and start developing weapons themselves as well. Whether it will come to one of them actually being used is another issue altogether. But one can only hope that if such a thing occurs, there will be no retaliation of similar indiscriminatory destruction. (I doubt any of such things will happen in the next 10 years, though sometimes history prograsses faster than one would expect)

OPEC will gradually see their power lessen as is already becoming apparent with their inability to properly control the oil prices like they used to. If the US dollar slides off too far, countries such as Japan and Chine might decide enough is enough and stop investing massively in these currencies to keep their courses up and just sell them off. That in turn might be a fatal blow to an already weak dollar, if the OPEC countries (which might lose much power, but still control most of the oil) would decide that it is no longer worth selling their oil for dollars and switches to for example Euro's like Iraq did (guess why the US attacked them), the US would be hurled in a deep recession and it might be the beginning of the end for the US as 'the' world's only superpower.

Europe will be unlikely to fill the power void, as they are struggling with a quickly aging population and thus weakening significantly economically.

It might come down to three great powers, the US, Europe and China/Asia. And as we all know, the tripod is one of the least stable political structures.

I dare not say what will happen in Africa and South America. South America will probably eventually grow to a real force to be reckoned with. My best guess for Africa is that when Europe and the US get too busy dealing with their own troubles Africa will be mostly on their own again and might very well continue having wars amongst themselves, AIDS and rape all over destroying their own chances of a better future on the short term. But then again, maybe I am being too grim about that.

It is probably also wise not to forget the possible impact of the advance of technology. In the near future (though not necessarily in 10 years) new things previously undreamt of will become possible. These include intra-solar travel, technology on a nano-scale and advanced genetic engineering. Predicting what exactly these developments will lead to is an uncertain business, but it is sure to lead to many social/ethic conflicts, both on national and international platforms.

As to religion, the US is polarising suddenly becoming quickly more Christian it seems. It is also having an effect on the Islamic world, which egged on by US provocation is also becoming attached more strongly to their faith and religion. Organized religion is a dangerous thing, and it's return to power might not end with just a few small wars such as Iraq and the decennium-long conflict in Israel. Europe appears to be unaffected by such religious themes though they are also polarising on social/political levels, with the fear of international terrorism causing an increase in the tensions between ethnically European inhabitants and immigrants.

Police states will become more easily implemented with the advance of technology, and through the media and propaganda (which have been on the rise recently, not just in Asia and the Middle-East but also in the West) might even become largely accepted by the populace, hence president Bush' patriot act.

Obviously these things are pretty drastic, but I think they are some possible scenarios for the future.

On the other hand, don't lose faith in humanity, people do not wish for 1984 and Brave New World scenarios after all. At least, I hope not. =p

PS.
Please don't take offense at anything said herein, since such was certainly not my intention. I'd be happy to engage in discussion with any who tend to disagree though. =)

I definitely see this world getting a little more screwed up in the future, but maybe someone will come along and save us...we're kinda overdue for a real major leader...we havent really had one this generation. of course, this generation also seems to be a shut up and make it on your type....not so many protests, etc.

actually i wouldn't be suprised if the human race is eradicated within 10 years. humans are weak, pitiful creatures whom have no perception and haven't evolved one bit. perhaps this is a fate we deserve...
