I actually like valentine's day. just because many time, after a long term relationship, guys forget simple thing of the relationship. such as the first day they've met, and I think valentine's day kind of remembers them of those simple things lovers can do for each other.

Unfortunately, I don't have anybody to spend this day with. I wish I couls have a secret admirer that will confess his feeling to me. I think that would be cool, If I would like the guy too.

what is your purpose in life?

I think valentines day is really sweet (despite not having someone myself). I think it's a nice day, that let's significant others show how much they love each other. :D

Valentines day is a wonderful day for people who sell chocolate, they are going to make a killing that day. :D For single people like me, I buy chocolate also to fill the void in my heart or maybe I just like chocolate so damn much. :)

I think of it as just another publicity stunt, a day for companies to make cash on other people's feelings towards their loved ones, a good opportunity to flourish with business on a day where almost every person in love will go out an "buy" gifts for one another.

If this is the day to show love, I mean, don't you show your love to your loved ones everyday? Shouldn't you show love to them everyday? What makes this day special is beyond me, I show my love for my friends, family, and girlfriend everyday. Sure I will buy into the commerial day just because it is so widespread. However, it doesn't change the fact that I think it's totally obsurd :S *hides from girlfriend* x__x

Well, Valentines Day was never big with me, I could care less. I would recieve chocolates from friends but of course they are excepting some back so I get some for them. But if the person I'm dating is big on Valentines Day then I don't mind it I'll get something for her. But even if I was single I never really thought much about it. It's just a fake holiday, in my opinion and doesn't need to be there. I mean let's just do what the Simpsons did and make "Love Day" seriously folks.

Valentine's Day... Hrm... Just another holiday when people like myself are reminded that we are single. There are some bitter memories i had on this date as well as great ones. I think it's sweet though if you're in a relationship whether it be close or not. n_n

What is this fuzzy wuzzy feeling?

I've never noticed valentine's day cuz the girls all the girls always run away when they see me XD I've never really looked forward to it (except for the candy of course XP ), and i've never really noticed it. That is, until the guys at my school started wearing pink on valentine's day.....

good idea but has become overly commercial

too meeh, a singe guy, its just another day. Just be seeing a lot of red colors tho. Even if I had a GF, it would be another day, just spending time wid her and dats all.

I like V. Day only because I get lots of candy from family/friends. o.o But no bf to share it with, so that kinda makes it lame for me.

the day sucks!! It's pointless when you don't have anyone special on that day. I'm a creepy loner who will never find any significance to that day. the day reminds me of painful memories of a shallow, conceited girl I used to like in high school. I knew from that day forward that I was destined to be a loner. so its just like any other day for me. If only Rabi or Lum were real. -_- :( but hey, the next day Xenosaga ep.2 comes out and that will brighten my spirits.

The Last Hurrah

Valentine's Day is a capitalistic bonanza and a commercialistic whore as much as the selfish people that use the day as blackmail against those they supposedly "love" in order to get things that they want in exchange for things like loyalty, conversation, and sex. Like we couldn't find those things elsewhere. Go fish.

Another aspect of Valentine's day that has been distorted is the type of gift that is to be given during Valentine's Day. To quote a description of tha ancient holiday from a sourced webpage, http://www.pictureframes.co.uk/pages/saint_valentine.htm , "The date was marked by sending poems and simple gifts such as flowers. There was often a social gathering or a ball." Now when did the notion come about that this day is all about marketing campaigns to get some rich suckers to buy their women expensive pieces of little shiny gems put in bracelets or other useless knick-knacks so that they can maintain their soloist views of elitism and class?

Crediting the same webpage in the story of St. Valentine, this man was supposedly a priest during Emperor Claudius II's rule in Ancient Rome, who in secret allowed people to marry and profess their love, after Emperor Claudius II cancelled all engagements and marriages because he felt men weren't joining the army because they didn't want to leave their loved ones.

First off, he goes agaisnt the will of his Emperor, secretly does what he thinks is beneficial for society, because we all know everyone knows what's best for them right? (note: sarcasm) And yet, he becomes a martyr revered for his actions? This reminds me of when Massachusetts passed law allowing gay marriage, and then the Mayor of San Francisco felt it in her own authority to allow marriage to Gays and Lesbians in San Francisco, even when it's against California law. Eventually those marriages were mostly annulled anyway, but the point is should we condone these treacherous acts of traitors and give them medals or holidays, remembering them as martyrs?
Secondly, no matter how much you love your loved ones at home, if you're in the army, and you have a duty to your country, there's nothing you'd like more than for the chance to go kick someone else's ass. It's in human nature, otherwise go hide with the rest of the leeches of society (figurative and literal) in murky swamps in the dark and stop suffocating our society by your commericalistic, immoral values. But hey, whatever's good for business right?

So I mean, I like the ancient notion of Valentine's Day, when gifts were simple, the thoughts were sweet, and love was a sacred and physical/spiritual bond that was partnered with loyalty and committment.
But today, when people enter marriage only to say, "Well if it doesn't work out, I can always get a divorce," then I think Valentine's Day cheaply exploits the emotions of the weak in a successful attempt at cashing in on yet another holiday (that we don't even get off from school or work - which questions the term 'holiday').
