Um, Open Office comes to mine. Don't have the link, but an open source, and FREE alternative to MS Office on Windows, Mac, Linux.... Well, Linux obviously doesn't have MS Office or any Microsoft products written for it.
It may have it's own formats, but it can save and read files in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, html, Just to name a few. The only reason to stick with MS Office is because you or your company haven't given it a try or are using the newest features (synchronized files) or like me, have dial up and may not be able to download the whole thing. But perfect alternative for publication of documents.
Worked with it in Linux and it works fine, and should be easy for MS Office users to pick up.

For Image viewers, I recommend ACDSee. Works Significantly faster than Windows me/2000/xp explorer (OS/Windows key - E) viewing thumbnails. And the the images can be scaled, printed without modifying the file.
There is a Mac version but I can only recomend it for the die hard ACDSee fans. Missing a lot of the power in Windows version and has file name character length problems.

kazuki05

Another supernumerary..

I use Avast as my anti-virus.. I like its features such as: scanning files transferred over IM clients like MSN and much much more.

Terragen is a great imaging program if you want to create landscapes and those sorts.

"The stronger someone appears on the outside, the weaker they are in reality."

I use all the programs listed by Espritdumort for protection, here are a few more:

More for the Protection (Spyware/Malware/Virus):
The Kill Box - Excellent tool for deleting stubborn files that cannot be removed.
IE-SPYAD - Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone, so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
A squared - FREE trojan SCANNER
Google Toolbar - Pop-up blocker if you must use IE.
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D and Adaware se - Very important for setting up Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D for maximum effectiveness (both programs were listed by Espritdumort).

I use zonealarm for firewall and av-free for antivirus. I think every computer also must have winace, I think it's better than winzip.

If you have an iRiver H300 series MP3 player, then iRiverter is a must OX .

hmmm... I am currently using iTunes. It's better than Windows Media Player imo. A recent convert & happy user. Reads the various asian fonts with no problem, works with audioscrobbler's plugin too. Doesn't crash (so far) & I certainly don't hope that it does. pc/mac compatible. If you have an ipod, just plug in & it reads immediately. That's why I want one...iTunes Oh yes, it even converts files into mp3 format & doesn't require as much memory space as realplayer.. plus! the design's neat too!

Don't forget to put Kerio Personal Firewall in the protection list. It's great!

Nero is, by now, the best CD burning program for Windows. I've heard great things about K3B for Linux, though I've never gave it a try.

pffft

If you have a POP3 enabled e-mail like gmail, you can use mozilla thunderbird to download and store e-mails and also view RSS feeds. It's a much better alternative to microsoft outlook or outlook express.
Azureus if you use bittorrent is great. It requires Java but you should have that anyway. It's easy to use and able to continue and store torrents. It also gives alot of information on rates, connected user etc.
Trillian is a great all round chatting client. It can connect to IRC, MSN, AIM, ICQ, yahoo all together. Unlike MSN messenger, the view e-mails button can be set to open in firefox or another browser.
VLC media player can play absolutely anything and can use multiple subtitle, audio and video tracks. Very very versatile.
