I am thinking about building my own PC. and I thought about using water cooling system for my CPU. This computer will be a server for my website. Is it worht the money or is it WAY over-rated

i'd go for water cooling if you tend to open ur com 24hours as water absorb the heat faster...
but it is more expensive....

Liquid cooling is the way to go if you want to keep the cpu from over heating. It does cost more but if you are going to need 24 coverage for your website then I say go with liquid cooling.

Watercooling is only worth the price if you have a really overclocked AMD processor. If yours is not overclocked, feel free with a normal fan cooling kit: I can assure you that your processor will just stay warm (except. of course, if it's not a Prescott Pentium 4).

Go for watercooling ;)
Anyway, you must also think of a good case, since the wattercooling requires some more components but it's worth. It's much more silent and effective, and if you'll have a server it'd be the best.

Personally don't have much expirience with watercooling, though, In my next mod (goin to build up my own plexi case ^^) I'm going to use it ^^

Water cooling isn't worth the money. It's something that only benefits you if you overclock. As long as air cooling is adequate, there is no reason to get water cooling.

I would recommend investing the money in something that will make a big difference in performance, like a 10,000 rpm hard drive. In an everyday usage sense it will make your computer seem at least 2X as fast. I should note that it's not actually the rotational speed that is critical, but the seek time. a 4-5ms drive is HUGELY better than a typical 10ms drive.

Water cooling is crap. Even if you just think about the idea. Water inside of a computer is not a good idea. It costs alot and is a pain to setup.
And it certainly shouldn't be used in a server.

I have to agree with Fizzyboy on this one. Water + electronics = recipe for disaster. I'd only recommend it, like others are recommending it, for overclocked machines.. and I'm even beginning to question why bother with overclocking considering the great speed machines have today. >.>;

I'll agree that a water-cooled system does wonders for how cool your system looks, but it's.. not worth the risk imho. I keep my AMD Athlon 64 on 24/7 with a Thermaltake fan turned up halfway on the dial and it runs beautifully -- 31-38 (38 under heavy load) degrees Celcius.

They make motherboards for liqud cooling plus I am hoping to have a custom peace made that shuts down the computer if a leak comes up. But if everyone is aganst it I think I might go with the fan idea.

Haha Dark, you already know my opinions on it, but unless you can really get a good radiator for your water cooling then there isn't going to be a temperature decrease over air.

i keep my CPU cool with a good heatsink and fan while pulling a 600MHz overclock (it is a bit noisey though.

But money spend on good ram or HDD would better spent in my opinion.

I have a watercooled system, and i've had two others in the past, I'd say if you're willing to spend money then go for watercooling. You should be able to mod a cheap case for about $150
i spent about $400 for my current setup, the cooling system itself is quieter than my vid card fan, keeps my cpu around 30 degrees celsius, and looks badass.
Like others have said, you probably don't really need it.
As for the arguments about it being unsafe, as long as you don't do something stupid to your comp, it's safe enough, also they have a new liquid that's not conductive, i don't use it but if your worried about the water then get that liquid
If you go with watercooling i can give enough advice to get you started
