Wondered if anyone used one of these computers. They are chassis, motherboard, PSU and CPU cooler in one shoebox style package :) .

This is the one I'm hopefully getting this Summer:

. . . remember me?

I've built a number of these as test systems at work, and they're not bad, except that I've found that heat can be a very big issue, because ribbons and cables going every which way inside isn't exactly conducive to good air flow, so when you're setting one of these up, make keep this in mind.

On the other hand, if decked out properly, these make excellent LAN party systems because of how easily they can be transported. I know a friend of mine, though a Mac user, uses his Shuttle box for his gaming needs, and it seems to run pretty well most of the time.

To a certain extent I agree, but I know that the ICE cooler is the most efficient CPU cooler I have ever used. Also, with Shuttles, the internal cabling is always tied down around the chassis and so I've never seen the ribbon cables as a problem before.

It evolves the same as a desktop really. Can be more expensive top upgrade, but for LANs, this is unbeatable ;) .

you can change all the hardware (psu, mobo, drives) and theres room for a couple of pci cards, so its actually not too bad when it comes to upgrading one,

Not strictly true. Motherboard CAN be replaced, but it's often cheaper to buy a new Shuttle.

hmmmm the shuttle looks quite slick and sexy and it is a space saver. It'll probably be quite useful for you Aa-chan since ur a uni student and I know that uni residence rooms are usually tiny. Plus you can easily take it home during holidays.

The motherboards are proprietary, which is why it's generally cheaper to get a new Shuttle altogether rather than just the motherboard.

Cumbersome?! o_O

Performance is almost identical to any normal computer. People seem to think that because it's small, it's weak, but it could perform as well as any other machine of similar specs.

Seeking Rakuen

Its cool alright! But i think that if i was ever going to get a desktop over a laptop then i would be doing it for the space (lots of HDs, etc...), in which case something like that would not really be what i want. Plus i don't think the extra price is worth it just for the reduction in size.

Well, it can fit 3 HDDs in there [new models]. How many do you want? :P
As for being worth it, that's a matter of opinion and I personally think it is if you like kawaii computers XD .

Is noise an issue? These days everyone is concerned about portability, heat, and noise. I think the shuttle uses a proprietary heat pipe to get heat off the cpu am I correct?

It used to be, but quieter CPU fans and PSUs have made a huge difference. I've always fond them to be quieter than any other computer I've owned.

Quote by YingWhoa! It's so small you could cary it around!........but that's what you have laptops to right!

Well, of course a laptop is more portable, but not as powerful for the same money. Plus, Shuttles are still aimed for the desktop market.
