These 4 animes, are, IMO some of the most significant animes about mechas and science fiction.
If you had to be objektive and choose ONE, may be not the one that you like the most, but the most important,
"big" or "memorable" in the history of anime, which one, out of these four would be?
PS: My first thread, I hope it's fine... I checked and I dind't find something about this...
I think Gundam is the most important mecha anime because it changed the genre forever. Afterwards I would say Evangelion because its IMO the best anime out there.
I was not sure... Macross or Gundam? I went for Gundam...
More than 20 years after the orignial series, people still likes it.
It's a classic, but at the same time, it's still "alive".
And like Diabound00 said, it changed the genre forever. Besides being an excellent mecha anime, it's also one of the
best animes about war.
Gundam for sure, it always has and always will be my favorite anime :)
Well, it depends on which side of the mech genre you`re talking about. Gundam was the first to portray the mech as just another machine of war, something for good or evil dependent on the pilot, and with limitations.
Evangelion moved the mech into a different realm, something breathing and alive and with far more purpose behind it than the simple human pilot knew.
And Mazinger...it was kind of the daddy of the current ones, aint it? I know Gigantor was around, but Mazinger was, to my knowledge, the first one piloted by a person instead of automated or remote controlled. Not to mention its a classic Giant Robot anime, a big heroic asskicking robot!
So I have to go with gundam, but those three series each have their own landmarks made. Id comment on Macross, but Ive only seen Robotech and I know thats not the real macross ;)

I would have to say the Gundam series. The Evangelion one is okay. I haven't seen the others, so I don't about those. I agree with Teryon.

i chose gundam becuse its got the most spin offs and the like

Gundam mainly because it changed the mecha genre. Sure, Mazinger and others made the mecha genre, but Gundam created the "Real Robots" genre that pwns so much.

Gundam always, Mazinger may have given rise to the begining of Giant Robots, but Gundam made them seem real, and possible something that you could actually get in and pilot. Check this site out for a soon to be working MECH!

Gundam. It is one of the best animes out there. To have spawned so many stories that are still popular today: W, 0080th MS team, X, SEED and now SEED destiny to name a few. Gundam is the defining poitn of the mecha genre.
Gundam for sure, one of my favorite anime, though i like eva too bec of misato but heck, i like the mechs of gundam than eva :x

Gundam definately because the series have explored so many possibilities there are to the mecha genre.
