Well, here's a list of things I need in my life:
my own pc (I loathe the library now ~_~ )
lots o art supplies
a job (most definitely)
lots o manga
lot o anime dvds
someone to love
for my life to be ok like it use to be
a hope
and a pray
I think that's it for now (I'll probably come back and elaborate some)

i was going to say my t.v. (watching my t.v. is my favorite past time XD )
but then you meant "needs,"
so i need all the obvious stuff like food, water, shelter, and clothing.
but i also need my luved ones (friends and family), my hopes and dreams, and feeling like that i can help others. for
me those things would fulfill my needs.
Don't worry about tomorrow, don't think about
yesterday,
don't live in the future, just make it through today!

Well your tv could be just one thing that makes your day complete. I know some people who watch tv every evening to sum the day up. Just something people feel makes their day complete, and if it makes them happy, then it must be ok. Some people have their opinions on what exactly falls under "wasting your life away" but its the small things that make the difference for some people.
