Both my DVD and CD-RW drives are having this autoplay problem just recently. Whenever I put in a disc (I mean ANY disc; VCD, DVD, Audio CD...), the prompt window just won't appear. Heck, there's even no 'play' function or 'autorun' when I right-clicked on it. But the drives can read the disc just fine though. I checked out both of the drive's properties and I saw no problem in it.
Oh yeah, I'm using xp SP2 if that helps.
If any of you guys know what caused it, do tell me. Thanx.
Oh. did you try restarting your computer? Let's go step by step.
right click cd drive then click autoplay.
tick "action to perform"
shouldn't that enable the autoplay?
to make it permanent u should switch as system admin on the xp, i think.

Uh guys, those are not working. I already tried em both before I posted this thread.
Hmmm.... try this on reverse
Click Start
Click Run
Enter gpedit.msc
Group Policy mmc will popup. On left panel:
Double-click Computer Configuration to open submenu
Double-click Administrative Templates to open submenu
Double-click System to open submenu
Double-click Turn autoplay off option which will be near the bottom of the list in the right panel.

i had the same problem back then ^_^.
However i was trying to swicth the autoplay off >.< not on ^_^
Fos some of the programs i'm using, since autoplay can sometimes interfere with other programs ^_^.
