I've noticed, at every single anime forum I go to, this happens. Someone could ask for the best anime, the funniest, the saddest, whatever, they always get the same answers. It's either a) Naruto, or b) FMA.

Somehow Naruto is the funniest and the saddest at the same time, according to most forums.

Wtf?

Are these the only two anime that exist? Have fanboys and girls taken over to the point that any manga/anime other than mainstream anime is just not good? Anytime I make a comment about a manga that I read, it's overshadowed by someone who just read Naruto. No one's even interested in finding new series.

Am I the only one that's noticing this? Is there no want for new series? Does marketing really effect us that much that we don't even care about unmarketed anime/manga? The best stuff I've read or seen is fan-subbed/scanlations, but people don't even care about that. They go straight for the new TokyoPop translation or ADV dub.

But anyway, back to the question, am I the only one that notices this? Are anime fans just content with two or three titles and nothing else?

Don't forget about Gundam Seed by far the most popular mecha series currently. I agree that those series get alot of attention. I personally don't care for either as they seem just okay. I am a fan of the older stuff, mostly pre CG.

I know. It seems all the popular series that everyone loves and becomes obsessed over, having an orgasm every time a new episode is released... I hate them. I think they're horrible. Inuyasha, I thought was ok, then the fangirls got ahold of it and it was ruined, and I still can't stand watching it to this day.

Inuyasha just seems to reek of newbie series. I really got into it at first like with DBZ but I soon realized its in the same category of mindless fighting anime. It isn't interesting after a while and just seems to drag on for too long. Damnit Naraku is worse than Frieza in that he will never die!

No, I have noticed that, and haven't saw those 2 shows (Naruto and fma), and have them but maybe too lazy to watch them. I like new shows, like Speed Grapher, or Dokuro-chan. Sometimes is annoying when people ask if you like anime and only know those shows or only the popular ones. And don't diversify what they see. :hmpf:

it's no secret that naruto and FMA are VERY popular series... so naturally they'd have a large fanbase. and naturally those fans would list those anime series as their favorites. that doesn't necessarily mean that they've only watched 2-3 series. one reason for a lack in popular fan-subbed/scanlated being listed as favorites is access. there are a lot of young anime fans who don't have access to downloading fansubs or scanlations. for me, if it weren't for my cousin, there'd be a lot of series that i wouldn't have watched because it would take too long to download. yes, it's somewhat annoying to see Naruto and Gundam Seed everywhere, but i just take it as a fact . i mean, what can you do? people have different tastes.

I guess i'm waiting for something new. just something different from your normal plot and idea. I like some ainmes/mangs and still have to watch the end of some series, but i erally want something unique.
I am "attempting" to write a manga and i've got a stroyline for it.... but i don't think it's going anywhere atm. and i bet if i ever did do it, no-one would ever tune into it.

Keep it up writing a good long story is really rewarding. My friend and I take turns and we each write a chapter, keeps it fresh and going.

Hahah. Heck no. To be honest, I've never read Naruto. I glanced at it, but never really read it. As for FMA, watched it a few times, but same thing, never really quite got into it. One of my favorite series (Blade of the Immortal) is totally dismissed in conversations I have with my friend. She says she's never heard of it. Yet, when I told her about another series (Paradise Kiss) she said she dismissed it because of the artwork, but lo and behold, when I got her to read it, the series became a fav. ^_^ Go figure, eh?

Anywho, I guess I can see where you're coming from, but at the same time, that's just what sells right now. It is unfortunate that a lot of people wont explore other series in all types of fields (not just anime).

Ah well, ^_~

Well...

Naruto IS both sad and funny. That's what's nice about the series, it can touch you on different levels of emotion. As for me, I love Naruto. It's not my favorite series but the manga is really good. I understand why it's so popular - once it reached a group of people, they recommend it to their friends and then so on.... eventually even people who don't really delve into the anime world watch only maintsream anime and thus, get caught in the web.

It's a shame that series such as Naruto and SEED get so hyped up - they end up getting 'overrated' reviews. Rather than if they weren't so hyped up, people who don't like the series might have actually given them a break and might have thought 'hey, this ain't so bad'.

shadowplaygirleko, I've been thinking about that too. Besides Naruto isn't any special. Just like Pokémon and Dragonball it's WAY overrated and people will hopefully realize this in time as they did with those shows. The only thing special about Naruto is that it's even more boring than DB and even uglier!! O_O; And the character design is so unoriginal and boring, so are the characters and the painfully boring storyline. That's my opinion anyways. ^^

God is just something mankind made up so they could blame everything that they couldn't explain on something.

I completely agree <_< It seems like all the animes I think are retarded are the ones that get popular.

I agree. I can't stand most of the popular animes because they're popular, because I'm just sick of hearing about them. They might be good, but I'm so sick of them I avoid them at all costs.
