I'm a bibliophile, and I've been reading books for as long as i can remember. i love many books, and i try to live by the lessons that they impart.

The novels that have a great impact on me are: The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint -Exupery and Doctors by Erich Segal. Doctors has inspired me to take up a paramedical course. The Little Prince shows life's lessons simply.

What book(s) inspire(s) you to be who you are/want to be?

You're never fully dressed without a smile! ;)

I haven't read many classical books; my favorite types are fantasy books with magic, mystery and anything that has to do with 'Medieval times', you could say.
The books I like are by David Eddings', 'The Belgariad', and 'The Mallorean' (series). Why? I don't really have a reson to tell you the truth. I just love the way it's portrayed, and he inspires me to write (my ambition is writing fan fics, my story, whatever; I love writing!). The other books which inspire me to write are by Raymond E. Feist 'The Riftwar Saga' (series), and 'The Lord Of The Rings' by j.r.r. Tolkien
... I am getting so off the topic, just stating my favorite books ^___^;;;
i love the Harry Potter books, too, because they show the struggles of a boy against something practically unbeatable; pure evil. Evil is everywhere in life and it's up to each and every individual to find a way to beat his own horrors and fears.
Now isn't that a reason to inspire you to read Harry Potter?
And I try to learn the lessons that books try to pass on. In the Lord of the Rings, Tolkien was trying to passs the message that we're destroying our earth (Saruman defying nature and creating Uruk-hai) and that new discoveries and findings which make technology greater, aren't always for the best.
OK, I tend to blab a lot...

"The Giver" by Lois Lowry is the first book that comes to mind in the aspect of inspiration.
It's about a world, where in the future, people have been genetically engineered to become more complacent, everything is perfectly controlled and no one knows about Earth's history except one person called "The Receiver" and it's time for a new Receiver...

Inspired no... Enjoy yes. I love to read, but I'm not impressed by most works. My favorite author is Patricia McKillip. Her stories have depth and she somehow manages to suprise me with her twists and turns. I also enjoy Kate Forsyth and Lynn Flewelling.

*I'm not stuck on female writers. I just happen to like these authors the most right now.

If you would challenge me, then you must first stand before the Darkness. You must look into it and become it. You must fall before it and then reach out to encompass it. When it is joined to your heart, you must overcome its insidious temptation. You are ready to face me when you can betray even your own heart in service to your cause.

oh man... books...
well, i guess you can say reading books inspired me to strive to become an author and write stories of my own...
there's a few series of books that have just stayed with me through the years, and kind of formed the basis for my childhood... y'know, pretending to have dragons or be certain characters, that kinda thing. i would definitely not be the same without those books. yesterday... i was at the library and i decided to check out the very last Animorph book, which was a series i was obsessed with in like... fourth grade... my friend and i used to pretend that we were Animorphs at recess....(there are 54 books, it's crazy; i made it to like.. book 30). and so, i read it... and man. i still remember all the characters and it's been years... it made me want to cry, the ending. but, stories are immortal; they will never die! ha!

agh! i tried reading a book by cherryh (the paladin), but when it got to the part about when Shoka tries to get Taizu to sleep with him... agh. i couldn't take anymore. and then he makes her promise to marry him if she survives the revenge attempt... no. Taizu's too cool for that.
books really do leave something in you...

No, you don't tend to blab a lot, and you really didn't drift away from the topic. ^_^

Tolkien's a genius, what can I say? He managed to create languages for his "own world" and managed to relate that world to the people. His message was very clear and easy for us to see, it's just a matter of whether we notice that message or not. (Although his language may be a bit archaic for most of our generation...)

Many are inspired by Harry because he is normal... in the sense that he has his own share of pain and sorrow. Despite his powers, he still manages to be human for everyone to relate with...

"Conceived Without Sin" by Bud McFarlane...as to faith. ^^ Not even Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons" and "DaVinci Code" can compare (for me...). Both his books are excellent, but not as influential.
And, of course, as always, anything Dickens. Sorry, I'm partly biased. ^^ I just LOVE his works! Though he works more in the social sphere for me. Edward Bellamy's "Looking Backward" and Thomas Hardy's "Jude the Obscure" are also strong social commentaries, though, again, not as influential as Dickens. ^^
Potter...more for fun and leisure than anything else. ^^ Really, I don't even take the books nor the movies seriously for some odd reason. I don't hate it, but...eh.
Tolkien...indifferent. Really. Dunno why...maybe I'm just lazy. I had more fun watching the movies than trying to read the book (I tried only the first...then totally lost any interest). ^^

But y'know what, yakushi? Even more influential are the books by Snell, Pansky, Guyton, Hecox, Kisner, and the others you're bound to encounter. (Especially Snell...OMG, you'll really learn to love that book, even though it'll take literally a year to finish) ^^ Hahaha... ^^

Inspired: The Art of War - The theories of warfare translated to interpersonal relations well in my mind.

Who I'd want to be: That's a hard one with all the book's I've read. It's a toss up between Slippery Jim Degriz from the Harry Harrison Stainless Steel Rat series and Roger McClintok from John Ringo & Dave Weber's Empire of Man series. I highly recommend both series.

For me it would probably be most anything written by Hemmingway. Oh and a lovely book called The Peter Principle, I can't remember the author's name at the moment but it is definately worth reading. It is a study of how we work our way up in the ranks of our work place and where we eventually get stuck. I loved reading that book so much the minute I picked it up I was gone, nobody could talk to me for the next hour. It's not a long book but taking a little time to read it is just what my day needs sometimes, I've read so many times by now it's a wonder I don't have it memorized. I have a wierd taste in literature. XD

Wow... the highest level that a book attained (in my standards) should come as a Segal or a Gabriel Garcia Marquez, or Mario Puzo's The Godfather.
