ok i dunno 'bout you people but my parents have parental controls on for me... i was fine with it before cause my
mom was the one who was taking care of it.... now i hate it because my dad has taken control over it and i can no longer
go to most places on mt amonst other things.....and most normal sites that i used to go to that were never a problem
before i'm not allowed to go to any more!!!whatchyou think about it?

Yeah I used to just go onto my dad's screenanem and change it to a higher level. Then when I was done surfing the internet I just went and changed it back. That and I pleaded with my mom to get me a higher setting. :)

Just how knowledgeable is your dad? There are a ton of ways of getting around something like that. It would be kind of funny if you re-installed the software with your own admin code for example. Or you could just bring him into the room and have him switch it back temporarily so you can show him where you want to go and see if he'll leave it that way. Of course, the best thing would just be to get his log in code; so, you can do whatever you want as spystreak suggested.

I can see parental controls being ok for younger kids, so they don't accidentally end up on stuff, but I'd say you're old enough to be responsible about.
Unless you're a psyco looking up explosive manuals (not saying you are ~_^) the worst thing they have to worry about is porn, and that's quite a natural thing! ~_^

so you say there is a code to open the computer?....you should just change the code next time you find out...or make a new account ...well for me..my dad dosent even dare to do somthing like that..he knows if he whould that the gate to hell whould be in his home....lol when my dad whant to go on my computer he normally asked me be4 XD ... but i made a account so he can go on to look at stuff he needs..well for you...why do they even do it?...i say this..i think they should shame them self for doing somthing like that(well if you did somthing bad be4 then its maybe ok)...but not trusting his own daughter...lol who can he then trust?

my parents are just over protective and dont trust me......... they dont even let me hang out with my friends unless its at my house (except for at tims and ambers) and i havent done anything to betray the little trust they bestow upon me...cause i would like to keep some what of a life....

the biggest mistake parents can do is trying to have control over there child when its in the puberty.....and my parents are trying that(well my dad is) when i say to him im gonna freak out of the house when i can he dosent belive me..he says im gonan live in the house until i marry...god dammit....and he says to me if i leav liek that then he cant trust me and bla bla as if i care...im outta the house when i get the chance cuz i dont like the rules that are in the house

From my past experience, parents do a lot of things that they believe is in the best interest of their child...sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong. In this case, I don't see the point of parental control. Should the child want to, there are thousands of ways around it...boot up the PC in safe mode, guess what it automatically gives you all admin access to the computer, so removing the blocker or disabling it is easy.
The advice I would give though, don't go around it...go through it. Meaning, talk to your parents, go up to your dad and say, "Dad, I know you & mom are trying to keep me from bad stuff on the internet. But you are also keeping me from stuff that isn't bad, can you and I go online and let me show you the sites I frequent. If you have no problems with them, may you bump the access level back up to where mom had it so that I may continue to frequent those pages?" You have to treat them with respect and talk as an equal...meaning to whine or pout and anything, just say that and if they say no, just say ok and walk away. You probably won't get the access the first time...but a week later try it again...continue to just walk away and not pout or anything if he says no...this is the MOST important part. It shows that you've matured and are not acting like a little kid. It will probably take several tries, but eventually they will see how you act and take that as you are mature enough to handle a higher setting on the internet.
When playing the parent games....play by the rules and exploit them...works. I use to do it to my parents all the time...patience and control are the keys.

thanx! i'll attempt to talk to my parents about it again.... it probably wont do any good but i'll try!....but i suppose the main reason they wont let me have it with out parental controls is because they think i'm going to sites that i shouldnt and its getting us some major viruses..... but my dad is on from 11-12 ish till about 3 -3:30 in the morning and looking at who knows what! but he blames it on the three sites i go to (quizilla, msn, and here)

quizilla isnt a bad site, and I would be suprized if they were giving you a virus
msn is a corporate site owned by microsoft, so if they are giving you viruses, they should have been sued by now.
And I visit Minitokyo all the time, and I know that you'd virutally never get a virus from here.
Ask any other (non-n00b) member (or admin) on this site, and they would give you similar response.On the other hand, if your dad is up at 3am, looking at stuff he doesnt even tell you, how can you know its not him? I'm not trying to attack him or anything, but its just something you cant not think about.
besides, if you guys have all your anti-virus and anti-adware/spyware definitions up to date, and scan for viruses and adware at least once a week, you should be able to keep your computer pretty much clean of that nasty stuff.
I'd have to agree with everyone else here, that talking to your parents should be the first thing to do. If that doesnt work, and you are really willing to take the risk of getting caught, you could try a http proxy, it might possibly slow down the internet somewhat.
