Its true XD From all the anime shows i saw and manga i've read, all the women are either cute, sexy, beautiful, etc. Sometimes anime can be so unrealistic.

Its pretty obvious why, no one wants to see them. (They might also be harder to draw? I dont know).

Actually, isnt the Knights member in Serial Experiments Lain that has a messy apartment fat? Thats the only one I can remember.

thats the best point....anime(not pokemon and stuff) well anime is mostly based on young beautyfull girls..and if none girls are in it then its a fighting genere..like naruto...there rewally arent any beatyfull girls in it(not fat)..and the plot/gener is fighting...i mean how maney people like hot girls fighting liek violent people..i bet none...so in a drama or somthing like that anime there whould be good looking ones....FAT anime girls are not populair lol

It is time for you to drown

Hey, I mean come on, what do you think sells better?
It's a market out there!
The main characters will always look attractive.
Cruel you may say. But what are we gonna do about it? Boycott?
Never! lol

They should make an anime where the character is overweight..it aint done before, and it wouldn't put me off as long as it had a good storyline..

Yes, people who are more overweight are harder to draw than those who are thin. You need to take into consideration the way that clothing falls upon the extra bits of skin, as well as the actual construction of correct the fat rolls, etc.

Also, not many people have a fetish for them. Women are mostly designed for fan service as well.

lolz thats true... artists don't draw decent looking characters, then no one will be interested in it. Some people judge anime by the how artistic the characters look.
Sadly, many judge anime/manga by its cover >_<

There's that one fat girl in Negima. She's on the lunchroom patrol or something. (She's in one of the OP single scans in the gallery, too.)

And there's whatshername from Tenjou Tenge, though she's good at hiding it.

Although yeah, there's a lot of non-realism going on, I always go the impression from reading other sources that Japanese women in real life are not often overwieght. Of course that may have changed in recent years.

As for fat girls in anime, the only ones I can remember off the top of my head is one of Usagi's friends from waaaaaay early in the first season of Sailor Moon who was a little chubby, and a fat lady from the very first episode who was basically a redshirt.

I think there are others, but very rarely do you see an important character, male or female, who is fat. Kinda stinks...

Always remember that everyone is the hero of their own story.

Guys wouldn't watch it then. -_- in all the anime I've watched there has been only two fat anime women. One in Cowboy Bebop and one in Pokemon. Every other one I've seen they have the ideal female look at least what guys think. I don't think that way and I'm a guy. I don't care waht they look like as long as I like the anime. And why do alot of them have big boobs. I mean what the heck.

That pretty much explains why they dont make them fat.

I've always been wondering that myself...to me, it's all fanservice pretty much. Sexy babes with big boobs are appealing, but aye, even us guys have our limits and I have seen a few fat women in very few animes, especially in Paranoia Agent. The only reason most artist don't anticipate on drawing overweight women is cause it's not fanservice, but I've never really paid attention to that...I usually watch anime for how much action it has.

i htink that anime women are not fat cus they would not seem so cute and appeal as much to the qudience if they were fat to be honest^^

Also there would be great anime's if the feamle characters were fat now lol

hiya guys i play giuld wars and stuff and watch anime to death ^^

If the animegirls are fat than an anime wouldn´t be an anime. Anime girls have to be cute and sexy otherwise the old tradition of the anime is no longer impoprtant. Sexy animegirls are a must for every anime or manga!! N´est pas?

if ever is a fat lady character.. they are usually the oba-sans... *sweats*

or on the other hand, they are sending us subconscious message.. want to read anime, watch your diet and be as pretty as the female characters in it!

How many people do u think would anime of fat girls? Granted its unrealistic and doesn't help with stereotypes, but its just an attempt to appeal to an audience and marketing.

Here's the thing, obesity may be a common problem in America but that's not neccisarily true for other parts of the world. There just aren't that many fat people in Japan. Or the rest of Asia. Or Europe. Or Africa. Or South America. In no way am I suggesting that there are no fat people in these places at all. I'm sure there are plenty but they certainly aren't as commonplace compared to America. We're one of the fattest countries in the world. Blame the Americans' love of greasy foods if you must, but it's the unfortunate truth.
