I own one right now. It hosts a bit of my art and also some nifty wallpapers. It's named Ring-A-Ding-Ding, and it has a terrible pop-up ad problem. ;__;

i do have a free one but it sucks, cause i cannot upload vidoe, so it causes a lot of trouble. Currently i'm working on a new site which i will pay for and have all my new stuff up so when i do get it uploaded i will post it up

I think it may be your host. One of the first hosts I ever tried had a popup like that on every page -_- so I did my hw and changed it to a good one. I looked here: http://free-webhosts.com for my host. It's the most frequently updated and top search engine for freehosts.

That depends on the host and the service you choose to buy.

The average cost is around $20 per year for the domain name, and for an average host maybe about $10/mo but I use one that has only a one-time payment of $3 for the lowest account, and $16 for the best account. It's at http://freepgs.com if you're interested.

For my website:
Cost of hardware for my server so far: ~$120.
Cost of domain: $0 (free from dyndns.com)
Cost of electricty: $0, for now (hopefully the server doesnt use up too much power, and parents dont start asking me to pay part of the bill)

you could just apply for hosting at a site that already has a domain
or get randomly discovered and invited to be hosted; that's what happened to me.

no, pieces of hardware is a one time cost (as in, I dont pay $120 a year, but if I want to upgrade the server, then I have to pay some more).

What I've spent money on hardware for so far:
* PCI Wireless LAN adapter ($75)
* Ethernet Cables ($15)
* 2 ISA Ethernet adapters ($20)

i think I'm going to have to get another power supply for it too, the current one is so noisy that I couldnt sleep if the server was in my room (where it'll be soon).
