I remember when I first saw Endless Waltz, I was amazed, it looked amazing! They had managed to put a whole new face to Gundam Wing. However, after the psycho-fangirl-ish-ness wore off and I thought, really thought hard about it, my adoration for Endless Waltz began to waver... even to the point that I detested its existence! But now, now I'm just lost.
Endless Waltz did several things that can be considered as either good or bad (or even neither or both):
[1] Gave a definite end to the After Colony timeline, established in the statement that "Mobile Suites including the Gundams were never seen again."
[2] Gave an identity to the pilots and other significant characters. Sounds confusing, I know... but allow me to explain. Gundam Wing ended with us not knowing what happened to anyone, they were given a fresh slate in life and their future was theirs to live in whatever way they wanted. I personally liked the mystery... so many questions and such to wonder on one's own: Is Zechs alive? What will happen to everyone now that they don't have a war to fight? And what of Heero and Relena? The series ended very nicely, I thought, with Relena ripping apart the card Heero gave her - it brought viewers back to the first episode where he tore her invitation. -tear- With the presence of Endless Waltz, even though a certain air of mystery still remains, it's not as open to the imagination anymore.
Okay, enough nostalgia... tell me what you thought of Endless Waltz, and if you think that it would have been better off not being produced.
