I remember when I first saw Endless Waltz, I was amazed, it looked amazing! They had managed to put a whole new face to Gundam Wing. However, after the psycho-fangirl-ish-ness wore off and I thought, really thought hard about it, my adoration for Endless Waltz began to waver... even to the point that I detested its existence! But now, now I'm just lost.

Endless Waltz did several things that can be considered as either good or bad (or even neither or both):

[1] Gave a definite end to the After Colony timeline, established in the statement that "Mobile Suites including the Gundams were never seen again."

[2] Gave an identity to the pilots and other significant characters. Sounds confusing, I know... but allow me to explain. Gundam Wing ended with us not knowing what happened to anyone, they were given a fresh slate in life and their future was theirs to live in whatever way they wanted. I personally liked the mystery... so many questions and such to wonder on one's own: Is Zechs alive? What will happen to everyone now that they don't have a war to fight? And what of Heero and Relena? The series ended very nicely, I thought, with Relena ripping apart the card Heero gave her - it brought viewers back to the first episode where he tore her invitation. -tear- With the presence of Endless Waltz, even though a certain air of mystery still remains, it's not as open to the imagination anymore.

Okay, enough nostalgia... tell me what you thought of Endless Waltz, and if you think that it would have been better off not being produced.

Gundam Wing had several episodes deleted due to low budget. Those episodes were about the start of Operation Meteor: about how the pilots came into contact came with the professors and the gundams. Also things like Nataku, the Maguanaqs and the teddybear were explained in those episodes. Later there was a manga made: "episode zero" , wich contained the story of those lost episodes.
Parts of those episodes also make part of Endless Waltz, just to tie up the loose plot strings.

If you are a Gundam Wing fan, and you want to know more you have to read this manga.
Episode Zero can be found here:

http://www.stormpages.com/zero/translate/index.html

Sadly it is not complete, I made a complete translation, but I doubt if it can still be found on the web.

Oh, but of course I've read it ^^ But since you've brought up the mangas... I've always been a tad bit uncertain of the story's continuity. Let's see, there's Episode Zero (manga), Gundam Wing (manga and series), G-Unit (manga), Ground Zero (manga), Blind Target (manga), Battlefield of the Pacifist (manga), Endless Waltz (manga and ova/ movie), and Preventer 5 (manga)... now, which happened when (mostly referring to Ground Zero, Blind Target, and Battlefield of the Pacifist)?

You know, your not the second person I've heard to have done that... and I"m really just curious, how does that work? Endless Waltz was a compliment to the series, not the other way around. Weren't you confused?

I believe it was like this:

Episode Zero
Gundam Wing

Ground Zero, Battlefield of the Pacifist, Blind Target (those are three manga that happen at the same time, they have nothing to do with each other.)

Endless Waltz

Okay... but heres the thing, the Battlefield of the Pacifist manga fits in perfectly with the manga for Gundam Wing and the manga for Endless Waltz (since they'd all been done by the same person). Would that give it more legitimacy than the other two, you think? I mean... are they all "official"??

Hm... I think that you missed out. Endless Waltz, in many ways, doesn't have the same "feel" as the series... one reason why I somewhat dislike it.

What of Wufei's attitude don't you get? I could explain it if you'd be more specific.

Actually I kinda didn't like the story line of the girl being trez' daughter and all but I loved the fact the return of Zack Marquis and the Tallgeese, that is my fav gundam in gundam wing, also the customized wing zero is also very nice. Anyways I was more amazed with the mech than the storyline itself.

Cancel

I enjoyed the movie as well, but those custom gundams were too much for me, I would have preferred the old ones.

By the way, don't you think "ground zero" is somewhat misplaced? I mean it is not like Gundam Wing at all.

About the manga, I believe that Battlefield of the Pacifist is indeed the "true" story between GW and EW.
Ground zero wasn't even official I thought.

AAH! I'm glad you brought it up! I was waiting for someone to do so! See, I have a theory... Mariemaia isn't really Treize's daughter! Frankly, we don't have any solid proof but here's what I got...:

Endless Waltz and Episode Zero (for those who've read it) tell us: Mariemaia Barton- Khushrenada of the Barton Foundation is the daughter of Treize Khushrenada -- if you’d all excuse my continuous repetition of surnames.

You know, I have come to accept the above statement as fact for a long while without questioning it. Why would I? My thoughts have been inspired by the Endless Waltz Manga, wherein Dekim clearly states that he'd picked her up from the streets and could just easily find another one. Of course, my argument is not solely based on this little eye-opener.

Three of the Gundam pilots sent to Earth from the Colonies in Operation Meteor were not using their birth name (should they have had one in the first place): Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, and Trowa Barton. Taking these three as an example of the situation in the Colonies, it is safe to assume that here had been many torn families, deaths, separation, etc. Could this little redheaded girl not be among one of these unfortunate?

Let us not forget that she poses no resemblance to either Treize or Leia… or anyone else for that matter. The picture of her and her mother, you ask? Leia was a nurse (if I recall correctly) in the Colonies, it wouldn't be off for her to be holding a child in her arms… a parentless one at that -- only to adopt or care for the child enough for her family to consider the child a Barton.

Let’s face it -- it's not an entirely ridiculous idea that the Mariemaia we know, is not the birth daughter of Leia Barton and Treize Khushrenada (if he even had one in the first place).

There is proof I think, look at this:

On this page is said:

Hey Noname!
I've got something to show you, for your eyes only. She's Mary-Maia, my older sister's daughter

We thought she'd died with my sister back on X18999, but we found her. When we've taken over the earth, she'll be the ruler.

Yes, yes, I know that... but it was Leia carrying Mariemaia in the picture. That might be proof enough that she is at least Leia's daughter, but not Treize's. Treize, alive or dead, is a very significant individual - there are a lot of people that would do what they can to take advantage... even claiming that this little girl is his daughter... one that no one knew of... kinda suspicious if you ask me.

I don't think she is Treize's daughter, at least in GW we never saw anything that gave way her existance. There was also no need to lie to Trowa when he was informed about Mary-Meia. A logic explanation could be that she was adopted by Leia, that makes her her daughter and an orphan who can easily be picked up from the streets like Dekim said.

and how the changed the gundams to an even cooler fourm, Wing Zero actually having wings, Heavy Arms with like 10x more weapons, deathscythe with more a a grim reaper looks, sandrock with even bigger blades, altron with even bigger dragon heads, tallgeese with some epyon add ons

Actually, not that many people died... on screen that is, with the exception of Dekim. Though, I thought that shooting a little seven year old girl was a bit shocking. Anyway, you say that there so much action... but...

... so, which is it? I personally thought that there was a perfect balance of action and talk - aka: story and plot.

I like this Endless Waltz as a story, but the whole "Custom" Gundams deal still doesn't sit right with me. I don't know why they decided to change them (except to make more money on models) with no explaination, and then show those exact models in the final moments of teh original series... just confusing.

I did enjoy it though.

I am very loyal to the Gundam Wing series but when it comes to Endless Waltz, I feel it could've been better.

I like the way they laid out EW's story. The entire thing was great storywise. The only thing I don't like are the Custom Gundams.

The Custom suits might be very cool and sweet, but it was unnecessary. It contradicted the whole "no killing" philosophy of EW by beefing up the Gundams and making them more powerful killing machines.

But overlooking those, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is still great. One of the best in Gundam history.
